Chapter 127 Catherine Once Saved Alexander

Chapter 127 Catherine Once Saved Alexander

When they first met, Catherine did indeed mistakenly think he was just a kid from a poor family who had to make a living as a hitman and driver to support himself.

Back then, she even comforted him not to envy wealthy families, saying they weren't all that great. Little did she know he was the head of the top-tier Howard Group, wealthy enough to buy several dark web networks, yet he was working as a hitman on the dark web. It was truly bizarre.

Not to mention he also diligently drove her to and from work without complaint.

Thinking about it now, it was actually pretty funny!

Alexander pulled Catherine all the way up to the top floor of the mall. Annie stood at the entrance of the shooting range, smiling as she held a velvet box. "Catherine, you look beautiful today. Alexander actually looks like a normal person for once."

She'd be crazy to praise Alexander in front of Catherine. Besides, no boss ever looked good at work - they were all just capitalists!

But Catherine was different. Catherine was gentle and elegant, intelligent and composed - simply the most beautiful princess in the world!

"Annie, I remember you went out with George?"

"George assigned me to follow Esme. When she returned to Lila's side, I came back to work."

Annie thought to herself that tailing Esme looked easy, but only those who did it knew how difficult it really was.

Esme had basically done nothing these past few days except lie around in hotels and hang out at nightclubs. When she left the hotel for the nightclub, Annie snuck into her room to swap out the Vitality Pills she'd bought - there was barely any room to step.

Remembering that room, Annie wanted to cry.

After all these years in this line of work, it was her first time encountering a situation where she had to search for things in what was basically a garbage dump.

"I've already sent the Vitality Pills to your lab. This is the gift Mr. Howard prepared for you."

Annie opened the box in her hands. A pair of exquisite couple's watches lay quietly inside, wrapped in luxurious velvet, every diamond sparkling.

Inside the watch face, an inconspicuous string of numbers was engraved.

Catherine recognized it - it was a date.

"What does this mean?"

Alexander picked up the watch and put it on Catherine. "The day I first saw you. You've probably forgotten, but it's very important to me."

"Wasn't our first meeting at Bright Heal Hospital?"

Of course not.

It was much earlier, in Northern Myanterra, when his life hung by a thread and he was about to join his mother in hell. A pair of soft yet firm hands grasped his and pulled him out of the abyss!

"No. This day is the one."

"I remember I should have been in Northern Myanterra at that time."

Alexander held her hand and wrapped his arms around Catherine's waist from behind, raising the watch he'd just put on her and aiming it at the distant shooting target.

His breathing fell right by her ear, so close that Catherine could even hear Alexander's heartbeat!

"Yes, in Northern Myanterra. That day, you were just like this." Alexander held Catherine's hand and pressed a hidden switch on the watch. A sharp wrist arrow shot out from the watch face, hitting the bullseye!

"Just like this, you killed the enemy blocking my path and saved me. If I had known then that you were my fiancée, I would never have let you go."

Alexander's voice carried a faint huskiness. His long lashes brushed past Catherine's ear as his breath and his kiss fell on her cheek together, stirring up ripples.

Catherine's face instantly turned red as if burned, and inexplicable emotions surged in her heart.

"I don't remember."

"It was so long ago, it's normal not to remember. It's enough that I remember. The watch has three wrist arrows. Although you probably won't need them in most situations, they're good for self-defense."

He had modified this watch himself. From the first moment he saw her, Alexander had been thinking about giving her the most suitable gift.

He would give her jewelry and diamonds - those were for his noble and elegant fiancée.

The watch with its little mechanisms and his unique thoughtfulness was for his mysterious and commanding rival, who was also the girl he loved!

"You like me because I saved you?"

"No, I like you, and then I discovered you once saved me. Logically speaking, it only makes me like you more, rather than liking you because of a life-saving debt."

The two seemed no different, but Alexander stubbornly hoped she would know that his feelings for her had nothing to do with any identity from the start!

Annie, acting as a sculpture in the corner, looked speechless.

Alexander had just confessed! But judging by Catherine's reaction, it would probably take some time before they officially got together.

When would Catherine become her direct boss?

No matter, worst case she'd just quit and go work for Catherine. After all, Faceless Ones should need a capable and smart female assistant, right?

Catherine looked at the other watch in the box, met Alexander's suggestive gaze, understood his meaning, took it out, and put it on him.

"What does your watch have?"

"Just an ordinary watch. If there's anything different, it's probably that you put it on me."

He hadn't put any special features in his own watch, only hoping that every time she checked the time, she would think of him.

That way, he would be part of all her time!

Catherine thought for a moment, then took off the watch from Alexander's wrist.

"Fair exchange. Let me modify it and then give it back to you."

"Okay!"

Alexander restrained his joy, though the corners of his mouth curved up wildly. Seeing his ecstatic expression, Catherine couldn't help but smile too.

Maybe trying to spend time with him wasn't such a bad thing?

At least it would bring her happiness too!

A hurried phone ringtone rang. Catherine glanced at her phone. "Something came up at the gallery. I need to go."

"I'll take you."

"No need, Annie can take me."

If she remembered correctly, Alexander probably still had a pile of things to handle. That he could steal away to spend time with her now was all because Mercury had tricked him with a text message.

"Okay, I'll pick you up tonight and we'll go home for dinner together."

Catherine nodded in agreement and left the mall with Annie under Alexander's reluctant gaze.

Annie was so excited!

Catherine asked her to drive her and didn't even want Alexander - what did this mean? Rounding up, it meant she was already Catherine's employee!

Annie even felt like she could see the job offer from Faceless Ones. Alexander wasn't important - what was important was who wouldn't want to become Catherine's employee?

Catherine sat in the car, her gaze calm.

"Annie, while you were following Esme these past two days, did you notice anything unusual about her?"

"Let me think... actually yes. Esme has been playing cards with several people lately, but one person wasn't part of her regular card group before."

Esme was a typical spoiled young lady who only went shopping and played cards at nightclubs.

Annie thought for a moment and spoke carefully.

"Also, I suspect Esme might have done some not-so-good things!"
