Chapter 133: Esme, Get Out of the Windsor Family!
How did Lila end up in the emergency room out of nowhere?
"I'll go to the hospital and check on her. You guys eat first. If anything comes up, I'll call back."
From Bethany's tone, it seemed like Lila's condition wasn't very optimistic.
Marcus put down his fork. "What exactly happened? Is she really sick, or is she faking it?"
This wasn't the first or second time Lila had faked being sick. Everyone in the Windsor family had experienced it countless times.
When it came to this, the whole family suffered.
You could tell they'd all been tormented by Lila's fake illness tactics!
"The call came from the hospital's operating room. They said she's already being resuscitated."
Even though Lila and Marcus were divorced, she was still Bethany's mother. At this life-or-death moment, he still needed to go see her.
Marcus nodded and glanced at the Windsor family children.
"Aurora doesn't need to go, stay home and rest! Catherine, you go with Alexander. George, you go too."
George was a genius doctor. He'd know what was wrong with Lila with just one look.
Catherine pressed her lips together. "George doesn't need to go. I'll be fine."
George's arm injury seemed pretty serious. She hadn't seen him lift it once during dinner.
For a surgeon, hands are extremely important. Catherine worried that making the trip would make his wound worse.
Marcus understood.
Catherine's medical skills were quite good too, maybe not even worse than George's.
Marcus also understood that to learn such exceptional medical skills required not only outstanding talent but also tremendous effort.
Before Catherine returned to the Windsor family, who knows how much she had suffered.
Since she was willing to keep her secret, Marcus was happy to keep it for her!
"Just Catherine and Alexander go. Handle it as you see fit. I won't get involved."
Marcus didn't want to see Lila at all. He'd maintain that last bit of dignity for now.
George grabbed his coat from behind and thoughtfully helped Catherine put it on.
"Catherine, I can go. Let me come with you. I'm a doctor, I can help."
Catherine shook her head and spoke in a voice only she and George could hear: "Take care of your injury."
George was stunned!
Charles didn't even know he was injured. How did Catherine discover it?
Could it be that when he was eating, he accidentally pulled at the wound and showed a pained expression, giving it away?
The more George thought about it, the more he felt Catherine must be too observant, noticing something no one else had!
George felt warm inside, almost moved to tears on the spot.
Catherine was such an angel!
Bethany headed to Bright Heal Hospital with Alexander and Catherine.
As soon as they reached the operating room door, they saw Esme crying uncontrollably. If you didn't know better, you'd think Lila had already passed away.
Bethany strode forward. "Esme, what happened to your grandmother?"
Esme looked up to see an anxious Bethany and Catherine behind him!
Why did Catherine come too?
She must want to act filial so the Windsor family would think she was a good person.
Esme wiped her tears and glanced at Alexander next to Catherine, putting on a pitiful look.
Why was Alexander always standing next to Catherine?
"Dad, Grandma suddenly started talking nonsense, then she fainted. I don't know what happened, and then she went in for emergency treatment."
"How could she suddenly talk nonsense? What did she say?"
Esme shook her head. "I couldn't understand either. She said someone was hitting her, and there were wounds on her face. But the caregiver said Lila did it to herself. The hospital won't let me see the surveillance footage. Dad, is someone trying to harm Grandma?"
She got more excited as she spoke.
If someone really was trying to harm Lila, then they wouldn't have to leave the Windsor family!
A doctor came out of the operating room. "Mr. Bethany Windsor, Mrs. Lila Windsor's condition is still unstable. She needs to be observed in the ICU for a few days."
"Is my mom okay?"
"She's fine for now, but mentally not well. Does she have a drug dependency?"
Bethany was confused!
What did he mean by drug dependency?
"My mom is this old, she can't be doing drugs. Please take good care of her, use the best medicine and equipment. The Windsor family will cover everything else."
Catherine stood to the side, looked at Lila on the ventilator, and immediately understood what had happened.
Esme looked at Bethany. "Dad, you're leaving already?"
"Yeah, ICU visiting hours are limited. Esme, find yourself a hotel and get some rest. Your grandmother still needs you to take care of her. Catherine and I will head back. Don't leave for now tomorrow. Wait until your grandmother's condition improves."
Esme looked at Bethany in disbelief!
They were just leaving like that, with no intention of taking her back to Windsor Villa?
Lila was in the ICU, and Bethany was making her stay at a hotel alone!
"After Mom gets better, shouldn't she stay at home for a while? The doctor said it would be good for her condition."
Bethany looked troubled. "Esme, your mom and dad are divorced. It wouldn't be right for them to live together again. Go rest now. Thanks for your hard work."
Esme felt like she'd been struck by lightning!
Lila had divorced Marcus while she was away from Imperia City!
Now that they were divorced, she had no connection to the Windsor family at all!
Esme refused to accept this. She sat down on the floor and burst into tears.
"You can't be so heartless! Grandma is your own mother! If you don't care about her, how will she live?"
She didn't believe that if she made a scene, Bethany could keep his dignity!
Catherine looked at Esme and said calmly, "When you gave Lila those Vitality Pills, didn't you think this day would come?"
Esme froze!
How did Catherine know what the Vitality Pills did?
"You're lying! Vitality Pills are good things."
"Catherine, even if Grandma doesn't like you, you can't slander me like this!"
Catherine looked at her calmly and pulled out her phone to show a video.
In the video, Esme gave Lila pills and kept repeating in her ear that she was the only daughter of the Windsor family.
"Grandma, you have to do something for me too, right? I don't believe that even with you in ICU emergency care, Grandpa won't soften..."
Watching this video, Bethany was furious!
He slapped Esme across the face and shouted, "You ungrateful thing! Your grandmother loved you so much, and you still hurt her! You have nothing to do with the Windsor family anymore! Catherine, let's go!"
Esme covered her face, thinking it was over, everything was over!
Just because of a video Catherine got from somewhere, Bethany was kicking her out of the Windsor family!
When they returned to Windsor Mansion, it was late at night.
Bethany rushed into the study to find Marcus, leaving behind a blur.
Catherine met Alexander's smiling gaze, feeling a bit helpless.
"I'd really like to see my fiancée's room. Is that okay?"
"If I said no, would you not go?"
"Of course not."
Her room was simple and elegant. Except for the pink curtains Aurora had carefully selected, all the other furniture was chosen according to her own preferences.
Moonlight fell onto the balcony, filling the room with warmth.
Alexander wrapped his arms around Catherine's waist from behind, resting his chin on her neck. His warm breath instantly enveloped her, and she could even hear his heartbeat.
