Stuart felt the voice was familiar. He wondered if it was Doris.
He followed the sound and pushed open the doors of the fire escape.
"Stuart!" Stuart looked down and furrowed his brows.
Josephine was on the ground, in obvious pain.
She held her ankle and their eyes met. Stuart had always known Josephine was beautiful, but he believed that judging someone solely on looks was shallow. Yet, in that moment, as Josephine blinked her clear eyes, tears glistening, Stuart was momentarily captivated.
"Stuart!" Doris called again.
She was also on the ground beside Josephine. She couldn't understand why Stuart's gaze was fixed on Josephine alone.
Doris's voice brought Stuart back. He immediately went to her, taking the stairs two at a time. He crouched beside her. "What happened?" Doris, her eyes red, looked at him. "Stuart, I didn't mean to upset Josephine. I don't know why she got so angry. Please don't blame her. I accidentally fell. It's not her fault." She finished, tears welling up as she looked at Stuart. "Can you move?" Stuart checked her ankle. "Where does it hurt?"
"It's painful," Doris said softly. "Stuart, please don't be angry. Josephine didn't do it on purpose. It was my carelessness." Stuart calmly looked at Josephine, who remained silent. She didn't want to cry, especially in front of Doris and Stuart. But she never expected the pain from her sprained ankle to be so intense. It was excruciating.
Josephine held back her tears, listening to Doris's vague words. It was ridiculous. "Josephine, what did you do?”
Stuart's voice was cold.
"I never expected you to do something like this. Are you satisfied now?"
He helped Doris up.
Doris weakly said, "My foot hurts. I can't walk."
Josephine sat on the ground, her sprained foot throbbing with pain.
Doris was exaggerating, but Stuart believed her.
Josephine told herself not to worry, but it seemed like self-torture.
She looked at Stuart, who was comforting Doris. In the end, he carried Doris in his arms. Doris nestled against Stuart's chest, looking down at Josephine. In a hidden angle, she gloated.
But she said, "Stuart, don't mind me. Josephine is more injured than I am. It was her... No, it was my carelessness..."
"Doris," Josephine's voice interrupted her coldly.
Stuart frowned.
"What else do you want to say? Josephine, behave yourself!"
"Mr. Haustia," Josephine sneered, "I don't want to say anything. I just want to tell you that there are cameras installed in this corridor. If you want to know what happened just now, go and take a look."
Doris was surprised.
She thought, 'How can there be cameras in the fire escape? Then what I just said...'
She immediately grabbed Stuart's shirt, sobbing, "Stuart, I'm in pain."
He glanced deeply at Josephine. "You wait here..."
Before he could finish his sentence, the door of the fire escape was kicked open, and a hurried figure rushed down.
"Josie!" Liam anxiously crouched beside her. "Are you okay? Where are you hurt?"
Josephine had messaged him, but she didn't expect him to arrive so quickly.
"I twisted my ankle," she said, reaching for his arm. "Can you help me up?"
Liam quickly supported her.
Josephine tried to stand up, but the next second, she gasped in pain.
Without hesitation, he picked her up horizontally. "Don't move!"
He was about to leave, but as he looked up, he saw...
Stuart was holding Doris not far away. "What are they doing here?"
Liam's pace quickened. "What bad luck! Did you sprain your ankle because of them?"
He walked away from the fire escape.
Stuart's gaze turned icy the moment he saw Liam. It became even sharper when Liam pick Josephine up horizontally, as if he wanted to kill.
But Liam didn't give him a chance to speak and took Josephine away.
Doris felt Stuart's body tense and his aura turn cold.
She couldn't help but say softly, "Stuart, it hurts."
Stuart finally looked at her. The hostility and indifference that filled him instantly vanished as he saw her face.
He said softly, "Don't be afraid. I'll take you to see a doctor."
Doris finally felt relieved when she saw his emotional change.
But when she remembered what Josephine had said, she became anxious again. "Stuart, I really didn't lie. Dr. Kalmien brought me here. I didn't expect her to..."
Stuart interrupted her. "I'll take you to see a doctor first."
Josephine had a fractured ankle. Her foot was in a cast, and she was in a wheelchair.
Liam accompanied her for an X-ray and personally put the cast on her.
He had a serious expression the whole time.
"Alright. I'll be more careful next time," Josephine said with a smile. "Don't be angry. If you don't want to smile, then don't. You look terrible!"
Liam ruffled her hair.
"I'll take you home."
He took off his white coat, and his white shirt was tucked into his black pants, outlining his slender waist.
As he turned around, his perfectly proportioned figure was revealed.
Josephine said, "I won't delay you from working. I'll have someone pick me up."
"Who are you calling to pick you up?" Liam asked coldly.
"Are you still counting on that bastard Stuart?"
Josephine fell silent.
Liam pushed her out.
"Where do you want to go? The Haustia Manor... Is there anyone to take care of you there?"
Josephine gave a positive answer.
Liam reluctantly took her back to the Haustia Manor.
He took the wheelchair out of the trunk, then carried Josephine out of the car and put her in the wheelchair.
He bent down, held the wheelchair handles, and said, "When will divorce that bastard Stuart?"
"Liam."
Liam looked at her angrily. "Josephine, are you stupid? It's been three years. Even a stone would have heated up by now. But what about him?"
Josephine was about to speak when a car drove into the yard.
It was Stuart.
Liam looked back at Josephine. "Promise me, you'll divorce him, okay?"
She shook her head. "Just go."
"Josephine!" Liam was so angry that he gritted his teeth. "If you don't divorce him, I'll cut off all ties with you."
"Mr. Clement!" Stuart's voice was cold. "You're at my doorstep, threatening my wife to divorce me. You're very bold!"
"Stuart." Liam stood up; his gaze equally cold.
"If you have conscience, you should set her free."
"Set her free? Then ask Mrs. Haustia if she's willing to divorce me."
Liam angrily said, "You..."
Josephine suddenly reached out and grabbed Liam's sleeve.
"Liam..." Liam took a deep breath and slowly pulled her hand down.
Then, he suddenly punched Stuart in the face.
Stuart reacted quickly. The two of them instantly started fighting.
