Chapter 80
Alpha Silas’s POV
They kept coming, like a swarm of angry wasps. Another gunshot rang out, grazing my shoulder.
I hissed in pain but didn’t slow down.
I couldn’t afford to. Every second counted.Through the chaos, I realized one thing for sure. This wasn’t random. Somebody had set this up.
Somebody wanted me dead before I could reach Mooncroft.
And judging by their sharp movements and teamwork, they weren’t just common rogues.
They were trained.
Coordinated.
My mind raced as I fought off another two attackers.
Was it Lucien himself who had set this trap?
Or was it someone from my own pack, hiding behind a friendly face, pretending loyalty while plotting my downfall?
I didn’t know.
And right now, I didn’t have time to figure it out.
A rogue managed to get a grip on me, pinning my arms back tightly.
I twisted and shoved against him, but his hold tightened like a vise.
Another rogue stalked toward me, a knife gleaming wickedly in his hand.
He smirked like he had already won.
I thrashed harder, rage boiling inside me.
But the rogue holding me only laughed under his breath, squeezing harder.
The knife-wielder raised the blade high above his head, ready to plunge it deep into my chest,
And then…
A howl split the night air.
Loud. Fierce. Unmistakable. Another wolf. A powerful one.
For one frozen moment, every rogue turned their heads toward the sound.
The rogue holding me loosened his grip just slightly.
It was enough.
I slammed my head backward into his face.
He howled in pain, his nose crunching under the force.
I twisted free, just as the mystery wolf lunged into the clearing.
He was massive, bigger than any wolf I had ever seen his fur a gleaming silver under the moonlight.
His eyes glowed a fierce amber, burning with an anger that sent the rogues scattering back.
Without hesitation, the wolf slammed into the rogue with the knife, knocking him several feet through the air.
Chaos erupted.
The silver wolf tore through the rogues with ruthless efficiency, a blur of teeth and claws.
Wherever he moved, bodies flew.
I didn’t know who he was or where he had come from, but he fought like he had a personal grudge against every last one of them.
I wasn’t about to waste the opportunity.
I jumped back into the fight, driving my elbow into one rogue’s gut, then swinging him around to crash into two others.
In less than five minutes, the battlefield was cleared.
The surviving rogues fled into the woods, yelping and scrambling like rats abandoning a sinking ship.
The silver wolf turned to face me, chest heaving from the exertion.
For a second, we just stared at each other.
Gratitude surged through me, but so did caution.
Friend… or another player with his own hidden motives?
Before I could speak, the wolf dipped his head slightly, a respectful bow and then, without a sound, he disappeared into the shadows.
Gone as quickly as he had come.
I stood there for a moment, catching my breath.
Blood dripped from the gash in my shoulder, but adrenaline kept the pain at bay.
Whoever that wolf was, he had saved my life.
And one thing was certain, he wasn’t an ordinary rogue.
I made a mental note to find him later.
But right now, I had a mission to complete.
I stumbled back to my SUV, wincing as I moved my injured arm.
The vehicle had taken some hits bullet holes and dents, but by some miracle, it was still drivable.
I climbed in, started the engine, and peeled back onto the road.
Every muscle in my body screamed in protest, but I pushed on, gripping the steering wheel tightly with my good hand.
I couldn’t stop now.
I had to make it to Mooncroft.
Too much depended on it.
The night dragged on, the road stretching endlessly in front of me.
I replayed the attack over and over in my mind, searching for clues.
Why now?
Why here?
Who exactly wanted me dead?
Was it someone afraid of what would happen if I allied with Lucien?
Or was it someone within Mooncroft itself, trying to keep secrets buried?
I didn’t know.
But I intended to find out.
The trees grew thinner, giving way to open fields.
In the distance, I saw the first faint glimmer of lights.
Mooncroft.
Relief surged through me, sharp and overwhelming.
I pressed the accelerator harder, my tired body fueled by the simple thought of reaching safety.
The closer I got, the more the scenery changed.
Tall fences surrounded the territory, and two guards stood at the large wrought-iron gates.
They stiffened as I approached, stepping forward cautiously.
I rolled down the window, forcing a pained smile.
“Alpha Silas of the Black Moon Pack,” I said hoarsely.
“I’m here to see Alpha Lucien.”
The guards exchanged glances, then nodded. One of them spoke into a walkie-talkie.
A moment later, the gates began to creak open.I drove through slowly, the SUV rattling slightly from its injuries.
As I passed through the gates, my heart thudded harder against my ribs.
I was here.
I had made it.
