Chapter 7

Almost a week had passed before Kyla regained consciousness. Memories plagued her. Memories that weren't hers she realized with shock.

She slowly opened her eyes and immediately Azamir appeared in her field of vision. He tried a crooked smile.

"Mistress awake! Mistress awake!” he exclaimed, visibly pleased.

Kyla had to smile. "How long?" she simply asked.

"Seven nights." Azamir's hand gently touched her forehead and rested on it.

"Azamir tried everything, but mistress just not awake. Master very angry with Azamir. But tell Azamir that only mistress punish could him.“, he blurted out. Kyla closed her eyes.

"And he really didn't do anything to you?" she asked exhausted.

Azamir shook his head. "Master very friendly. Master gave herbs to Azamir and Master here every day."

Kyla suddenly woke up. "He was HERE?"

Azamir nodded. “Master know how Mistress is doing and whether Mistress is awake. Azamir promised master, tell Master when awake.” Kyla sighed. “Azamir wrong?”

“No, it's okay. Azamir, can I have something to drink please?” Azamir nodded and immediately he was gone. Kyla waited a moment before throwing back the covers and crawling out of bed. Her body felt weird. It was hers, and yet again not what it seemed. She walked towards the door, opened it and peered out. Azamir was not yet in sight. She made her way to Devon's room.

When she stood in front of the living door, she hesitated for a moment. Finally she overcame herself and put her hand on the wood. She felt life under her hand. Kyla closed her eyes. Please let me in, she begged in her mind. The door fell silent. No more pulsing. Kyla opened her eyes and the door swung open.

She entered cautiously and looked around. It was empty. Kyla considered leaving, but then she spotted another door that was open a crack. With quiet steps she walked closer and peered through the gap. From what she could make out it looked like an oversized bathroom. And then Devon showed up. The red liquid ran down his body as he emerged from his bath. Kyla sucked in her breath and her heart started pounding a wild rhythm. She forced herself to look away from him and walked towards Devon's bed. She would wait until he was done.

Devon sensed that he was being watched and automatically his gaze wandered to the connecting door to his room. He closed his eyes for a moment to know who had the audacity and who had managed to break into his room. Seeing Kyla, he looked surprised for a moment. He would have least expected her. He decided not to be disturbed and dived deeper into the blood of the people again.

But her presence did not leave him in peace, so he called rather harshly for a servant and had her dress him a short time later.

When he entered his room he found Kyla asleep on his bed. Did she know what this image triggered in him? Slowly he came closer and looked at her.

Gently, his hand stroked her hair, which fell loose over her shoulders. Kyla opened her eyes, awakened by that touch. It took her a moment to know where she was and she jumped up immediately. Her gaze fixed on Devon, she studied him. He was back in his black robes, his hair still damp and falling in single strands over his shoulder. She forced herself to control and stood up. Devon took a step back. Her look alone told him he shouldn't touch her.

"What do you want here?" he asked instead. Kyla cocked her head slightly to the side.

"It was unnecessary to stress Azamir like that. And also to be mad at him. After all, he's not to blame for my breakdown.”

“It was his job to see to your well-being,” Devon replied coolly.

Anger welled up in Kyla. "Damned, he did too! He can't help it if I…” She stopped abruptly.

"If you remember?" Devon prompted with a slight smile. Kyla's eyes flashed with anger.

"It doesn't matter for what reason. I'm warning you Devon. Get a grip on Azamir or you'll never see Raia again, not in this life or another.”

Devon arched an eyebrow. Had Raia already awakened?

"You can't influence that," he replied simply. Now it was Kyla's turn to smile.

"Devon, you have no idea what I can do. I'll give you the same advice you gave me, don't underestimate me.”

And that was the end of the matter for her. Kyla resolutely walked past him. The door opened by itself and when it closed again, Devon was standing in front of his bed, a wide grin curling his lips.
