"April, more men are coming, you have to leave." Hugh warned through the earpiece.
"Give us directions for the nearest exist Hugh." I told him as Lucian and I remained in the janitor's closet.
"You're way too far for the fire exits that I told you about, but there's a staircase that can lead you to the ground floor." Hugh replied and I could hear the sound of his fingers tapping against the keyboard.
"Okay, lead us to it." I ordered as Lucian and I ran out of the closet, me running in front.
"Rose watch out!" I heard Lucian yell as he ran faster towards me.
I looked to my side and ducked just in time as a man swinged his fist to my face but missing me.
I caught his arm that was still in the air and brought it to my knee, earning myself a satisfying crack and a yelp of pain from the man.
I turned around to find Lucian aiming a kick in the stomach to a man as he punched another.
I got pulled out of my staring when someone kicked me in the back making me stumble forwards and fall to the ground.
I quickly turned around and kicked the man who pushed me where the sun doesn't shine.
He doubled over, giving me great access to punch his face.
Blood oozed out of his nose and I knew for sure that it was broken.
"Lucian." I called out as I ducked from another man's kick.
"Yes baby?" He answered as he punched a man in the eye.
"You never really did tell me, how you came to know that I was here?" I asked punching a man in the gut and side kicking his friend.
"Your idiot of a friend told me." Lucian replied as he threw a man over his back.
I turned around and looked at him in confusion. "Hugh?" I asked as I tilted my head to the side.
Lucian ran towards me and picked me up by my waist.
"Kick." He ordered and I obliged.
A man yelped as my feet came in contact with his chest.
"Yes, Hugh." Lucian said with a small smile as he put me down to my feet.
"You're welcome." Hugh said into my ear causing a small smile to spread across my lips.
"But you have to really get out now, the local police are approaching." He continued making my smile falter.
Uh oh.
I quickly grabbed Lucian's hand and started running.
"Turn left." Hugh commanded.
We entered another corridor with lockers lining up against the wall.
"Get them!" We heard someone yell from behind us as Lucian and I continued running.
I was running out of breath and my muscles felt very sore.
Lucian must've noticed my decrease in speed as he picked me up bridal style and continued running.
"I can still run you know." I told him.
"I know." Lucian smirked down at me before turning his gaze back in front of him.
"You've got one hiding behind a locker and approaching in three..." Hugh said.
"...two." We continued running.
"And one." He finished as soon as we approached where the man was. He got out from his hiding place behind a locker, and I was quick to slam a half-opened locker door into his face.
His head bounced back and he held his bleeding nose.
"Not bad." Lucian appraised and I bowed my head in curtsy earning myself a deep, hearty chuckle from him as he started running again.
It sent my nerves to overdrive and I guess I can finally die a happy girl now.
"Go right. You'll find the staircase to your left." Hugh noted.
"Right." I said and Lucian nodded.
Just like Hugh said, there was a door to a staircase right around the corner on our left.
Lucian put me back down and attempted to open the door, but it was locked.
He tugged at it angrily, but it still wouldn't open.
"Step back Rose." He said as he gently pushed me back a little.
"What are you going to do?" I asked with furrowed eyebrows.
My question was answered when Lucian strongly kicked the door, breaking it off its hinges. I gaped at him.
"I was awesome, wasn't I?" He smirked as he turned to look at me with pride full eyes.
I chuckled at him and pushed him to the front.
"Yeah yeah, so awesome." I said between chuckles and shook my head.
Boys.
"What? I was." He protested like a kid making me laugh again.
We started descending the stairs, but then head on started running when we heard the men approaching.
It didn't take us time to go down to the ground level which was swarmed with people all over.
Lucian took my hands in his and we started walking through the mass of bodies, trying as much as possible to not draw attention more than there was.
The cramped place would help hide us from the men running after us, even if only for a minute or two.
"Where's the exist Hugh?" I asked as I wasn't able to see from the people in front of me.
"You have one on your right, but that's filled with police, so you'll have to leave through the garage." Hugh replied making me groan out in annoyance.
"What did he say?" Lucian asked.
"We have to leave through the garage door." I replied as we started heading left.
"Freya." Lucian spoke all of a sudden. "I need you to get a car to the train station's garage in about five minutes." He continued.
Freya? That name rings a bell.
It took me a while to remember where I heard it before. She's the girl that I saved from those rogues many nights before. Is she aware of all this too?
But wait...how is he talking to her?
I looked up at Lucian in confusion.
"You're not the only one with the earpiece and a computer geek by your side." Lucian said with a smirk when he noticed me looking at him.
"Freya is involved too?" I asked in shock.
Lucian nodded. "She helps me out."
"Oh" Was all that came out of my mouth.
"Remind me to thank you for saving her too." Lucian smiled down at me and I felt my face heat up.
"You knew about that?" I asked in a low voice.
"Yup." Lucian replied, popping the 'p'.
We saw the garage door right ahead and both Lucian and I picked up speed.
We were able to leave through the door peacefully without getting caught by the men.
"There they are!" Someone yelled from behind us, and when I looked around, I saw that not only were the men approaching but also a couple policemen were coming our way.
"Lucian." I dragged out impatiently as we stood in the garage waiting for the car. The men were approaching, we weren't moving, and I was getting nervous with each second that passed by.
Lucian clicked his tongue. "Come on Freya." He spoke.
I watched as the men pushed people aside and we're quickly making their way towards us.
Right as they stepped out the door, a black SUV pulled up right behind us.
Its door opened, revealing a blonde-haired man inside.
"Quickly, get in." He ushered.
We didn't waste time to jump right into the car as it sped through the garage.
I looked through the back glass to watch the men groan in defeat with angry and frustrated looks.
But then it clicked in my head. I have to know who sent them, that way I'll be closer to finding out who killed my parents.
"Stop the car!" I yelled quickly, making the driver stop the car dangerously fast. Our bodies bouncing forwards.
"What's wrong Rose? What happened?" Lucian asked with worry.
"We have to take one of them." I replied. All three men looked at me like I've grown a second head.
"Why?" Blondie asked.
"I have to know who sent them." I answered, keeping all details to myself.
"And why would you want to know that? Let's just leave." Lucian said.
"No! I have to. Please." I pleaded as I looked into Lucian's eyes, begging him.
He sighed deeply before signalling for the driver to turn around.
Powers of a mate.
The driver didn't hesitate to listen to Lucian's orders and was quick to turn around.
As we neared the men, I watched as they looked at our car in confusion.
Blondie opened the door while he and Lucian reached their hands out and when we got close enough to the men, they both grabbed one of them and pulled him with us inside.
Blondie quickly closed the door as the other men yelled profanities at themselves and at us.
The man that we just caught growled at Lucian and blondie as he tried to wriggle free out of their hold. He was lying on the car floor right at our feet.
Blondie flicked his forehead. "Calm down, we only wanna talk." He smirked at him as both blondie and Lucian placed their feet on the man.
The man growled again as he rubbed his forehead, his glare never leaving blondie's face.
"Who sent you?" I didn't waste time to ask.
The man looked in my direction and smirked. "Like I'd answer some brat like you." He answered.
Lucian growled as blondie calmly held his nose.
"Answer the lady." He told him. "You don't have to be rude."
"Let me go!" The man snarled at blondie as he tried to claw at blondie's fingers, his voice coming out different because of his blocked nose.
It was a sight to see and I tried my best to not stifle a laugh.
"Not before you answer her I won't." Blondie shrugged and squeezed the man's nose tighter making him groan out in pain.
"They'll have my head if I did." The man snapped.
"And what will make you so sure that we won't if you didn't." Blondie told him with an oh so sweet smile.
The man glared at him for some time before sighing deeply.
"Even if I wanted to, I can't. We don't know who sent us, all we know is that our alpha got an anonymous order and we followed along. We were promised cash when we're done." The man said.
I fell back in my seat, tired from all this.
In the end, I still didn't find out who sent them and I'm not a step close.
"Done doing what exactly?" Lucian asked angrily, and I knew what answers he suspected would come out of the man's mouth.
"The order was simple actually. Get the package and kill the girl." The man shrugged making Lucian growl. He didn't hesitate to punch the man and knock him out unconscious.
"Oh man!" Blondie whined. "I wanted to play with him more."
"Shut up Randy." Lucian snapped.
He sure didn't like the idea of someone wanting to kill me. I didn't like it either, but I knew what I was getting myself into when I started all this.
I held his tightened fist and looked up at him.
His body visibly relaxed and he turned to look at me.
Lucian sighed before pulling me to him.
"I hate that you're always in danger." He murmured into my neck.
I sighed too. "I know. I'm sorry." I whispered as I ran my hand down his hair.
I hate that you got involved too Lucian. I thought to myself but said nothing, knowing quite well what it would lead to. There was no need for another argument on this topic.
We pulled apart and I rested my head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around my body protectively.
All I have to do now is try to protect him as much as possible and pray that the folder that I got from the locker would help me with any leads.
