The doctors did their part with the dead. Blood samples were taken and recorded. We like to keep close records of our pack members. This helps if something happens off-pack lands. The rest of the pack has been gathering wood and building the three pryers. The biggest being for the unnamed Luna of our pack. My wolf is still in hiding suffering in the pain of losing her so fast. Wade is recording the whole thing so those who wish to see the send-off. Sending a prayer to the goddess for the Luna taken from us too soon.
I feel lost and numb to all things right now. Standing there watching them build the pyre. Normally we would decorate with her favorite flowers and colors but we knew nothing about her. I just stare not seeing. Wade walks up next to me. “I can't even image man. But we need you to be strong and help us get through this. Also your not gonna like this but three teens have come up missing along with a few small pups from the daycare center.” “what? How many are missing and how long? Why am I just hearing about this now?” “the teens were volunteering at the daycare, when the alarm went off they all grabbed pups to head to the bunker. They never made it so they thought maybe they went to the one teen's house where her father has a panic room. But they are not there either. I sent trackers to try and pick up their scent they came back finding nothing.” wade tells me. Looking around I see several wolves looking to me. “we will do everything we can to bring back our young, after the sending off of our lost I will be contacting the alphas close by and collect any information I can.” I tell them all.
The family of the lost make their way to the pyres torches in hand. “today we lost family members. We are sending them to be with you moon goddess. We ask you receive them well and just.” wishing had more to say but I am lost for words. Lowering my torch sending my lost mate to the goddess.
The fires blaze bright and hot. A soft silver glow settles over them. Closing my eyes thanking the goddess.
Soon there is nothing but ash left. The wind picks up sending the ashes over the trees. The bodies of our lost will help our land grow and thrive. Turning away and heading inside. Wade follows me to the office. Picking up my phone I start making calls to the surrounding packs. Turns out they all have been attacked by rogues and have had young females go missing as well. The more I gather the less I like what I am hearing. Looking at the time I stand and head to the door. “wade gets some rest we will start again tomorrow.” walking out before he could say anything back.
I have so much to do starting tomorrow. I half want to call john and Kyle back but I don’t want to risk causing them to lose their chance to find a mate. So I will call them back right after the ball. I will order all my wolves back. After making a list of packs who have been hit and who have not I will start an investigation and put a call into the king. Also, I need to plan a pack meeting after everyone is back to inform them all that Kim will be the acting Luna of the pack for now. If they have any Luna-related questions or problems she will be the one to go to.
I will have to find that book mother wrote for the new Luna should she be found before mother returned. I will wait until my parents come back to tell them about my mate. I refuse to ruin their time away from the pack. I will also see about talking to the elders. I know from stories growing up about second chance mates. I want to know if this is an option for me or if I need to choose a mate. Not that it matters right now I can't seem to care about much. Locking myself away in my room I lay on my bed and finality let myself break for the one I lost before I even found it. My heart is shattered and my cheeks are now stained with the salt of my tears. Finally, sleep takes me. Surrounded by a black void. Then a light starts coming towards me. No two lights. Shining blue orbs came towards me.
They are pulling at my broken heart. A scent starts to drift towards me. Then a painful scream fills the air the blue orbs dim slowly fading away. Running toward them I need them close to me. The more I run the further they get. Black bleeding to red. In a blink, the blue orb’s are gone replaced with red ones. This time they are coming towards me fast. They don’t read kind and friendly to me. Turning and running trying to stay away. They surge forward faster I feel them breathing down my neck. My skin crawls in fear as I try and push myself faster. Heat and pain spread down my back. The wet liquid is running, dripping down my legs. Iron heavy in the air. The scent is mine. My blood spilled from my back down my body leaving a river of red behind me. Screaming for help or I try but no sound is coming out. My vision is dancing with black dots as I start to slow down. I can feel the red-eyed demon is playing with me. He wants me to be the sufferer and I am giving him what he wants. I try and shift but my wolf is gone. I am alone here. My body gives out crumpling to the ground. This is how it ends I think to myself as everything goes black.
