Chapter 388

Emily knew exactly what Brynn was thinking, and her playful side took over. She continued, "You know, I think you'll find a great guy someday. You've got a knack for picking 'em. Raymond treats me like a queen. Seriously, if I asked for the stars, he'd probably bring me the moon too. And money? He gave me a credit card with no limit..."

Brynn's mind went blank, unable to process what she was hearing. Her mouth opened slightly, but no words came out. She was frozen, like a deer in headlights.

Emily's words hit Brynn like a ton of bricks. Emily was just messing around; she knew exactly what Brynn was thinking and didn't see her as any real competition. But tonight, Emily was bored after a long day, and Brynn was providing some much-needed amusement.

Brynn, however, seemed determined to keep up with Emily. She kept talking, almost desperately.

"Mr. Carter is really good to everyone, especially me. Maybe it's because I just graduated, and he feels like he needs to look out for me. Don't let his cold exterior fool you; he's actually really kind."

"Mr. Carter has been so helpful to me. In our company, the higher-ups sometimes harass the newbies because they think we're easy targets. I heard about this from classmates before I graduated, but I never thought it would happen to me."

"It happened at a dinner party. Mr. Stewart was supposed to go with Mr. Carter, but he had to deal with a project issue, so I was sent instead. During dinner, some of the partners started showing interest in me and even tried to touch me. I felt so helpless and didn't know what to do, but I was afraid of messing up our cooperation. I endured the whole dinner, but Mr. Carter noticed and stood up for me. He reprimanded the partners for disrespecting his employees. They apologized and even offered better terms for cooperation, but Mr. Carter refused, saying he wouldn't work with people like that."

Emily was taken aback by Brynn's story. She hadn't expected such an incident between Raymond and Brynn. It was definitely surprising. But what shocked Emily more was that Raymond would stand up to partners for an intern. Did Brynn mean something special to him?

Emily just smiled, not saying a word. She realized Brynn was just an ordinary girl without any special background. But Brynn didn't notice Emily's lack of interest and kept going on about how wonderful Raymond was to her.

"One time, it was pouring, and I didn't have an umbrella. Mr. Carter drove over to pick me up and took me home. He saw me sneezing and even bought me some medicine."

"For my graduation a few months ago, no one came to celebrate with me. Mr. Carter showed up, brought me a gift, and took me out for a seafood dinner that night. It was incredible, and I'm really grateful."

Emily was a bit skeptical of Brynn's story. From what she knew about Raymond, this seemed a bit over the top. He never treated her like that. Emily glanced at Brynn, who had a simple, clean look, not particularly striking. She had a sisterly vibe.

Emily couldn't see Raymond being interested in someone like Brynn. She responded, "I didn't know my husband was so kind to a young girl. It shows I chose the right person. Despite his high status, he has a tender side. He must value you a lot. You must have some special qualities."

Brynn blushed and lowered her head. "I don't have any special qualities. During the interview, I was competing with graduates from prestigious schools and overseas universities. They were all very strong, and I was just a regular college graduate. I was just trying my luck and faced a lot of ridicule. When I thought I would fail, Mr. Carter saw something in me and gave me a chance. He's truly a benefactor in my life."

Emily's eyes flashed with complex emotions, but she forced a smile. Brynn continued, oblivious to Emily's expression.

"Mr. Carter is really good to me. Interns usually do the dirty work, but Mr. Carter never lets me do it. If our team leader assigns me such tasks, Mr. Carter talks to them. Now, my work is the easiest, thanks to Mr. Carter."

"Recently, it was my birthday, and there was a party. Mr. Carter took me as his guest and said it was my birthday gift. I'm really grateful."

Brynn's face lit up with joy as she spoke. Emily felt increasingly uneasy. Brynn's intentions seemed more than just casual conversation. Was she trying to stir up trouble between Emily and Raymond? But Brynn was being presumptuous.

As Emily pondered, Brynn spoke again, "Mr. Carter found out I live far away because downtown housing is too expensive. I rent in the suburbs and commute for an hour. He asked if I had a driver's license and bought me a car worth several thousand dollars, saying it was mine as long as I worked at the Carter Group."
