Chapter 30: Riley's Plot
Cheryl's lips curled up slightly, then she got up and left.
Just as she returned to the second floor, she saw Laura sitting on the sofa.
"Laura."
Laura glanced downstairs where Aiden had already gone to the study, and then she spoke with a troubled expression, "Mom, about Matthew..."
Without waiting for her to finish, Cheryl interrupted coldly, "I know what you're thinking. This matter can't be rushed. Right now, we need to figure out a way to make Clara completely break with your dad, so that your dad can announce the complete severance of their relations."
Although she had instigated it back then, Aiden had never announced it publicly.
Not even someone in the Taylor family knew.
As long as it wasn't publicly announced, it would be easy for Clara to seek the Taylor family's fortune.
After hiding for more than ten years, she didn't want to end up with nothing.
Seeing Cheryl's displeased expression, Laura didn't dare say anything else, so she could only nod obediently.
But in her mind, she couldn't help but think about Matthew's handsome face, which brought up other thoughts.
Cheryl rubbed her forehead. "Get some rest. We're going to the hospital to see Mr. Andrew tomorrow."
"Okay, goodnight, Mom." Laura smiled obediently and watched her mother return to the bedroom. Then, she casually took out her phone and searched for information about Matthew.
The next morning, Clara woke up and was just about to get up to go to the bathroom when the door of the ward was pushed open.
It was Matthew.
She was taken aback and subconsciously looked at the clock on the wall.
It was exactly six o'clock.
"Why are you here so early? Mr. Andrew's surgery is in the afternoon." Clara deliberately reminded him, her voice soft and weak from just waking up.
Matthew's heart was momentarily moved by her words. "I know."
Clara pursed her lips, not knowing what to say for a moment.
Seeing that Matthew showed no signs of leaving, she furrowed her brow and decided to speak up, "Could you help me up? I need to go to the bathroom."
Her knee injury was serious, so it was best to have someone help her up. If she lost her balance and fell, it would be bad.
Matthew didn't say anything, but he moved quickly.
He lifted her up around the waist and headed toward the bathroom.
Clara had anticipated Matthew's actions and didn't struggle.
"Do you need me to help you?" Matthew asked, his gaze falling on Clara's pants, with a clear implication.
Clara realized what he meant and suddenly felt uncomfortable. "No need!"
She even doubted how Matthew could say such a thing.
Even though they had been married, it wasn't to the point where he could help take off her pants.
When Matthew saw a hint of panic in her eyes, he couldn't help but tease her a bit. He not only didn't leave but even took a few steps forward. "Is there any place on you that I haven't seen?"
This remark sparked Clara's imagination, and she couldn't help but recall the details of that night.
Her earlobes reddened.
"Get out." She gritted her teeth and pushed him away.
She looked in such a way that Matthew found her somewhat cute.
Matthew hadn't gone far, standing with his back to the closed bathroom door.
He wasn't even sure why he had turned down work and come here so early.
As he lowered his head in thought, he found a good excuse for himself.
Everything was for the smooth progress of Andrew's surgery.
Matthew nodded as if affirming his thoughts.
"Matthew."
Clara's voice rang out, bringing him back to reality.
As the door opened, Matthew turned around just in time to see her struggling to stand up, then falling uncontrollably forward.
Matthew's brow furrowed, and he quickly reached out and grabbed her around the waist, smoothly flipping her over and holding her in his arms!
"Don't try to be strong when you shouldn't be!" he frowned, coldly uttering a sentence.
Clara was stunned for a moment, looking up at Matthew's face. She could vaguely see a flash of anger in his eyes, and her fingers trembled for a moment. "Matthew, are you... worried about me?"
As soon as the words fell, she felt Matthew stop in his tracks.
Matthew looked down, meeting the woman's eyes full of teasing, and the emotions inside him surged again at this moment.
"You're overthinking it. I'm just worried no one will operate on Grandpa!"
That was right!
He wasn't worried about Clara.
He was just afraid of delaying Andrew's surgery.
Even though that's what he said, Clara still caught the remorse in his eyes.
She couldn't help but curl her lips, finding it somewhat amusing.
"Is that so, then..."
Before she could finish her sentence, she was tossed onto the bed, with him showing no mercy.
The bed rail accidentally touched the wound, causing Clara to sharply inhale in cold air.
"Matthew!" she couldn't help but shout.
He was obviously doing it on purpose.
Matthew raised an eyebrow, his gaze falling on her. "What?"
Seeing Matthew pretending to be innocent, Clara gritted her teeth and smiled politely. "Mr. Garcia, if you have nothing to do, you can leave. I won't be absent for the surgery this afternoon."
However, Matthew turned around and sat directly on the sofa, staring at her expressionlessly. "I have plenty of time."
It was obvious he was planning to stay. Clara didn't bother to continue urging him to leave and took out her phone to contact Mia.
Suddenly she remembered what happened last night, and her eyes flickered for a moment. She looked up at Matthew and asked, "Matthew, if the car accident is related to the Garcia family, what would you do?"
Her probing words made Matthew's eyes narrow. "Related to the Garcia family?"
Thinking of the thrilling scene that day, he instinctively denied it. "The Garcia family wouldn't do anything harmful."
Seeing how confident he was, Clara coldly smiled at him. "This matter..."
Before she could finish her sentence, the door of the ward was suddenly pushed open.
Immediately, a figure ran to the bed and picked up a pillow, smashing it at Clara.
"Clara, why are you so vicious! How dare you find someone to beat up Riley! What did Riley do wrong!"
The person was Sharon, followed by Lillian and Riley, who had a bruised and swollen face from being beaten up.
"I beat her?" Clara raised an eyebrow, her gaze probing.
After examining the marks on Riley's face, her eyes darkened. It seemed Riley had used the tactic of playing the victim first.
Riley looked pitifully at Matthew, covering her face and sounding tearful. "Matthew, look at my face. Clara found someone to beat me up. I really don't know what I did to Clara to be beaten like this. What if my face is ruined? What should I do..."
Lillian sighed deeply, her indignation evident. "Matthew, you must intervene in this matter for Riley. Ms. Edwards found someone to attack Riley for no reason... It's just..."
Matthew furrowed his brow and carefully examined the bruises on Riley's face, confirming they were real.
His suspicious gaze immediately fell on Clara.
Clara tugged at her lips, relaxing against the headboard of the bed. "Ms. Scott, how can you be so sure that I found someone to attack you, and why would I attack you?"
She was curious to see what Riley was planning to do.
