Chapter 38 Are you cheating on Ethan?
The restaurant is quiet. The main reason is that the chef preparing the food is hired from a wealthy island country, so the food is especially authentic.
Lily usually loves sushi. From time to time, she drags her friend and Karl out for a hearty lunch and is always very satisfied.
This time, as soon as she began munching on the delicious sushi, she almost forgot all the troubles of the day.
"Don't eat so fast," Karl reminded her helplessly, looking at the mustard sauce that had accidentally stained the corner of her mouth.
Lily was trying to vent the day's pent-up frustration with the food and wasn't listening at all. Karl had to grab a napkin, cross the table, place it on the corner of her mouth, and gently wipe away the mustard.
"Well... Thank you, Karl," Lily smiled, her eyes sparkling, and continued chewing. Just as she swallowed her eel sushi, she heard the click of heels on the wooden floor, followed by a female voice so soft it left her speechless.
"Hey, who's this? That's not it... Oh, I forgot to ask your name last time." Her ample breasts swayed before her, and Lilly looked up in surprise to see Jessica, her face heavily made up.
"Hey, girl, whose hair hasn't even grown yet, what's your name?" Jessica asked haughtily.
"I don't know you." Lilly hid her surprise and continued eating.
"You!" Jessica's expression twisted.
How dare she call her a stranger! She'd grown up with Ethan since childhood, and they were about the same age, but he was almost ten years older than Lilly. A ten-year age difference between a man and a woman isn't a problem, but a ten-year age difference between women is a big one.
This meant that Lilly was a young woman, perhaps in her early twenties, but already in her thirties. Lilly's casual response had touched her greatest weakness as a woman.
Jessica grew angry at the thought. She slammed the table. Just as she was about to start a scene, Karl grabbed her hand.
Karl's fingers were smooth and beautiful, even slimmer than a woman's. Since he often held a scalpel, his hands were firm and quick. As soon as he grabbed Jessica's wrist, he easily pulled her hand off the table.
"Please don't disturb us while we eat," Karl said politely and courteously, pushing her away from the table.
Jessica took a few steps before she could barely stand still. She looked at the man across from Lilly with shock and fear. He looked gentle and elegant, his temperament calm and harmless, but this act caused people's hearts to go cold for no apparent reason.
And Karl's eyes were always fixed on Lilly, full of care and tenderness.
Just like Ethan, although Ethan wasn't as overt as Karl, they both cared equally for Lilly.
Why did they all love her so much?
Jessica was angry and jealous, and her blue eyes turned to him. She had suffered a defeat on Karl's side, so she wasn't going there just yet.
She changed direction and returned to Lilly's place. She gently placed her right hand on Lilly's shoulder and asked in a deliberately loud voice, "Hey, are you cheating on Ethan?"
Lily nearly choked on her question and quickly took her brown rice tea and drank it.
"Why such a violent reaction? Wasn't that right?" Jessica smiled maliciously.
"Madam, please be respectful and don't insult my friend," Karl finally said, his voice tinged with anger.
"Oh..." Jessica deliberately drawled the words, looked at Karl with a displeased expression, and patted Lilly on the shoulder. "Is this your friend or your girlfriend?"
Karl stared at Lilly and said calmly, "This has nothing to do with you."
"Handsome, I'm just reminding you not to take other people's shoes and treat them like treasure." Jessica's words took on a nasty edge, but she didn't notice Karl's expression change.
She reluctantly turned to Lilly and said, "Hey, why don't you tell him you have a boyfriend? Why? Don't you dare? Are you afraid that handsome guy will find out you're lying?"
"I don't understand a word you're saying," Lilly frowned. She was annoyed at being disturbed while eating. She brushed off Jessica's claws and said brusquely, "If you keep bothering us here, I'll call someone."
"What are you pretending to be!" Jessica continued to raise her voice, attracting the guests' attention. "Didn't you tell me last time that you and Ethan were dating?"
Lilly blinked and said, "You misunderstood. Ethan and I are not dating." Although Ethan had said last time that she would accompany him to the performance as an additional clause in Jessica's agreement.
But she hadn't agreed then, and Karl was still here. She had just told Karl she had nothing better to do.
With Ethan, so she couldn't ruin her own scene at that moment.
Seeing that she wouldn't admit it, Jessica angrily said, "You said it yourself! Why can't you admit it now!"
Lily continued blinking and said calmly, "Huh? Did I say that? I don't remember at all." She really did.
She didn't say she and Ethan had a relationship.
Jessica had no evidence to refute her, so she said mockingly, "You really are shameless. No wonder you always say are ruthless."
Lily didn't get angry, but took a deep breath and said, "The world is going downhill, and the people in power are mad dogs who bark all the time."
Jessica immediately became furious, but Karl's presence prevented her from doing so, so she could only point at Lily's nose and shout, "Wait!"
"Are you going to say, 'I'll tell Mom?'" Lily interrupted with a smile.
Jessica stomped her heels angrily and stormed out of the restaurant, bending her waist.
"Darling, where did you get this woman?" Karl asked, handing Lily the eel sushi. Seeing that she wasn't the least bit upset and continued to happily eat her sushi, he couldn't help but smile.
Lily waved her hand and said, "She came here herself. Don't mind her, we'll eat our own."
Karl thought about Jessica's words and recalled the scene he'd witnessed downstairs when he'd come to pick her up earlier, and he hesitated: "What did she just say..."
"What?" Lilly feigned incomprehension, smiled, and shoved an oyster into Karl's mouth. "Don't worry about that crazy woman, let her make all the fuss she wants."
Lilly didn't know that Jessica had actually caused quite a stir.
Leaving the restaurant, Jessica saw Lilly feeding Karl through the glass window, and a plan occurred to her. She immediately pulled out her cell phone and called Ethan.
After three attempts to hang up and three attempts to ignore the call, she finally got through. "I warn you, this call has to be worthwhile for me to answer," Ethan's voice came from the other end of the line, his tone gruff, and it was obvious he was in a bad mood.
