Chapter 104
It was time for Adams to return home but there was no sign of him anywhere, Alicia became worried since he never comes home late, she the decides to call him.
When Adams answered the call, she let out a breath of relief.
"What's wrong Adams? Why aren't you home yet? I'm so worried about you."
"I know, I'm so sorry, I was going to call you but it skipped my mind, I've got lots of work at the office so I won't be able to come home tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow morning."
"You should have called to inform me, Diane woke up and she asked me about you."
"I'm really sorry, it's my fault for forgetting."
Alicia could tell how stressed out he was from his voice, so she decides to just let it slide and not add to his stress.
"How's Diane? Has she gone back to bed?"
"Yes."
"I hate it that I can't come home, but if I don't get all this sorted out today then it's going to become an issue later, I'm really sorry for not being able to come home."
"It's fine, just don't overdo it or else you get sick, so just take it easy okay."
"I will, I miss you both so much, I promise to come home very early tomorrow."
Alicia smiled. "Alright, I also do have something important to discuss with you so please make sure you return home, it's really important.''
"What's it? Why don't you just tell me now."
"No Adams, it's better you come home first."
"Alright, I'll do just that." Adams replied.
They both talked for a little while longer before ending the call.
After the call, Alicia went to lie in bed with Diane, although she made sure to lock Diane's door but she couldn't stop feeling a bit scared, and because of this, it took a long time before she forced herself to sleep while holding her daughter.
Next day...
Alicia couldn't let Diane go to school because she wanted to monitor her for another day, just to make sure her daughter was fully okay.
When Adams returned, he couldn't find Alicia in their bedroom, so he went to check Diane's bedroom and was surprised to see Diane, he thought she would have gone to school by now.
The moment Diane saw him, she jumped down from her bed and ran to him. He picked her up immediately.
"I miss you so much Daddy, I'm so happy you're back." Diane said, hugging his neck tightly. "Mommy said you didn't come home yesterday." She whined.
"I'm so sorry honey, Daddy had a lot of things to take care of and that's why I couldn't come home, but now I'm here and i miss you so much." He kissed her cheek lovingly.
Adams walked to Alicia and gave her a side hug since he was still carrying Diane. "How are you?" He asked and Alicia managed to smile, then she told him that she was fine, it's not like that's true but she just wanted to let him get some rest first before saying what she had to say to him.
"Why isn't Diane in school today? Hope nothing's wrong."
"I'm going to explain later, first give her to me and go freshen up, I already prepared breakfast for you." Alicia replied, then she took Diane from him.
Adams furrowed his brow in confusion, he could tell something was wrong from Alicia's facial expression, he tried getting her to talk to him but she insisted that he go do the needful first and then they'll talk.
"The suspense is killing me, Alicia, and I can tell something is up, so please talk to me and let me know what it is." He pleaded but Alicia remained Adamant. In the end Adams gave up and decides to do as she said.
"I'll be quick." He kissed both her and Diane before leaving the room.
On his way back to his room, Adams ran into Evie and was shocked to see the bruises on her face. Adams instantly held her hand.
"What in the world happened to you, Evie!?'' He questioned, starting to get angry at the thought of someone hurting her.
Evie jerked her hand away and then she scoffed. "Just leave me alone, Adams." She tried to leave but Adams held her hand and wouldn't let her take another step.
"Don't act stubborn now, Evie, tell me who did this to you! Who dared to raise their hands on you and hurt you this much!?" He thundered.
"Why don't you go ask your fiancee and her bitch of a friend, May!"
"What?" Adams muttered. "What are you trying to say, Evie? Are you trying to tell me that Alicia and May did this to you?" Adams questioned in disbelief.
"What's the use of me explaining myself when I'm pretty sure you're not going to believe any word I say."
"Just tell me what happened, Evie." Adams urged.
"Do you really wanna know what happened?" Evie questioned in annoyance. "Your darling fiancee accused me of adding shrimps to your daughter's soup, she doesn't even have any evidence and yet she still accused me of being the one who tried to kill Diane by adding shrimps to the soup she made for her yesterday!"
"What?"
"You know what Adams, I bet she's only doing all this just to get rid of me, I really can't believe that she would go to the extent of trying to harm her own daughter just to prove a point. Well I told her I didn't do it and also reminded her that she couldn't just accuse me without any evidence, your darling fiancee didn't believe me and kept on insisting that I'm the one who tried to kill her daughter yesterday."
"You see this here?" She pointed at her face. "This is what her damn friend May did to me, all because they both believe that I'm the one who added shrimps to Diane's food, May pounced on me yesterday and did this to me. If it hadn't been for you then I would have filed a case of assault, but I decide to let things go all because of you Adams, and all because I didn't want to cause any problem." She said and then she began crying.
"I really don't know what I did to deserve this kind of hatred from Alicia, if she doesn't want me here then she can just say so and I'll leave quietly, why treat me this badly, no one has ever been this mean to me Adams, no one at all.'' She sobbed even harder. "Now this is going to get in the way of my work, I have an important shoot tomorrow but I can't go because someone decides to ruin my damn face!" She half yelled.
Adams couldn't believe his ears, he didn't want to believe that Alicia would take things to far, but seeing Evie in the state that she's in and her crying this bad, it only made him even more furious to think that Alicia and May would take things to far and harass his guest like this.
In anger, he took Evie's hand and led her to Diane's room, Alicia has got some serious questions to answer because he must get to the bottom of this matter. If she doesn't want Evie here then it's fine, but dragging Diane into all this mess is something he's not going to take.
Evie could only smirk mischievously, she had seen when Adams returned because she was keeping an eye out for him, her coming downstairs was also part of the plan because she needs to get to him first before Alicia. Now, she can only pray and hope her plan goes as planned, if everything worked in her favor then it won't be hard to get Adams to throw Alicia out of this house and she can have him all to herself.
"Ha!"
