Chapter 3
NOVEMBER
Waking up in a completely different room was one thing; waking up in a completely different room with no recollection of how you got there was another, and it was the worst kind.
I lifted the blanket from my body to reveal my naked body. NAKED BODY? Don't get me wrong, I'm no virgin Mary but nor am I Mia Khalifa. I just didn't expect to see my naked body on a strange bed with banging headache.
Happy fucking birthday to me.
Then, I recalled the night before when my friends and I left the house to party our stress away. I recalled drinking and dancing. I recalled hands on me, but there was no face to the hands. I recalled the amazing husky voice that told me to check out the rooms, but there was no face. I recalled following mystery guy up here. I recalled the way he kissed me like his life depended on it.
"You're so wet for me."
Oh my God, I should be thinking of who I had sex with, not what the sex was like, but I couldn't help it.
"Oh fuck, you're so tight."
Okay, that's enough.
Looking around the room, it was just as amazing as I thought it would be. It was painted white, and it was big. There wasn't much to it as it was a club room: it had a queen-sized bed, a brown bedside table, and the restroom.
One other thing I noticed was the empty room. I was the only living thing in it. What did I expect? That I'd see this amazing Adonis hovering over me? Smiling and telling me what a nice time he had? Yes.
I suck.
I grabbed my clothes that were littered like rags on the floor. It was like picking up what I had left of my pride.
Well, this was the ideal one-night stand.
I took out my phone and was greeted with seven missed calls and 10 messages all from my friends asking me where I was.
I quickly called Sally, telling her that I was at the club. "I'm coming to get you," she said and hung up.
I went into the restroom to wash my face after I put my clothes on.
Just then, my phone rang, It was Sally. "I'm outside," she said, and I hung up.
"Well, someone looks like she had a good time," Sally teased.
"Abeg allow me, hunger dey kill me for here," (Please leave me alone, I'm very hungry) I said, hoping she’d drop the topic, and she did, but only for a short time. When we got home, she continued, backed up by our other friends.
After a long shower, the three girls came into my room like lost puppies.
"Why you like dey keep people for suspense?" (Why do you like keeping people in suspense?) Nifise whined.
"Just tell us everything, and we'll leave you alone," Mandy cooed.
, "I'm not going to waste my time telling you three about a night I vaguely remember," I said adjusting my high-waisted Ankara flay skirt. That wasn't entirely a lie; I didn't remember the face of the person who fucked me senseless.
"We stay in the same house, and I'm not going anywhere, so let's leave it till when everyone is back from work. Then, I'll tell," I added and walked out of my room to the kitchen leaving them there.
"You still haven't received the call?" Sally asked from behind me. I turned to her immediately and shook my head. It had been almost a week since I went for that interview, and I had not gotten a call yet. Maybe my interview was not as good as I thought it was even though I made the man smile.
"Nope," I smiled. I was a little bit pained. Not that I was jealous of my friends for getting jobs or anything, no, I was just pained at myself, wallowing in self-pity that I couldn't get what they had. What made it hard for me? Why was I so different?
"You're making that face again," Sally walked closer to me and hugged me. I was highly emotional, and any show of affection like this always made me tear up even though it wasn't supposed to be so.
"You'll get the job you want. Don't think too much. You're smart and beautiful; things will always work out for you.'' Sally rubbed my back. I nodded my head and started laughing to drive away the awkwardness that followed.
"I'm hungry, sha," I laughed. Sally shook her head and walked out of the kitchen, so I could make my breakfast.
After breakfast, and all my friends left for their various jobs while I sat home like the stay-at-home friend I was to clean the house and make dinner. My phone started ringing. It was an unknown number calling; hopefully, the call I was waiting for.
"Hello, good morning," the somewhat familiar voice said.
"Good morning," I replied.
"Am I speaking to Miss November Tete?" the caller asked.
"Yes, this is she," I answered.
"I'm Mr. John Danjuma from KK Industries, and I'm calling regarding a job offer given to you in the company," the man said. When I say I almost shit myself! I was so excited I could cry.
"Apparently, you were given a secretary position for the head of finance in the company, but we had a little issue, so now you'll be working for the CEO." What?
I had gotten a job and for the finance person? And now the CEO? I didn't need the CEO! I wanted the finance person.
"I'm really grateful for this job, but is there no way I could go back to working for the head of finance?" I asked him.
"Sadly, no. You were handpicked by the CEO himself. If you accept the job, please come by the company tomorrow at 8 AM sharp," the man said. He didn't even bother waiting for my response, and he hung up.
I was handpicked? But why? Why?
