Rebecca’s POV
Ever since Gabriel had been arrested, I felt better within myself. Mandena was no place for a criminal. Such a criminal who had the mind to hire to kill not one person but persons just so that he wanted them gone?
I was pleased to watch the news, to watch as he was being moved to prison in the large bus down the isolated road and forever be gone being punished for his crime.
It was at this moment, I knew my revenge was over. Now I needed to move on with my life.
I was married to Gabriel, he divorced me and attempted to kill me. I lost my mother, I vouched for revenge. And now that he has been moved away? It was time to give love a second chance.
So many others would say I was a damaged woman. A woman who had gone through mindset pollution. A woman who could, because of a revenge against her ex-husband, create business entities to strike him. Such a woman might be avoided by men.
But what if I made them understand it was not all what it seemed? And that I was a good person both on the inside and on the outside?
Even with my wealth, I was ready to be humble if my future husband, the one who would love me for me, had nothing of wealth himself. I do not care about money. I care about the heart indeed.
In that motive, Natasha has linked me up with a man from her college.
Since Natasha was a nerd while in school, she had a study group where they all studied for tests and examinations together, and they all came out in flying colors together.
“Micah is a good guy and always respectful. You can give him a try,” Natasha said to me. And which was why it led us here.
I was sitting in this restaurant waiting for him because a date had been fixed between us.
The date was supposed to start by 7 p.m., and it was already 7:10 p.m., and he was yet to be here.
Though while the date was being fixed, he had suggested coming to take me from home, like a proper date. But I had rejected it because I had a business meeting, and from there, I would only need to change and come right to the restaurant.
“7:20 p.m.,” I breathed out lowly, checking what time it was from my golden wristwatch.
7:30 p.m. “I am so sorry, I was hooked up in the traffic,” he said as he finally arrived, dragging the chair in front of me loudly on the floor so that every other customer in the restaurant was forced to look our way.
That was embarrassing. But it was something I ignored. He was, of course, tired from the look of his face. And that he was late because of traffic? It was understandable.
He looked in his mid-40s. His bold face, cute. His hair, blond. His eyes, brown, and he was wearing a suit. He looked pretty much like someone I could be in a relationship with, but with his dressing? I was not sure.
His suit was wrinkled, and he did not button it down.
This was a date; he should have prepared himself, dressing better for this day.
Moreover, a man who was coming to a date and didn’t button his suit and whose suit was wrinkled was not an organized man. Maybe not all of them. But it was something I had seen in the past with men before everything started with Gabriel. But giving the benefit of a doubt, I didn’t take much into this.
“So, what are we having?” he smiled at me, leaned toward the table a bit, and asked.
I felt this question was too early. Aside from the fact that he explained why he came late, he should have spoken some more to me. Like asking me how I was, how long I had been staying here. But he just went straight to, What are we having?
“Well, anything you want is fine,” I answered.
Though I was not all-around okay with the question he asked, I smiled back at him.
Instantly, he whistled at the waiter very loudly, forcing every other customer in the restaurant to look our way once more.
This was a high-end restaurant. Things like noise were not allowed here. And judging by Micah’s behavior in this place, should I say he did not care about the rules here, or he just hadn’t been somewhere like this before?
I was still in this thought when my phone suddenly vibrated.
I picked it up from the table and looked at the notification at the top of the screen.
“Natasha,” I thought to myself, seeing her name on my phone.
And tapping right on her name, How is your date going? I read the text from her.
Awful! I texted back.
Micah can be like that. Be patient and let’s see, she wrote back to me. And with this,
Okay, I answered.
The waiter getting to us, Micah looked at me and winked. I watched as he pointed at different foods on the menu given to him. And just then, the waiter bowed at him.
“Your order will be ready soon, sir.”
“What about you, ma?” he turned to me and bowed.
“Just a sparkling water with lemon, please,” I said.
“Of course. Anything else?”
I glanced at the menu briefly, then shook my head with a polite smile. “No, that will be all for now.”
With this, the waiter returned, and there was a deafening, awkward silence between Micah and me.
He said nothing to me other than tapping his fingers on the table, humming, and shaking his head. Looking from side to side, too, as though he could not wait for his order to finally come.
“So, tell me about you?” I asked, not wanting to cope with the silence anymore.
But he just smiled. Then he said, “I will share everything about me later. But first, I need to feed.” He continued drumming his fingers on the table and smiled even broader when his order came.
A mountain of loaded nachos dripping with cheese and sour cream landed in front of him. No sooner had that been placed than a basket of warm buttered bread rolls followed.
Then came the full rack of barbecue ribs glistening with sauce, accompanied by a heaping portion of mac and cheese and a mound of garlic butter mashed potatoes. Just when I thought he was done, the waiter slid in a plate of golden, crispy onion rings.
“Are you... expecting company?” I forced myself to ask, finding it hard to comprehend the reason for all this food.
Was this all for him alone?
