Chapter 37: My Beautiful Kai
Omniscient Narrative
In the following days, Kai felt himself spiraling deeper into paranoia.
Aries began following him in earnest.
There were instances when he caught a glimpse of Aries's distinct hair, flared jacket, or even the sinister smile positioned awkwardly on his face in the reflection of a shop window as Kai passed.
Each encounter cracked the fragile shell of control Kai painstakingly maintained.
He couldn't tell anyone. What would he even say? "I'm being stalked by my son's friend, and we had a one-night stand"? The shame coursed through him like poison, and he found himself increasingly isolated.
He had dug himself into a deep pit and it felt like they were covering it up, burying him alive.
All day, he could think of nothing but the exchange, Aries was meticulous in his digital footprint—carefully organizing a facade of innocent friendliness while building a collection of unflattering snapshots taken without consent.
No matter how many times Kai tried to deny the connection, Aries's presence hovered like a bitter shadow, nothing more than a whisper charged with unfinished desires.
Kai's attempts to distance himself fell flat. Aries had a way of appearing at the most inopportune moments—after Pilates class, at the pet shop when he was picking up food for his new dog that surprisingly Aries got him, even when he would visit Austin, Aries was there, he was always there.
...
"Let me show you something," Aries had said one day, stepping into Kai's path as he tried to leave the café quickly. His voice was low, dangerous. "You won't want to miss this." His eyes held mischief in them as they bore into the eyes of the older man.
"What is it?" Kai asked, dread rising in his throat.
To his horror, Aries produced several photographs from his coat pocket, waving them like cards in a game—pictures he never thought he would be seeing.
They were snapshots of Kai taken doing unholy acts, a long lens capturing moments of his vulnerability. "These are just a sampling of what's at my disposal. You wouldn't want these shared, would you?"
"Why are you doing this?" Kai had began to tear up as he stared at the taller man, his heart pounding so fast he thought it would escape through his chest.
"Don't act so naive, my beautiful Kai" he said as he moved closer to Kai, his hand taking the smaller man's chin lifting it up to make him look directly in his eyes. "I don't like seeing you sad" he pouted his lips.
"Then stop doing all this" Kai said as a tear rolled down his cheek.
"You and I know that's not happening" Aries said as he gave Kai a large smile.
The implications of those words settled coldly in Kai's chest as he pushed the younger man away, sobering up, a heavy stone dropping deep within him. "Stop this, Aries. You're crossing a line."
Irritation sparked in Aries's eyes, and he took a step closer, that predatory gleam returning. "I'm not crossing a line, Kai. I'm simply reminding you of where we stand. You have something I want—your silence, your compliance."
"Compliance with what?" Kai asked, heart pounding in his chest. "If you think I'll let you control me, you're wrong."
For a moment, Aries watched him, expression inscrutable and sharp. "Would you rather have me release these photos to the world? Imagine Austin's reaction. Or worse—what your family might think?"
Realization crashed into Kai's awareness like a violent wave, and the fear settled in tight around his heart. "Don't you dare!" he shouted, the words echoing in the empty street around them. "You're delusional!"
"Delusional?" Aries laughed, the sound eerie and thrilling at once. "Get a grip, Kai. You still think you have control over this situation. You don't. I'm giving you a choice—either we continue this... relationship, or I unleash all of it. I want you to make up your mind before the weekend."
.
With dread settling deep in his bones, Kai spent the next few days spiraling into a storm of anxiety. Each tick of the clock reminded him of Aries's insistence on "the weekend." As much as he wanted to ignore the threat, the reality was that he couldn't escape it.
The images haunted him; they crawled across his mind during work meetings, crept into his dreams at night, and lay heavy on his conscience. Did it really matter that one moment of weakness had propelled him into this darkness?
Kai attempted to report the threatening behavior to the authorities, but words formed into nothing once he realized how ridiculous he sounded.
Here he was, bruised from a brief encounter, terrified of his son's friend who, despite everything, was still charming, even alluring in minutes of weak resolve.
'Stay quiet, or it'll be worse for you' A voice echoed in his head, a gnawing reminder that he had willingly crossed the line into a spiral of chaos, and the repercussions would come crashing down like a house of cards.
.
By Saturday, fear had become suffocating. Kai drove himself to exhaustion at a photo shoot he had , eyes scanning every corner of each room, waiting for some sign of Aries's return, he knew with his Aries would show up everywhere he wouldn't be shocked to see the younger man there.
The weekend weighed heavily upon him, igniting worry that thrummed in his ears. He felt isolated, confined, and utterly alone.
In the late evening, the sun had nearly slipped below the horizon when Kai finally succumbed to the tension, trying to shake off the residue of dread that had clung to him all day.
He stepped out for a quick drive, hoping that a change in scenery might grant him some fleeting peace of mind. The streets felt dark and empty, shadows pooling at every corner.
As Kai parked the car and stepped onto a sidewalk leading to a small park, he felt the hair on the back of his neck prickle.
Something or rather someone was watching him
The sound of footsteps followed him—not just one pair, but several, as if Aries had gathered a legion of shadows eager to torment him.
Panic surged through Kai, and he quickened his pace, sprinting toward his car, the sound of laughter—dark and familiar—echoing faintly from behind.
Just as he reached the driver's side, he turned and faced Aries, standing just outside the circle of light cast by the streetlamp, a wicked grin illuminating his features.
'My God' Kai mentally screamed,
how did he always manage to be right where Kai was?
"Why are you walking around late at night" Aries's voice dripped with mockery, sultry and warm.
"Leave me alone!" Kai shouted, breathless, panic flushing through him as he tried to control his breathing. "Why do you keep doing this?"
Aries stepped closer, every inch of him radiating a manic energy he couldn't ignore. "Because i need you to see the bigger picture, Kai. I'm the best thing that's happened to you since your boring life settled into a dull routine. You can pretend to ignore it, but you can't erase it."
"You're so fucking wrong!" Kai shouted, his heart racing as he gestured toward Aries. "You think you can just manipulate me with your threats? You don't get to fucking dictate my life, you can't just fucking enter my life and start ruling over it!"
"Dictate? Rule? Oh, my love, that's cute," Aries purred, inching forward, the predatory gleam growing brighter in his eyes. "You're not in control of anything. You're just playing a role, hoping I'll get bored and walk away. But the truth is, I won't be your distraction, I'll be your pretty obsession. You brought this upon yourself Kai. You made your fucking choice!!"
Kai recoiled at the implications of those words, dread pooling at the bottom of his stomach. Would he really go through with it?.
"I'll make you see your fears, acknowledge them," Aries continued, his voice low and momentarily tender. "I'll show you how much you truly want me. And when you do... everything unnecessary shatters away."
"What are you planning to do?" Kai's voice trembled, the raw heaviness in his chest growing unbearable.
The smile on Aries's face widened, their differences stark against the shadows around them. "This is not just about playing games anymore. This is about me and you...my beautiful Kai"
