Chapter 97 PREGNANT?

AUTHOR’S POV
The warm glow of the vanity lights cast a soft radiance over the room as Adeline applied the final touches of her makeup.
She ran her hands down the smooth fabric of her short, form-fitting dress, appreciating how it accentuated her curves in just the right way.
The deep color contrasted beautifully with her skin, making her look effortlessly elegant yet subtly seductive.
Eva, standing by the mirror adjusting her earrings, turned to look at Adeline and let out an approving hum.
“Damn, Adeline, you look stunning.”
A small chuckle escaped Adeline’s lips as she twirled slightly, checking her reflection.
“You think so?”
Eva grinned. “Oh, I know so. If you weren’t my best friend, I’d probably be jealous.”
Adeline smirked.
“That’s what I like to hear.”
Eva walked closer, giving her an exaggerated once-over.
“Seriously, though. You’re glowing tonight. Did something happen?”
Adeline scoffed, rolling her eyes.
“Oh, please. I think it’s just the extra sleep I finally got after… everything.”
Eva smirked, crossing her arms.
“Mmm, or maybe a certain someone is making you glow?”
Adeline’s brows lifted, playing along.
“Oh? And who might that be?”
Eva wiggled her brows. “ Luciano?”
Adeline laughed, shaking her head.
“Oh my god, Eva, stop.”
“I mean, come on! You two have not been spending so much time together. And he’s so possessive over you and jealous. That man looks at you like you’re his entire world.”
Adeline sighed dramatically.
“We’ve all been through a lot, Eva. He just… wants to keep me safe and he do loves me but I don’t know-”
Eva smirked knowingly.
“Mmmhmm. And Charles just wants to keep me safe, right?”
Adeline’s eyes sparkled with mischief as she turned to fully face her friend.
“Oh? Now we’re talking about Charles, huh?”
Eva’s face turned slightly pink, but she tried to act indifferent.
“I mean… I guess.”
Adeline gasped mockingly.
“Eva. Is there something you’re not telling me?”
Eva sighed, dramatically flopping onto the bed.
“I don’t know. There’s definitely something between us. I can feel it. But he hasn’t taken any step, and I don’t know if I should.”
Adeline sat beside her, smirking.
“Oh, please. Just kiss him and get it over with.”
Eva gaped at her.
“Excuse me? Are you insane? I can’t just kiss Charles!”
Adeline shrugged.
“Why not? Maybe he’s waiting for you to make the first move.”
Eva groaned, covering her face.
“You’re impossible.”
Adeline chuckled.
“I’m just saying, sometimes men need a little push. You know how these mafia guys are—all dominant and in control, but the moment they like someone, they suddenly forget how to function.”
Eva peeked through her fingers.
“You think he actually likes me?”
Adeline gave her a pointed look.
“Eva. He’s been glued to your side, protective as hell, and literally glares at any man who even looks at you. What do you think?”
Eva sighed, shaking her head with a small smile.
“Maybe… I’ll think about it.”
Adeline winked.
“That’s my girl.”
They continued laughing and teasing each other while finishing up their hair and accessories. But just as Adeline was about to pick up her perfume, a strange feeling twisted in her stomach.
Her smile faltered as an uncomfortable nausea settled in, and before she could say a word, she suddenly felt the overwhelming urge to throw up.
Her eyes widened, and without warning, she bolted towards the bathroom.
“Adeline?!” Eva’s concerned voice followed as she rushed after her.
Adeline barely made it in time, collapsing to her knees as she emptied her stomach into the toilet.
The nausea hit hard and fast, leaving her breathless as she clutched the cool porcelain.
Eva was immediately beside her, holding back her hair and rubbing gentle circles on her back.
“Hey, hey, breathe. What’s wrong?”
Adeline coughed, wiping her mouth as she leaned against the wall, trying to catch her breath.
“I… I don’t know. Maybe I ate something bad.”
Eva frowned.
“Are you sure? This isn’t normal, Adeline. Have you been feeling sick before today?”
Adeline hesitated, her mind racing.
Now that Eva mentioned it… she had been feeling a little off lately. More tired than usual. Less appetite some days, but then uncontrollable hunger on others. And now this nausea?
“I don’t know,” she admitted quietly.
“Maybe it’s just stress.”
Eva studied her carefully.
“Do you need to see a doctor? Maybe you caught something.”
Adeline shook her head quickly.
“No, no, I’ll be fine. Let’s just get ready.”
Eva didn’t look convinced, but she helped Adeline up and guided her back to the bed.
As Adeline sat there, waiting for the dizziness to pass, her eyes caught her reflection in the mirror.
Her gaze instinctively dropped to her stomach, and for the first time, she noticed something.
She looked… different.
Maybe not drastically, but her body felt softer, her stomach not as flat as before. It wasn’t noticeable to others, but she could tell. And now, with the nausea?
A thought entered her mind, uninvited but impossible to ignore.
Could I be pregnant?
Her heart pounded at the possibility.
No. No, it wasn’t possible. Was it?
Eva noticed her sudden silence and tilted her head.
“Adeline? What’s wrong?”
Adeline quickly masked her expression and shook her head.
“Nothing,” she said, forcing a smile.
“I’m ready to go.”
Eva narrowed her eyes slightly but let it go.
Adeline took a deep breath, forcing away the whirlwind of thoughts in her mind. Whatever this was… she’d figure it out later.
For now, they had a dinner to attend.
And with that, both girls stepped out of the room, unaware of how much this night would change everything.
