Chapter 17: Baron
Baron's Pov.
"Is this seat taken?"
My attention immediately was drawn to the woman in front of me, and I was not surprised to see Hilary in front of me. I'm currently at the coffee shop near the company, and I'm not expecting her to come by.
I ignored her presence because I was not in the mood to deal with her today, even though I made the promise to Abigail that I would handle her on my own. Hilary sat on the seat in front of me and smiled while staring at me.
"Stop smiling like an insane woman because you're making me feel uncomfortable," I said without looking at her. "Abigail was invited to the party yesterday and I didn't see you with her. Have you two fighting lately?"
"Why are you so interested in knowing what is going on in our relationship? Deal with your problem and that is your divorce."
She chuckled as if what I said was some sort of a joke. I exhale deeply because this woman is not going to leave me alone, which means I'm required to entertain her even if I am against it.
"What brings you here?" I inquired, focusing my attention on her. Hilary shrugged before placing her hand on mine, rubbing it. I looked at her hand on mine before taking it away, "It might be surprising for you not to see me at that party, but I'm not invited."
"So you and Abigail are having a problem. I'm always right and now you're mine."
I chuckled, "Why would you say that?"
"Well, apart from the fact that I'm better with her and I can make you happy. You will need me to move on, especially since I know how I can handle a man whose heart is broken."
"What if I let you do that?" I asked. I want to know something and if risking being with this girl is worth a shot, then I will do it.
Hilary leans closer, smirking at me. "Will you? Hmm..."
I grinned, "How far can you go to have me in your bed?"
"Anything."
Her grin caught my interest and it means my sacrifice will be worth it, especially since I know she's using her body for her husband. I am not stupid for thinking she divorced that annoying man, they're up to something.
"Anyway, will you invite me to dinner tonight to get to know each other?" She asked, trying to make me invite her to dinner.
"It depends. Will you accept it if I did?"
She smiled broadly and replied, "Of course. I never turn down a handsome man like you."
"Great to hear, I'll be for you at the restaurant."
"Hold on," she stopped me and scoffed, "Wait for me? Aren't you going to pick me up? Don't you know how to be romantic on a date?"
"I do know how to be romantic, but we're not going on a date. You told me to invite you to dinner and I'm doing what you want, so why would I pick you up and waste my gas?" That answer made her twitch. She was annoyed by my answer, and that's exactly what she needed to feel.
"Fine. I'll drive myself," she stated.
"I want to invite you to my birthday," she handed me an invitation letter and I accepted it. She was smiling at me again, so I opened it and read its contents. "I didn't know you were celebrating your birthday."
"Of course, I am, Baron. Why wouldn't I?" She laughed softly.
I turned to her and asked, "Why?"
"What do you mean why?"
"Why are you inviting me to this celebration? I'm still married to Abigail and our divorce isn't rolling yet because I'm giving her space."
"Oh, don't you know?"
"Know what?" I asked, confused.
"Abigail and my ex-husband already getting along, which means you need to find yourself a new woman to get revenge. I am the perfect choice you could ever have, Baron. Just think of it. If Abigail saw us together, she would leave my party with jealousy! Isn't it fun?!" Hilary's hilarious plan made me smirk, she's clever.
However, Gerald and Hilary are both stupid. I didn't know they immediately believed us, and any moment we were going to have their trust. I only need to endure being near this woman, after that, I'll dump her.
"Abigail is invited too?"
"Yes!" She happily answered and added, "She is invited with my husband and you two will see each other at the party, so you better not humiliate me in front of them."
"Quick question, Hilary."
"Yes?"
"How did you find out about my divorce with Abigail? We haven't told anyone yet."
"It was easy, Baron. Abigail told me about it! I know Abigail is not the type of woman who'll tell me about her problem with her husband, but she tells it to my face. After she saw us in that situation, she immediately filed for a divorce. Isn't it great? I'm single and you're single!"
Abigail didn't mention this to me after I moved out, and now I'm hearing this from Hilary. So, Abby was making a move without letting me know and even if I promised not to interfere, I couldn't let her make decisions that would put her at risk.
I stood up and was about to leave when she stopped me, "Where are you going?"
"None of your business."
I rushed outside and hopped into my car, I started the engine and drove away. I may be crossing the line, but Abigail should have told me about it because I'm still part of this plan.
I dial Abby's number but she's not picking up and it made me worried. I drive faster, I have to see her.
@ McAdams' Company.
I rushed inside the building and searched for an available elevator, and I found one. I got in and pressed the fifth floor where her office was while I couldn't stop my heart from beating faster and thinking bad things.
But as soon as the elevator hit the fifth floor, I got out quickly and approached the door but the moment I opened it, I was exposed to a very unexpected event in my life. Abigail is on top of Gerald and their faces are inches away, his hands are on her waist. I don't want to think of some unnecessary events, but this event was enough to hurt me.
"Abigail," I murmured, causing her to turn at me and Abigail instantly got up and got rid of the dust that clung to her coat. "Baron," she muttered before approaching me. "What was I just witnessed?"
"It's not what you think it is, Baron. I tripped and fell to Gerald—"
"Seriously, Abigail? You fall to him? We need to talk, Abby."
"Sure."
My eyes darted to Gerald who couldn't hide that grin on his face. I clenched my fist in rage and wanted to punch him until that grin was gone.
"What are you still doing here, moron?" I said directly to him.
"Are you talking to me, Baron?" He pointed at himself. "Who else am I talking to? The wall?
"Who are you calling a moron?"
"Uh, you?"
"Baron, please." Abigail sighed before facing Gerald and said, "Leave us alone, Gerald. My husband and I need to speak."
Gerald begins walking towards us and bumps into me intentionally, but I hold myself since I came here for Abigail, not for him.
"Have a seat, Baron."
"No, Abigail. You need to tell me what is going on and why do I have to discover from your dear step-sister about our divorce? I thought it was just a plan, even if we're not even married."
"Exactly, Baron. What are you so mad about?"
I scoffed, "So I'm nothing to you now?"
"No, Baron. You mean so much to me but you are reacting like a jealous husband. Besides, I thought we already made a deal. Gerald and I need to be close to each other until I find information that can drag him down."
"Why?"
"Because I know Gerald has something to do with my father's death and I will not let him get away from it," she explained.
I take a deep breath, calming my furious and jealous heart from overthinking. I wanted my girl to be independent, and now she's doing what I told her to do I'm against it.
I'm such a stupid person.
Abigail held my hand, showing me that no matter what happened she would not return to that man's life. "This is my only chance and if I lose this opportunity, Baron. My dad will not get the justice he deserves, especially since I discovered that he died from poison."
"I'm sorry, Abigail. I'm such an idiot for being so childish and letting my anger take over. I didn't think of that before rushing here."
"I understand, Baron. But what you saw isn't what you think it was. In order to get Gerald's attention, I need to participate in his game and be a doll."
I touched her cheek and replied, "I understand. I'm sorry for my absurd actions. I shouldn't have done that."
"Hilary is into you and she wants to use you as her prop to annoy me, especially since she saw how Gerald became desperate to be with me again. Get her attention, and I will do the same."
I nodded, "Together, we will have the victory we want."
"Yes. We're dragging them down. I will find all the information about my father's death, and use it against them."
"And I will help you until we get the justice. I will be on your side and that's not a promise, Abigail. I will do it for you and our son."
