Chapter 48 Chapter 48) Cheating on her?
Lucas arrived in the living room, but the person he met there was his mother, who was sitting on the sofa and had a worried look on her face.
He was surprised after seeing that.
Was this not his mother who woke him and Leo from sleep earlier this morning with a bright smile on her face as she invited them for breakfast? So, why has her face turned out to be like this?
“What happened to you, mom? Who dared offend you?”. He asked her, and looked ready to throw a punch at someone's face.
He went ahead and sat beside her.
“Mom?”. He called her, because it seemed like her attention was somewhere else.
But strange... she didn't reply to him until he touched her, causing her to flinch.
“Ack. You scared me, Lucas”. She breathed fast, with her hand placed on her chest as she said to him.
Her heart was pounding, and she was patting her chest to see if it would calm down.
“What is wrong, mom? Is something on your mind? Is there something that is bothering you?”. He asked her, before he added, “Where is Dad?”.
Hearing her son's question, Miranda could not control the expression on her face and frowned a little bit, also biting her lower lips in the process.
Seeing that, Lucas understood that something must have gone wrong with his mother and his father, hence, the look on her face.
Just then, Leo arrived in the living room, and the first question he asked, even after noticing the look on his mother's face, was this, “Where is Dad?”.
“You have got to be kidding me right now”. Lucas shook his head in disbelief and said, and as he wanted to stand up, obviously ready to confront Lucas, Miranda grabbed his hand and stopped him from doing so.
At the same minute, she replied to Leo, “Your father should be in his study room. He refused to eat and said he needed to work on something important”.
“Okay”. Leo said with a nod, before he left the living room, leaving Lucas speechless.
“What is his problem? He did not even ask if you were alright. Mom, you should not have stopped me. Ever since you told him about Kate, he has not been in his right senses. I don't understand why he was so obsessed”. Lucas said and was annoyed.
“Obsessed with Kate?”. Miranda raised her brows as she asked him.
“I don't know. I was just saying”. He admitted, before he stood up. “I should check up on him and see what he is up to”.
After saying that, he left the living room.
Miranda wanted to go after him, as she was curious, but she halted after her mind returned to Gabriel, her husband.
She did not understand why he was drifting far away from her little by little, to the extent she felt that the gap between them had widened.
Just a few minutes ago, she was very delighted about his return to the mansion, as he rarely returned home.
And whenever she told him that she missed him and wanted him by her side, he scolded her for being selfish.
But, later on, he would call and apologize to her for raising his voice at her.
That was how the past few days had been for her. Making her wonder, did he not love her anymore?
She had thought about that countless times, because she remembered those times when he could not bear to part from her or leave her by herself.
Why had things turned out differently? That was what she didn't understand, because he refused her with a blank look on his face when she invited him for lunch after he returned to the mansion.
He simply told her that he did not have an appetite, and that he did not want to be bothered, as he had something important to work on.
That confused her greatly. If he had something important to work on, why did he bother himself coming to the mansion?
He should have remained wherever he was and only returned to her after he was done with whatever he wanted to work on.
Why did he have to bring work back to the mansion? Why did he have to bring work back to their home, where they ought to forget about everything else and focus on themselves?
“Has he stopped loving me, just like he stopped loving that woman?”. She muttered and felt chilled.
“No. No. That's impossible. That can't happen to me. I won't allow that to happen to me”. Her hands shook as she said, before she started to bite her fingernails.
She felt very insecure. And it became worse as a thought came to her mind without any warnings.
‘What if he is seeing another woman, just like he had done when he was married to that bitch?!’.
Listening to a voice tell her that caused her to rise from the sofa almost immediately.
“No”. She muttered, before she quickly ran out of the living room and went upstairs, as she wanted to eavesdrop and see what was happening between her husband and their sons.
Though on the way, she could not stop telling herself this, “There is no way he would ever cheat on me”
“Stop lying to me”.
“He can never find a lady who is like me out there. He can never find a lady who is better than me”.
“I am simply overreacting and nothing more”.
