Chapter 99: The End of Victoria
Lane’s POV
How dare that bitch assume that I gave up my baby? My anger at her words made my wolf furious. He wanted to rip her head off her shoulders right now. But I couldn’t do it. I promised Evie, none of us would come out as wolves tonight. Gracie still doesn’t know our secret. It would be best to tell her at a more appropriate time. Right now, I am just trying to calm back down from what Victoria had said.
Yea, she is a real saint. Trying to use the excuse of wanting to save jobs at her husbands business. In reality, they would still have their jobs once it is sold. They cannot fire everyone at the company at the same time. Some would be replaced, but those are usually the people at the top. Not the people who actually do the bulk of the work. She is just trying to gain sympathy from people that didn’t know how that worked. I know, I am a business man too. Maybe I will come up and buy it, when it is on its last leg, at a good price. I cannot resist trying to piss her off. I have to mention it.
“Victoria, I looked into your husband’s business today, after we ran into you. I think with the right leadership, it can be successful again. I think that I might even acquire it. I am thinking that here in about four to five months, the price for it, will surely drop as there is already blood in the water now. Wouldn’t that be ironic that in your effort to take my daughter away and kill her, to try to save it. Wouldn’t it be funny if I bought it for her? Showed Evie how to make it successful again? I almost don’t want to kill you now, so you could live to see that. To know that YOU caused all of this. The business crashed and burned, and it was because of your own decisions. After this scandal hits, I am sure the timeline will be even quicker. I doubt your husband will be able to wait for more that two, to three, months to offload it. Your stock is going to crash pretty low after this shitshow all gets out. You have brought about the very thing you were trying so hard to prevent. How does that feel?” I called out to her.
Numerous shots rang out towards me. The men with me already knew to stay behind the large trees we were hiding behind. There was no way for her to hit us from where we were hiding. I have been counting, I saw the gun when she shot the decoy. I knew what she had, and that it had a regular magazine in it. She is a small woman, with small hands. The extended magazine would have been clearly evident. She had only 15 shots. She has now used them all up. I just don’t know if she has another magazine in her SUV, for her to change out though. I will need to taunt her again to see if she fires again. She is furious that her plans fell. She is in a full-blown rage right now.
I looked up at Lee, who was set up already to take the shot if we needed him too. We all knew that it was a matter of time now. Lee had told me that Evie did have both the keys to the SUV, and Victoria’s cell phone. Jake and Charles had both told me that where we were at, that no one would be coming. When people heard shots like this around here. They assume that people are trying to kill gators, or wild hogs. They don’t worry about it, unless it gets close to their homes. Jake told me that the people who live out here, don’t call the police. We are not worried about unexpected visitors. Jake has warriors stationed a few miles away. We will be notified, if the police do end up coming our way. That would only happen if they heard the shots themselves. We will have plenty of time to get out of here and leave her to be found here if that does occur.
“I am sorry Victoria. I really wasn’t trying to piss you off. I was just letting you know how much I appreciated getting a pretty solid company, for cheap. That is how the business world works. I am sure that you and James have to have a little nest egg built up. I mean you cannot have pissed away all his hard earnings over the years. Plus, my daughter is going to need to have a good job, in the future. I will show her the ropes. Maybe start her out easy with a cushy V.P. job before I let her become the CEO. She can’t just start at the very top, she needs to learn. She will probably want Gracie to get a job there too. I am sure that Gracie will do well there too. Her intelligence is evident. I am pretty sure it was the reason why you gave her the internship. I am excited just thinking about the possibilities of it. Those two girls have a very exciting future. I cannot wait to see all they do with their lives,” I called back out to Victoria.
With our enhanced hearing we hear the clicks coming from the gun. She is out of bullets. A human wouldn’t be able to have heard it. She doesn’t realize who she is dealing with right now. I see the men look over at me and I nod at them. They knew as well as I did that it was over for her, she was done. I told one of Lee’s men near me to let Evie know to lock the SUV. Victoria doesn’t need to prolong this. We are not going to play cat and mouse with her. There is nothing more she can do against us. We all heard the doors lock, and Victoria screamed out in frustration again. She was locked out of her own car, and she knew that she was at our mercy.
She was furious and started screaming into the night. “Evie, I should have killed you when you first got here that night. I don’t know how you came out of the chloroform so quickly. You should have been out the whole time. Our fighting with you, cost me everything you little bitch. I only wish I could go back to that night, and I had my gun with me. You wouldn’t have been running around messing up my plans after that. I would have killed that wolf, and then you. You would have been done for, and there would have been nothing that you could have done about it. You have ruined me, and for what? Because I took your friend? You people need to realize that the loss of one person is justified, if it is for the greater good. I was doing what needed to be done. What HAD to be done. You all are the ones in the wrong, not me. I hope that you all die a miserable death!” Victoria called out into the night.
Growls again rang into the night and I watched as Jake's wolf stepped into view less than a minute later. I had the same thought. I was going to kill this bitch myself. I knew when I heard that roar of fury, that it was his right to deal with her. She was his mate, and I am sure that it hurt him to hear what she had said. The fact that she was perfectly serious about it, had infuriated me as well. She deserved what she was going to get out of this. I know that we had all agreed to not show our wolf form. Evie wanted to ease Gracie into it, and not scare her. Jake’s wolf, Canyon, was very intimidating. Victoria mentioning the wolf stopping her from killing Evie before, had her introducing the fact that they were out here. I could not blame him at all for it. Victoria deserved whatever she was about to receive.
Victoria screamed, and the terror in her voice was sincere. She didn’t know where he had come from, I bet she thought she had called him to come. She is literally shaking now, and was stepping backwards away from him. She is coming our way now, even though she knew that the shots had comes from our direction. She was not thinking clearly at all in her fear. It radiated off of her. I know that Jake remembered finding Evie out here. How terrified she was of what was to come for her, after they all left her behind to be mauled to death by his wolf.
We all moved away from her, so she could go right past us. She kept backing away from Jake step by step. She didn’t see any of us as she kept walking backwards into the night. She should have stayed where she was. She should have just allowed Lee to take her out. If she had been smart, she wouldn’t have wasted all of her bullets. She was heading backwards towards the bayou, and that was the real mistake. She only stopped when she took her second step back into the water.
That seemed to snap her out of being transfixed on Jake. She suddenly realized the dangerous location that she was in. She went to step forward, but it was already too late. Gators hunt at night. Although they do not eat very often, they are not going to say no to a free meal, that so willingly offered itself up to them. The scream she made before she was pulled further back and then under the water was chilling to hear. There was nothing that any of us could do. She was under the water, and it was too murky to see where either of them where. I know that Lee was trying to help her, from his vantage point. He just couldn't see her. Drowning was not a good way to die. Neither was becoming a meal for a gator. But there was nothing that we could do at this time. She was gone.
They will probably find her when they come out here after her husband and son realize she never came home. Frankly, it was hard to feel bad for a woman who spent the last year of her life preying on others. One who didn’t value life, and how precious it is. One who had attempted to kill my only child. As far as my mate and I were concerned, it was truly unforgivable. I can see Jake feels the same way. I watched as he turned and bounded away, heading back to Evie. I know they she might need him right now. What just happened was terrifying to see.
I am just glad that with this, maybe Evie’s nightmares will go away. She never deserved the hard life she had. The comment that Victoria made about me giving up my daughter, hurt me to my core. It was not true, I have been looking for her continually since she was taken. I have been all over the place trying to find her. It caused a strain on our bond each time it ended up in disappointment. I am glad that Evie knows the actual truth, and wouldn’t believe that evil woman. If she had, if I had felt my daughter go through the pain of Victoria's poisonous words. I may have killed Victoria myself, with my bare hands.
