In the hospital room, permeated by the smell of disinfectant, Maggie lay pale on the bed.

Outside, Ron sat on a bench, several cigarette butts scattered at his feet.

He held another cigarette in his hand, smoke curling around him, darkening his genteel face, giving it a

somber air.

His clothes bore traces of blood, and his hair was disheveled from the earlier press scrum, making him

look disheveled.

After a moment, hurried footsteps approached, and Harlan rushed with Mildred towards the direction of

the ward.

Seeing Ron sitting there, Mildred hurriedly asked, “What’s going on? Where’s Maggie?”

Ron stubbed out his cigarette. “She’s inside.”

“What exactly happened?” Mildred was on the verge of breaking down.

Ron paused. “They said she had a miscarriage.”

“What?” Mildred’s eyes widened, and she stepped forward, grabbing Ron’s collar. “What are you saying? When did Maggie get pregnant? How could she suddenly have a miscarriage? Did you do this?”

Why were they both present when things went awry? What roles were they playing?

Ron remained silent, but his eyes instinctively shifted away, a gesture that was not lost on Mildred; it became evidence of his guilt in her eyes.

Mildred was furious, trembling with anger. With a snap, she delivered a resounding slap!

No one knew better than Mildred how long her daughter Maggie had waited for this child.

She and Ron had been married for three years, together for a total of eight. Finally, when they had a child, it was taken away. How could Maggie bear it?

“How could you be so heartless? I know you’ve been busy trying to please that Lydia lately, but you can’t be this cruel to Maggie because of it, can you? The child in Maggie’s belly is your own flesh and blood!”

Seeing Mildred explode, Harlan quickly stepped forward to restrain her. “Let’s find out the whole story before jumping to conclusions. Ron wouldn’t intentionally harm his own child.”

Mildred glared at Ron. “You tell me! What’s going on?”

After Ron vaguely recounted the events, Mildred’s face contorted in rage. She gritted her teeth. “Lydia! I will never forgive you!”

“Sneeze! Sneeze!”

Lydia, just stepping out of the car, sneezed repeatedly. The next moment, a black suit was draped over her shoulders.

Lydia paused, turning her head to catch the concern in Lambert’s eyes.

Instantly warmed by his gesture, Lydia adjusted her suit, feeling a blush creeping up her neck.

Lambert took her hand directly and led her towards the store; they were there to buy gifts!

Wythe, held by Lambert’s hand, witnessed this tender moment between his parents. A glint of amusement sparkled in his bright eyes.

He leaned his head against Lambert’s arm and teased, “Dad, you’re so biased. I’m feeling a bit chilly too.”

Lambert halted, crouching down to scoop Wythe up with one arm. His eyes brimmed with affection. “Not cold now, are you?”

Wythe, nestled in Lambert’s embrace, contentedly replied, “No, Dad, you’re so warm!”

Wythe’s rare display of affection was quite childlike. Lydia glanced at him, feeling somewhat speechless.

She almost scolded him but stopped herself.

After all, Wythe had never acted this way before, and Lambert seemed to enjoy it, although Lydia found it tiring. After all, Wythe weighed over fifty pounds!

The family of three walked hand in hand into the mall, heading straight for the jade counter.

From Lambert’s account, Lydia knew his mother loved jewelry, so naturally, she wanted to pick something she would adore.

After some browsing, Lydia chose a delicately crafted jade and diamond ornament of exquisite quality.

Meanwhile, as Lydia selected a gift for Lambert’s mother, Lambert’s gaze lingered on a set of jewelry displayed in the middle of the counter.

The set was obviously crafted from the same rare pink diamond, and it was exceptionally beautiful.

Seeing Lambert’s interest, the saleswoman hurriedly explained, “Sir has an excellent eye! This set of diamond jewelry is perfect for a family of three, especially for successful individuals like yourself. These three pieces are cut from the same pink diamond and are named ‘Happy Home.“”

Clearly pleased with the set, Lambert immediately instructed, “We’ll take this.”

Lydia, who was holding the ornament, paused. “Isn’t this ornament good enough? But, symbolically

speaking, this set of jewelry does seem better.”

Lambert smirked but said nothing. It was Wythe who shook his head, saying playfully, “Mom, you’re silly! This set of jewelry is obviously for us!”

Lambert ruffled Wythe’s hair affectionately. His son always made him proud with his cleverness!

Lydia blushed. She hadn’t thought of that angle at all!

But Wythe often admired other families wearing matching outfits, and although he never said it aloud, his longing gaze always made Lydia feel guilty.

She hadn’t expected Lambert to notice their son’s subtle desires.

The set of jewelry and the ornament were purchased together. Then Lambert immediately placed the bracelet on Lydia’s delicate wrist and the small necklace on Wythe.

He held the remaining necklace in his hand, then glanced meaningfully at Lydia.

The implication in his eyes made Lydia’s cheeks flush. She quickly took the necklace from Lambert’s hand and looped it around his neck, carefully fastening the pink diamond pendant.

At this moment, they were very close, Lydia’s head almost touching Lambert’s shoulder. Lambert’s eyes twinkled mischievously. He leaned in close to her ear and planted a kiss on her soft earlobe.

Lydia blushed furiously, stepping back quickly after securing the pendant. Lambert looked at her with a half–smile, and Lydia, feeling embarrassed, glared at him fiercely.

Faint gossip murmurs from the store staff could be heard in the background.

“Look, they’re so perfect together!”

Lambert didn’t tease her further. With Wythe in one arm and Lydia’s hand in the other, he walked out of

the store.
