Chapter 41 Enthusiastic
After giving it some thought, Penny’s smile deepened at the corner of her lips.
“Uncle, what are you talking about? Why would I mind such a thing? I’m thrilled for you both! Besides, I really like children. Having such a cute and lively child around would definitely be fun.”
Odgen sighed inwardly and didn’t say anything further, but Nydia’s eyes held a newfound appreciation as she observed Penny. Poised, courteous, and most importantly, able to assert her position, such a woman would be more than enough to be Lambert’s wife!
Lambert paid no mind to their interaction. Ever since Wythe appeared, his entire attention had been focused on the child.
Having such a soft and adorable child nestled in his arms was a completely new experience, leaving him somewhat at a loss but also eager to provide everything good in the world for him.
“Jamie, you mentioned you came for food, have you eaten yet?”
Wythe shook his head. “Not yet, I saw Daddy as soon as I came in.”
Lambert nodded and signaled the waiter. “Bring us some kid–friendly snacks, not too much, but make them exquisite!”
The waiter nodded repeatedly and withdrew.
Only then did Wythe’s gaze fall upon Penny, seemingly overlooked on the other side.
He tugged at Lambert’s shirt. “Daddy, who is this lady? You haven’t introduced her yet?”
While helping Wythe with his napkin, Lambert’s tone turned cold. “Don’t worry about her, just a stranger.”
Penny’s smile finally faltered a bit, feeling somewhat embarrassed as she spoke up. “How could we be
strangers? Even if you don’t remember the past, we just reacquainted ourselves earlier, didn’t we?”
Lambert didn’t spare her a glance, focusing only on Wythe’s small face, “Do you dislike any desserts?”
Wythe shook his head, then his eyes twinkled. “Desserts haven’t arrived yet, so I don’t know if I dislike
any!”
“It’s alright, if there’s something you don’t like, you can leave it.”
Wythe furrowed his brows. “That’s not very nice, Mom says we shouldn’t waste food!”
“Oh, then what do you suggest?”
Wythe grinned slyly and whispered to Lambert, “Daddy will know later! Daddy has to help me!”
Lambert raised an eyebrow, observing Wythe’s cunning expression. With a slight nod, he agreed.

After a while, the desserts arrived, each one exquisite and mouth–watering. Since Lambert had ordered a
lot, the table quickly filled up.
Wythe picked his favorite and took a bite, his eyes lighting up. “They’re really delicious!”
Then, he picked up a piece and offered it to Penny. “Auntie, you should try it too!”
Wythe’s sudden friendliness caught Penny off guard.
As a woman, her intuition made her feel like this unexpected child didn’t like her.
But now, he was offering her his favorite dessert. Could it be because of Lambert?
Regardless, she couldn’t refuse the dessert Wythe offered.
After all, they had acknowledged him as their grandson. Moreover, Lambert had mentioned they had
already done a paternity test, and she was still nothing in comparison!
So, Penny graciously accepted the dessert. “Thank you. Is your name Jamie? You’re really adorable!”
As she spoke, Penny ate the dessert. Wythe squinted his eyes, asking eagerly, “Auntie, is it tasty?”
“It’s delicious, thank you!” Penny elegantly wiped her mouth and before she could put down her napkin, another delicate dessert appeared in front of her.
Penny looked up to meet Wythe’s innocent face. “There’s more, Auntie, try this one too.”
Pausing for a moment, Penny accepted the dessert again.
And so, under Wythe’s “enthusiastic” recommendation, Penny ended up eating dozens of desserts in a
IOW.
She was nearly bursting, but she managed to hold back her discomfort, covering her mouth with a
handkerchief.
However, Wythe showed no signs of letting up. “Auntie, if you like it, you should have this one too. I’m full now, but you’re an adult, you should be able to finish it. No wasting food!”
Penny was burning with frustration.
She could tell that this child was teasing her, even though she didn’t understand how he came up with such a method. But the cunning in his eyes was impossible to ignore.
Penny wasn’t the only one who noticed. The adults present also saw through Wythe’s little game.
Lambert fully supported his son, while the Ogden couple admired Wythe’s cleverness. None of them thought to help Penny,
Penny pressed her lips together, forcing a smile. “Thank you, Jamie, but Auntie is already full.”

Before she could finish her sentence, Wythe’s face fell, looking extremely aggrieved. “Auntie, do you dislike me? I knew it, you only pretend to like me on the surface, but you don’t actually like me, do you?”
Wythe’s accusation left Penny speechless, alternating between pale and red–faced. She was at a loss for words.
After all, she was completely full. Who knew she’d end up eating so much?
Before Lambert arrived, Penny had been here for almost an hour.
In that time, she had drunk two or three cups of coffee and eaten a piece of tiramisu.
Under Wythe’s enthusiastic attack, she had reluctantly eaten seven or eight desserts. Her stomach was practically full to bursting; she might never touch dessert again after this!
But faced with the child’s persistence, Penny couldn’t help but feel helpless. They say children are angels, but she felt like the one sitting across from her was a little devil!
Penny glanced helplessly at Lambert, hoping he would intervene and stop this little mischief maker.
However, to Penny’s disappointment, Lambert not only didn’t stop Wythe, but he also pushed the desserts Wythe had placed in front of her earlier toward her.
“Please.”
This was the most polite thing Lambert had said to Penny all day.
It was also the most conflicting, as Lambert clearly supported his son’s actions with his actions.
With no other choice, Penny reluctantly accepted the dessert in Wythe’s eager gaze.
As Penny’s face turned pale and she rushed to the restroom, Nydia’s attitude toward her became noticeably more polite and distant.
After Odgen’s promise, Penny realized that her dream of marrying into a wealthy family was shattered!
Penny was tactful enough not to linger and quickly said goodbye to the Halsey parents before leaving.
Nydia couldn’t help but feel more regretful at Penny’s departure. Finding such a good girl wasn’t easy.
But for now, her grandson’s situation was more important, So Nydia asked, “Lambert, when are you planning to take Jamie back?”
Lambert’s hand, which had been serving his son food, paused with the knife.
He hadn’t forgotten Wythe’s reaction the last time he mentioned taking him home.
He had run away. Even now, he wasn’t sure if the child would definitely go home with him.

So Lambert’s gaze fell on Wythe, who was happily eating cake. Seeing crumbs on his son’s lips, he quickly wiped them away with a napkin.
“Jamie, what are your thoughts?”
Being able to have an equal conversation with his father made Wythe very satisfied.
So he obediently put down the cake and let his father wipe his mouth before slowly speaking up, “I’m not prepared to go home with you, Dad!”
