Silent all the way, Lambert dropped Lydia off, and the atmosphere was somewhat awkward.

Lydia felt inexplicably disappointed. She hadn’t meant to, but something felt off. Suddenly, thoughts of Wythe crossed her mind.
Fidgeting with her phone, Lydia debated whether she should call and apologize.
Although Lambert hadn’t said anything, she felt like she had hurt him.
“Mom! You’ve been staring at your phone for half an hour. Are you going to make a call?” Wythe’s voice snapped Lydia back to reality.
She awkwardly tucked her phone into her pocket. “No, I was just checking the time. Are you hungry?”
Wythe squinted slightly, sensing that something was off. His mom had seemed distracted since she got back today, and her mood didn’t seem great.
Was it something to do with Dad?
After a moment of thought, Wythe reached into Lydia’s pocket and took out her phone. “Mom, you go
cook. I’ll hold onto your phone.”
Lydia paused, “Okay, but no games. They’re bad for your eyes.”
“I know.”
As Lydia headed to the kitchen, Wythe unlocked the phone and scrolled through the contacts until he found Lambert’s name. Leaning his chin on his hand, he sent a message.
“Not feeling great.”
In less than a second, the phone chimed with a reply, “Wait two minutes. I’ll call you.”
Wythe smirked upon receiving the message.
Indeed, his mom’s bad mood today had something to do with Dad!
However, he decided to leave the adults to solve their own problems. He wouldn’t interfere. He just couldn’t bear to see his mom in a bad mood.
Wythe quickly deleted the messages and placed the phone on the coffee table in front of the sofa, staring
at the screen, waiting.
On the other side, Lambert was in the middle of a video conference, but the events of the day had left him
in a bad mood.
His expression was grim, and his subordinates were on edge, afraid of receiving harsh criticism for any

mistake.
What’s wrong with the boss? Is he going through menopause? Isn’t it too early?
The sudden message caused Lambert to pause. He glanced down at his phone, and miraculously, his gaze
softened.
He quickly replied to Lydia’s text.
His subordinates breathed a collective sigh of relief, silently praising the person on the other end of the call! They couldn’t be more grateful to their savior!
One minute and twenty–eight seconds later, Lydia’s phone rang again.
“Mom, your phone!” Wythe quickly brought the phone to the kitchen where Lydia was cooking, and she used her free hand to answer it. “OK, who is it?”
“It’s me.”
The low voice murmured in her ear, leaving Lydia momentarily stunned. Lambert?!
“Um, you…”
Lydia struggled to find the right words, but Lambert intervened before she could continue. “Listen to me! I didn’t mean to disrespect you today. It’s just that emotions got the better of me, so even if you’re angry, I
won’t apologize for it.”
Lambert’s words made Lydia blush furiously, but surprisingly, her previous disappointment seemed to
dissipate. “I–I’m not angry, just… just…”
On the other end of the line, Lambert’s mood improved, and he couldn’t help but smirk. “That’s good! If you’re uncomfortable being out, I’ll be more mindful in the future.”
Lydia blushed even more at his words. He said “in the future“…
The uncertainty made Lydia’s heart race. She had never realized that love could be so exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.
Perhaps she couldn’t escape from this man named Lambert after all.
“Mom! It’s burnt!” Wythe’s voice came from the kitchen doorway. Lydia realized that the food she had
been cooking was now a charred mess.
She hurriedly turned off the gas and quickly ended the call.
How embarrassing!
Wythe stood outside, wrinkling his nose at the smell of burnt food wafting from the kitchen. His face twisted into a frown. “Mom, is there no dinner tonight?”

Seeing the lingering blush on her mother’s face, Wythe shook his head in resignation.
It was true what they said about women in love having negative IQs.
Mom even burnt the food!
But it was okay. He was a thoughtful and clever child. For the sake of his mom’s good mood, they could
go out for dinner.
In the alley behind the cafe, Harlan, who had been beaten, finally opened his eyes.
Whether it was his misfortune or others turning a blind eye to his plight, during the time he was unconscious after being beaten, not a single person had noticed the figure lying in the alley.
Struggling to get up, Harlan winced in pain all over his body.
Thinking about the treatment he had just endured, he spat angrily, “Lydia, don’t get too cocky! I won’t let you off the hook!”
