Chapter 26 Go find Dad

A few days later, Saturday, the weather was clear!

Early in the morning, Lydia got up. She had an important exhibition today, and a few models were coming over for interviews. The studio had just moved here from Paris, and there was a lot to start anew,

so she had been busy lately!

After hastily preparing breakfast, Lydia knocked on the door, “Wythe, are you up yet?”

“Not yet…”

Wythe’s drowsy voice came from inside. Lydia’s eyes softened with indulgence, “Alright, then you can

sleep a little longer. It’s Saturday anyway, but don’t forget to have breakfast. If the milk is cold, you can

heat it up again. There are sandwiches on the table. I’m off to the office!”

“I know! Bye, Mom!” came the soft voice from the room.

“Bye, sweetheart!”

After exchanging greetings with her son, Lydia hurried downstairs.

Glancing at the time, she realized she needed to be quicker, or she might miss today’s morning meeting.

At this moment, Wythe wasn’t lying in bed either.

He had already gotten up early and was busy organizing his things, preparing to go out. Specifically, he was planning to find his dad!

He needed to confirm whether the man who looked so much like him was really his father!

Wallet! Check. Tissues! Check. Water bottle! Check! Map, check!

After confirming everything, Wythe slung his small blue backpack over his shoulder, then opened the door and climbed onto the chair by the window sill.

He made sure his mom had left the neighborhood before sneaking down.

This was his own secret plan, one that couldn’t be discovered by his mom!

Ever since the man named Lambert brought his mom back, Wythe had been contemplating this plan in his mind. He wanted to confirm Lambert’s identity.

He couldn’t just confirm someone as his father solely based on their strikingly similar faces. What if he was wrong?

After much thought, Wythe decided it was best to directly approach Lambert for a paternity test.

Fortunately, Wythe was an absolute computer genius.

He sneakily hacked into the internal system of Universal Conglomerate’s headquarters and successfully

obtained Lambert’s schedule. 1

Lambert had been mostly out of town recently, but today, he had a routine meeting at a subsidiary.

Wythe thought this was a perfect opportunity!

So, armed with his map and some change, Wythe took a bus to Universal Conglomerate!

At 9:35 AM, Wythe got off a taxi and stood at the entrance of Universal Conglomerate.

He glanced up at the tall building and then walked in expressionlessly.

“Hello.”

A childish voice made the receptionist look up from the records she was checking, then she lowered her

head in confusion again.

Was she hearing things because she stayed up too late last night? Since when did the company have

children visiting?

“I’m here!” the childish voice rang out again. The receptionist followed the sound and saw a little boy.

Her eyes instantly lit up; what an adorable child! And that face looked so familiar!

“Boy, who are you looking for?”

“I’m looking for my dad!”

“Are you lost?” The receptionist asked eagerly. Few people could resist Wythe’s cuteness. Did this child

come here because he got lost?

Wythe looked serious as he stared at the receptionist. “I’m not lost. I’m here to find my dad.”

The receptionist pondered for a moment. Was this child from one of the employees‘ families?

“Alright, what’s your dad’s name? Do you have his phone number? Did you notify him before coming?”

“My dad’s name is Lambert!”

The receptionist was momentarily stunned. Lambert! The name sounded familiar.

Ah, it’s their boss! Really?

When she looked again at the chubby face, the receptionist realized the resemblance was uncanny! No

wonder she found him familiar!

This was big news! Wasn’t their boss unmarried? How could he have such a big son? Was he a love child?

But he came here specifically to find the boss. Should she let him in?

She must! But she needed to inform the general manager first!

“Could you wait here for a moment, sweetheart? Let me make a call, okay?”

Wythe nodded seriously. “Okay!”

The receptionist, feeling amazed, dialed the general manager’s number right away.

In the top–floor conference room of the branch office, the finance manager was presenting the recent

financial summary of the company. Lambert sat expressionless in his seat, flipping through those

numerical reports, his deep eyes revealing no hint of his mood.

Suddenly, the branch manager, Gordon, felt his phone vibrating on the table. Lambert frowned and glanced at Gordon’s position. Gordon broke into a cold sweat and instinctively hung up the call, but within two seconds, the phone rang again.

“Answer it outside!”

Lambert spoke up, and Gordon, as if granted clemency, picked up the phone, bent over, and walked out.

As he put the phone to his ear, he scolded, “What’s going on? Don’t you know the boss is in a meeting?”

“Sorry, sir. There’s something important that requires your approval.”

“Speak up then, what’s the matter? Is there an important visitor coming? I don’t recall any significant clients scheduled for today!”

“No, actually, it’s a child coming to see the boss!”

Gordon was taken aback. He scratched his ear. “A child? Whose child?”

“He said he’s here to see the boss, claiming to be the boss’s son, and the kicker is, he looks exactly like the boss! Should we inform the boss directly or should you come and see first?”

Gordon’s gossip radar suddenly went off. “Just the kid? Could it be some woman causing trouble?”

“No, no. The child’s mother seems to be absent. The kid came alone, claiming to want to see his dad,

Lambert!”

“Geez! Hold on, I’ll come over to confirm!”

Gordon hung up the phone, pondered for a moment, and realized he should probably consult the boss first. But wait, wasn’t the boss unmarried? Where did the child come from?

With a complicated expression, Gordon returned to the conference room and stood hesitantly beside Lambert. Should he tell the boss? Could it be a prank? But the receptionist wouldn’t dare.

Seeing Gordon standing there motionless, Lambert shot him a sharp look. “Something wrong?”

Gordon couldn’t help but tremble. “Um, boss, there’s something I want to ask you.”

“Speak!”

“Boss, are you married?”

Lambert’s expression instantly darkened. “Steven, what are you implying? My personal life isn’t

something I need to disclose to you, is it?”

“No, no! Boss, please don’t misunderstand!” Steven waved his hands repeatedly. “Actually, here’s the thing. The receptionist just called, saying a kid who claims to be your son came to see you.”

Lambert raised an eyebrow, likely another attempt by some woman trying to marry into wealth. So, he smirked sarcastically, “My son? Which woman brought him here? Kick him out!”

Gordon wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. “But it’s said that the child came alone, and moreover, he looks a lot like you.”

Lambert’s interest was piqued. He thought for a moment and said to Gordon, “Go check it out. If he looks convincing, bring him to my office.”

Gordon nodded repeatedly and hurried out. He understood what “convincing” meant – how close the resemblance was.

The executives in the room exchanged glances, unable to conceal their curiosity.

Lambert had no intention of letting them watch the show further. “That’s it for today. Meeting adjourned!”
