The BMW quickly came to a stop in front of the Queen Hotel.
Harlan and Mildred had already adjusted their expressions, wearing a facade of sadness and joy as if reuniting with a long–lost relative. They pushed open the hotel’s door.
“Lydia…”
A tender call momentarily quieted the scene. As the reporters realized who had arrived, they
instinctively pressed the shutters on their cameras!
In the midst of flashing lights, Harlan’s tear–streaked face appeared in front of Lydia. “Lydia, is it really you? Six years, we all thought you were gone after the accident. We never expected you to be alive! This is incredible! I’m so happy!”
He was overwhelmed with emotion, the epitome of a loving father.
Lydia was taken aback by Harlan’s appearance, but she was more enlightened than surprised.

If that incident hadn’t had his meddling behind the scenes, she wouldn’t believe it, even if she were

Harlan’s expression faltered for a moment, but quickly returned to normal.
“Lydia, what’s gotten into you? I’m your father, I’ll give you whatever you want. Let’s go back and talk about it, okay?”
Harlan’s expression became even more affectionate, but it only made Lydia feel more disgusted. 11
She stood up from her seat, her eyes ablaze with anger. “Stop pretending to be affectionate. Since the day you killed my mother, I no longer have a father!”

Harlan broke out in a cold sweat, shocked by Lydia’s public accusation. But his expression remained unchanged, calm as ever. He had covered his tracks well; she couldn’t possibly have evidence.
The media on the scene turned their attention to Harlan, bombarding him with questions.
“Mr. Harlan, is what Lydia said true? Was Natalie’s death not an accident, but a conspiracy?”
“Mr. Harlan, what was the reason behind renaming the ZQ Group? It’s said that some of the old shareholders within the company didn’t agree with it, but you insisted. Is it true what your daughter said, that your position is not entirely legitimate?”
“Mr. Harlan, how did your wife really die?”
Now it was Harlan’s turn to feel pressured, and he looked at Lydia with a pained expression.
At this moment, Mildred suddenly spoke up, “Lydia, Harlan, what are you doing? I know you don’t like me, but we genuinely love each other…”
Lydia’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Love? Then why didn’t you marry her from the beginning? Why
sneak around and cheat on your wife? Does a mistress deserve love?”
True love could hurt others, trample on them, and serve as an excuse for absolution?
Don’t be so cheap!
Mildred tearfully pleaded, “I only love Harlan. Love itself is not a crime. And I’ve always stayed in the
shadows, not disrupting your family.”
She looked so aggrieved, as if she were the most innocent victim. Some people were born to distort right and wrong, to do all the bad things but pretend to be pure and innocent.
Lydia was disgusted. She pointed at Maggie. “What about this living evidence? You want to turn a blind
eye to it, but I can’t.”
Raising an illegitimate daughter and pretending to be innocent? It was laughable!
Maggie’s face turned pale, tears welling up in her eyes.
Mildred, feeling like her nerves had been pricked, exclaimed, “She’s your half–sister, can’t you have a little compassion? You can hate me, blame me, but don’t take it out on Maggie. What’s your hatred? Direct
it at me.”
Harlan shook his head slightly, distressed. “Lydia, no matter how much you hate or blame me, you can’t accuse your father of killing his wife. Yes, I made the mistake that any man would make, but my feelings for my wife and daughter are genuine. Even if I die, I couldn’t bear to see you hurt.”
What a sincere and loving face, so righteous.

Maggie covered her face, sobbing, “Lydia, you’ve never liked me since we were kids, always playing
tricks on me for no reason. I don’t blame you, I’m just superfluous.”
