She didn’t know what to do, so she just kept telling the doctor to hurry up and come over.
The doctors came quickly, they put Stephanie on a stretcher and rushed her to the emergency room.
“Don’t worry, we’ll save her.” A coworker who usually got along pretty well with McKayla patted her on the shoulder to comfort her, then hurried off.
It left McKayla staring blankly at that big pool of Stephanie’s blood on the ground.
She didn’t react until the nurse came to clean up. She wiped the tears off her face and followed them outside the emergency room.

The other side.
Maxwell took Roxanne into the car.
The car door was closed, the seatbelt was already fastened, but he still didn’t start the car.
It seemed like he kept seeing Stephanie’s eyes looking at him when he fell to the ground.
“Max,” Roxanne, who was sitting in the passenger seat, spoke up, you’re worried about her, just go back.”
“I’m still downstairs at the hospital, I could see her as soon as I went

upstairs, it’s fine if I go back by myself.”
Maxwell didn’t answer, and his knuckles turned white from gripping the steering wheel so hard.
Roxanne kept her head down. She took a wet wipe from her bag and wiped her lips bit by bit.
There was lipstick on it, and also some fresh blood that had just been hit out by McKayla.
She put the tissue with lipstick and blood where Maxwell could see it, pretended to feel guilty and said, “I lost my temper and got into a fight with Dr. Clark at the hospital. Even though I wasn’t the one who pushed Stephanie, but…”
As she spoke, she put down the wet wipe, leaned over, took Maxwell’s hand, and looked at him with tearful eyes.
“Sorry, Max, I just wanted to protect you.”
Maxwell lowered his eyes a little and looked at Roxanne’s hand holding his.
He didn’t know why, but what flashed through his mind was Stephanie holding his hand years ago when he was worried and upset about his grandpa’s illness.
I still remembered that day, he was half–kneeling, his head resting on her shoulder. He had always been calm, but he broke down, and silent tears soaked her clothes,
Stephanie gently stroked his hair, softly patted his back, and soothed his vulnerability.
That day she said, “Max, don’t be afraid.”

“Didn’t the family say, if there’s good news, maybe grandpa would get better, I’ll go back with you.”
“Even if it was Grandpa… Max, you still had me.”
There still seemed to be her scent on his nose, and that was the only smell he remembered from those sad days that year.
“Max…”
He seemed to hear her calling his name again and again, happy or sad, gentle or shy…
The last time was just now, her soft call in the emergency exit.
His brows suddenly furrowed, and he suddenly felt a bit scared.
“Max.” Roxanne’s voice came again. She held his hand tightly, “What’s wrong?”
Maxwell looked up and saw the pale, sickly Roxanne in front of him.
Consciousness came back.
He turned his head and closed his eyes.
“It’s okay.”
He said, took his hand out of Roxanne’s hand, and started the car.
“There was McKayla at the hospital, she was going to be fine.”
Maxwell calmly looked at the road ahead, drove the Aston Martin out of the parking lot like he knew it well, and headed for the main
overpass.
“I walked you home.”

In the hospital.
People came and went in the emergency room.
McKayla was anxiously waiting outside.
She used to be a gynecologist and had done surgeries herself, but now she was too emotional and didn’t dare to do it herself.
Luckily, she had contacted them in advance to prepare blood.
It was just that right now, Stephanie’s situation… she didn’t know.
With so much blood lost, could the baby still be saved?
Her mind was a mess, and she didn’t dare trust her own judgment. She could only wait for the final result.
“Step, step, step…”
There was a sound of footsteps/ McKayla looked up and saw it was her brother, Patrick Clark.
“Bro!”
McKayla threw herself into Patrick’s arms, and her emotions, which had just calmed down a little, broke down again.
“Bro, I hurt Steph.” She cried in Patrick’s arms, “What should I do…“.
Patrick sighed softly, patted his sister on the back, and said, “I already found out what happened on my way here. Don’t worry, let me go in and take a look first.”

“Kayla, you didn’t trust others, and you didn’t even trust your brother?”
The Clark family was a family of doctors, and as the oldest son, Patrick. was naturally a medical genius.
