Chapter239
It seemed like I just couldn’t believe my eyes.
It wasn’t until he checked over and over again that Simon finally turned around stiffly and looked at Jeremiah in disbelief.
There was nothing but fear in his eyes.
Screams kept coming one after another, and at the same time, everyone’s eyes were on Roxanne on the stage and Maxwell in the hidden seat over in the audience.
Roxanne was already completely stunned.
She just got a message from Simon, and she had a bad feeling, but she couldn’t believe her eyes.
She remembered Maxwell told her that Stephanie would come today, and he even saved the seat next to him for Stephanie.
But nobody ever told her, Serena is Stephanie!
Suddenly, Roxanne shivered. She suddenly remembered that she had threatened Serena before, trying to get Serena to team up with her against Stephanie…
If what she saw now was real, then…
No, that’s not right, there’s no way, Serena and Stephanie definitely couldn’t be the same person!
Roxanne suddenly turned around and looked over at Maxwell.
Maxwell stood there and looked at Stephanie on the stage from a

distance.
He couldn’t believe his eyes.
How could it be Stephanie?
How could he not recognize Stephanie?
He met her when they were young, and later she stayed by his side for seven years. So many days and nights, so many times being close, he knew her body well. She had always been there for him. There was no way he wouldn’t recognize her!
The scene of the first time I met Serena came to mind again.
Back then, she was wearing a coat, and Jeremiah was helping her walk to the backstage.
There was also Serena’s first stage.
That skinny masked woman stood under the spotlight. She wore the Burning Rose costume. The cold light shone on her. There were big patches of bruises all over her body, all connected together. She looked badly hurt, hurt so much that she seemed about to die.
Once again, in his mind, he heard that “Max” Stephanie called out from behind him after she fell down the stairs at the hospital that day.
His right hand trembled a little. He remembered after the first livestream, he called her to the woods. She was so weak she could barely stand, and in the end, Jeremiah had to carry her away.
Maxwell could barely stand. His face was tense, and his lips were pressed together.
He didn’t really show much expression, but anyone who knew him well could tell just how shaken up he was inside.
Chapter239
Why didn’t he recognize Stephanie?
Was it just because of a mask?
Did a mask really make him unable to recognize the lover who’d been by his side for so many years?
Not…
From the very beginning, he had this strange sense of familiarity with Serena–her way of singing, the way she played her instruments, and that weird familiar feeling he got every time he saw her.
But he kept saying no.
Roxanne said she got some inside info, Serena had a miscarriage from a fall 10 days before the livestream, so she couldn’t join the rehearsal.
At that time, Roxanne guessed Serena was Jeremiah’s woman.
And…
Maxwell’s fists were clenched and shaking.
His eyes were a little red.
In his memory, Stephanie wasn’t as skinny as Serena.
From the last time I saw Stephanie in the hospital to when Serena went on stage, it was only a few days.
He couldn’t believe it–just a few days, and someone could lose that much weight.
That was also the reason he denied it at first.
