Chapter 67 Divorce him.
Dante’s POV.
The evening breeze swept across the shore as I stood in front of it.
This was one of the places I rested my head whenever there was so much going on in my head.
It’s been almost a week since I last spoke to her.
We don’t even maintain eye contact anymore, just a cold stare and then… nothing.
I’ve had countless sleepless nights but this was different.
It wasn’t just sleepless nights but nightmares.
Whenever I closed my eyes, I would see her crying.
No matter how I drowned myself in alcohol, the sorrow I felt wouldn’t go away.
Her love was an addiction I couldn’t get rid of.
And the worst part, she was always beside me.
Having something you want close to you but still can’t reach it no matter how hard you keep trying is another level of pain I’d wish for no one.
A deep breath left my lungs.
“Sir.” My assistant said, standing behind me.
“Why don’t you try to make it up to her. You handled worse situations than this.”
“If that was a solution, I wouldn’t hesitate to do it.”
“But you haven’t given that a try…”
“Isla is complicated. She doesn’t trust me anymore. I lied to her.”
The silence between us stretched, then I cleared my throat.
What was I expecting when I fell in love with her, even when I swore she wasn’t worthy of me.
Stupid me. I had always handled problems around me without stressing out, but this was killing me.
“I think we should head home. If being soft doesn’t work, I’ll have to do it by force.”
“Ahh? Okay sir.”
The first person I met at the door when we arrived at the mansion was my twin brother.
He stood at the door, cigarette in hand, a liquor on the other hand.
“You’re here,” he said, dragging on his cigar.
“You look exhausted.” I said, patting his shoulder.
Damian and I hadn’t seen each other in days, busy schedules.
And I don’t think Isla had said anything to him.
Looks like we’re both gonna fight this silent war together.
“Did you tell her about the marriage switch?” He asked, sipping his drink.
“I didn’t,” I said, as he walked inside the sitting room. “Lucia did.”
The expression on his face turned pale.
“How did Lucia get to know about the twin switch?”
“Maybe she overheard us talking about it. Venomous bitch.”
“Yoo, you shouldn’t call her that. Isla was going to find out the truth anyway.”
“How’d you think she would feel hearing it from any enemy, not from us?”
He sighed as smoke danced into the air.
“You were the cause of this mess. You should clean it up.” He argued.
If I hadn’t insisted that Damian married her in place of me, these issues wouldn’t have happened.
“Why do I feel like you’re so reluctant about parting with her?” I teased.
He smiled, gripping his cup tighter.
“She’s lovely. No matter how much I admire her, she wasn’t mine anyway.”
“Yes… she’s lovely,” I whispered.
“Is she in? I would like to have a conversation with her.”
“I don’t know. She comes and disappears like a ghost.”
Who would want to be around someone who had lied to them, in the name of love.
I stood and walked to the hallway, toward her room.
When I got there, the door was half open, the windows were locked.
Slow R&B music filled the air.
A smile tugged at the corner of my lips.
My hand pulled the door before I could control it.
When I stepped inside, she wasn’t there.
“Where is she?” I murmured, moving toward the bathroom.
“Nice song.”
The sound of the shower hummed softly as she sang along the music.
“Isla?” I called out.
She didn’t respond. She was far too gone with the song to hear me.
I walked back to the bed, and sat down on it.
Her room looked beautiful. The decoration was a normal one.
My hand reached for the journal on the bed stand.
“Still keeps notes like a baby.”
My hand slid on the first chapter and I froze.
What had she really been through all these years?
I slid to the second page, then her voice came from behind.
“What are you doing here?” She squealed.
I turned sharply.
She was in her towel, hair in a messy bun, lips beautiful.
For a fleeting moment, I could get my eyes off her.
“Why’s my journal doing with you? That’s my privacy!”
“I’m sorry I was curious, I shouldn’t have touched…”
“You always enjoy snuffing your nose into other people’s space.”
“Easy, honey. I didn’t mean to pry into your privacy… I just.”
She grabs it in one go, almost stumbling on her feet.
My hands moved faster than my body did. “Are you okay?”
She pulled my hands away. “Don’t touch me.”
My heart sank.
“You look gorgeous in those…”
“Shut your mouth! Why are you here?”
I didn’t say anything, my eyes devoured her before my body did.
“I came to say hi.”
“Hmmm. Quit those lies of yours. What are you doing here?”
“Isla,” I said, closing the distance between us. “I want you to divorce him.”
“What? Why? He’s my husband.”
“I’m your husband. I signed the contract. He was just a stand in.”
“What are you playing at? The real groom claims his bride?”
“This isn’t some kind of joke, Isla, I’m being serious right now.”
She stepped forward, almost touching. “And what makes you think I’ll adhere to that?”
I smirked, pulling her waist to my body. “Because I call the shots here.”
“You think you can threaten me with that?”
My hand moved down the lower of her back.
“Because it’s an order, Isla.”
“News flash, Mr Dante. Don’t think making me divorce him would make me love you!”
Her words pierced through my heart like a sharp knife.
“Who cares about your feelings?”
Her eyes went wide, the expression on her face was like something I had never seen in a woman before.
“You don’t want to see my ugly side. I just realized that I was too stupid. And I won’t let that repeat itself. I won’t let you use me for the second time.”
“Well, well, honey, if you don’t agree to my terms, I’m gonna have to tell the world everything.”
“Go on, I don’t care….”
“I’m gonna tell them how you moaned for me while you were married to my brother.”
“How do you think they’ll react? Hahaha.”
The blood in my lungs pumped so hard. I shouldn’t have said those words to her, but I’ve got no other choice.
“Don’t you dare!” She said, pulling my hands away.
