Chapter 89: You are with child

Gwendolyn paced around the bedroom, deep in thought.

She knew Julian too well. He could be nice and sweet, but he also had a very dark side. And with the conversation they had before she left for Boodmoon pack, it only made her more suspicious.

He was planning something.

Unable to keep still, she left the room and headed towards the sitting room.

Kieran stood beside the front door, hands crossed behind him. Dom and several other Wilding guards were with him as they discussed Julian's disappearance.

Kieran wasn't worried. If anything, he was glad the mutt was gone. He didn't want any distractions between him and Gwendolyn. They had more important things to worry about.

"Did the Triad hold any meeting while I was gone?" He asked.

"No, Alpha." Dom shook his head. "They're lying low for now. But I can't guarantee they'll remain silent for long. The people are terrified."

"What are they terrified of?"

"Rumours are spreading about the future Luna. They feel endangered around her."

Kieran turned abruptly when he felt Gwendolyn's presence. She was standing beside the stairs, hands wrapped around her body. She heard what Dom just said and she looked worried.

"Leave us." He ordered.

Dom and the other guards bowed and silently left the sitting room.

Then he held out a hand to Gwendolyn. "Moon of my heart."

She went readily, sighing softly as he pulled her into his arms.

"I know you're troubled." He murmured. "But everything will be fine. I promise."

"Kieran, how can you say that?" She whispered. "Everyone is literally scared of me. I can't even show my face out there. I've never felt so helpless in my entire life."

"Don't say that, my love." He pressed a soft kiss on her forehead. "You have me. I know it might look impossible, but we're going to get to the bottom of everything. We just have to find a way to control your powers and keep the Immortals from finding out."

She exhaled and leaned her head against his shoulder. "I don't trust Julian. I think he's going to do something terrible."

"He can't do a thing. The Wildings are out there right now, searching for him and Lilithia. They will be found."

A knock interrupted them.

"Who is it?" Kieran snapped.

The door opened and Cae poked her head inside.

"Is now a good time?" She asked.

"Come in, Cae." He murmured.

Gwendolyn moved away from him and gently embraced the older woman.

"How are you doing, child?"

"Not so great." Gwendolyn shook her head.

"Come. Tell me everything that happened in Bloodmoon pack. Did you find out anything?"

Cae lowered into a couch and looked up expectantly while Gwendolyn settled beside Kieran.

She inhaled and let it out slowly. "Cae, what I'm about to tell you, you must keep it to yourself."

Cae leaned forward, her eyes narrowing curiously. "You have my word. My lips are sealed. Tell me, what did you find?"

"The entire truth."

In a low, monotonous voice, she narrated the entire event which transpired back at Bloodmoon pack.

When she finished, Cae remained speechless. Her expression was one of shock and confusion.

"Never in my entire life did I ever think I would hear of the Black Onyx." She said finally.

Gwendolyn's eyes widened slightly in surprise.

"You've heard of it before?"

"In legends and myths." Cae nodded. "The Onyx is a creature of darkness and chaos, a creature born of intense dark magic which brought about the name Black Onyx. I never thought I would be sitting before one now."

She looked up at Kieran. "When you named your raven Onyx, I didn't think much of it. But now, I do. Everything happened to lead you both to each other."

"Cae, when I got here months ago, you told me Kieran and I were mated for a reason."

"Yes, child. I did. I still don't know the reason, but these aren't just coincidences. There's something we're missing."

"What matters now is making sure the Immortals don't discover the truth." Kieran cut in. "For now, Gwen can't shift. We can't risk releasing the black fog. If she remains in her human form, she might be able to gain control of it."

"How do I gain control of it? I don't even know the kind of powers I have."

Kieran cupped her face and kissed her. "We'll figure it out together. I promise."

She sighed and nodded.

Then he turned back to Cae. "There's a lot we have to do. A dozen warriors are on their way to Ragnar's pack as we speak. I need to keep an eye on him. With his sudden obsession to have Gwen, I need to know whatever move he makes."

"What about the lycan?" Cae asked.

"He'll be found. Once Ryder and Odin return, I'll send them along with the warriors to search for them. Until then, Gwen will find a way to control her powers. And finally, her mother."

Cae's eyes lit up. "You found her?"

"I know where she is. She's in Tartarus, and she's Khal's prisoner."

"That is not good." Cae shook her head. "Tartarus is not a place any creature should be. And Khal won't let you take her away. She's like a replacement for the mate he lost."

"He will have no choice." Kieran vowed. "He would have to release her, or he would face me."

Cae let out a worried sigh. "What now?"

"Now we wait. We keep an eye on Ragnar. We find Julian and Lilithia and drag them back. After that, we move to the next step."

"Alright." Cae nodded. She rose to her feet and held Gwendolyn. "Remember what I told you the first time we spoke?"

"About Kieran being my mate for a purpose?"

Cae chuckled and shook her head. "No, not that. About you having a gift. I told you that you possessed a rare gift, and I see I was right."

"What if it's a deadly gift? What if I hurt people? Cordelia is dead because of me."

"Don't think about that, child." Cae stroked her cheek. "It wasn't your fault. You had no idea the kind of powers you yielded. I still think you were given this power for a reason. Only time will tell."

Gwendolyn exhaled and embraced her. "Thank you, Cae. You've been such a mother figure to me."

Cae smiled and gently patted her back. As she pulled back, she paused and frowned. Her hand lowered to Gwendolyn's stomach and froze.

"Unbelievable." She chuckled.

"What is it?" Kieran and Gwendolyn asked at the same time.

Cae smiled at him, then looked back at Gwendolyn. "You are with child."

Gwendolyn's jaw dropped. Her hands lowered to her stomach. It couldn't be. She was pregnant?

Kieran was equally speechless. His face was a mask of disbelief and shock.

While they were still processing this news, they suddenly heard raised voices outside the pack house.

The door flung open and a woman with red hair stepped inside.

She stopped at the entrance of the door and smiled seductively.

"Kieran, my love." She called in a low, sultry voice. "I'm back."
