Chapter 88 She Won't Act Easily

Chapter 88 She Won't Act Easily

Mia gave a cold smirk, "Ava, why do you always have to go against me? What's in it for you?"

A mocking smile played on Ava's lips.

"Aren't you the one who's been coming at me like a rabid dog?"

"You!" Mia clenched her fists tightly and took two steps forward. "Ava, you still won't give up even though you have no evidence?"

Ava raised an eyebrow and said coolly, "That's just what you think. Mia, from now on, be careful. Check if you've left any loose ends. Make sure to cover your tracks, because if I catch you slipping up... you're done for."

"What do you mean?" Mia's face instantly became guarded as she grabbed Ava's hand. "You... you have more evidence?"

Ava shook off Mia's hand and looked at her coldly.

Mia was so angry she clenched her teeth, her eyes looking like she wanted to tear Ava apart.

Ava turned to leave. Mia raised her hand to grab Ava, but Ava's eyes flashed and she dodged to the side. Her icy gaze fell on that hand hanging in the air, and her eyes turned cold as she grabbed it directly.

"What? Want to pull the same trick again?"

"..." Mia was grinding her teeth so hard they might break. She struggled desperately to break free from Ava's grip, but with Ava holding her, she couldn't muster any strength at all.

Mia suddenly raised her other hand to slap Ava, but Ava sensed her intention and raised her own hand first, striking Mia's face before she could.

"...Ava, you!" Mia was furious, but just then she suddenly saw someone approaching in the distance. A twisted smile curved her lips, and the next moment her expression changed dramatically. "Ms. Davis, why are you hitting me? Please let me go..."

The sudden change made Ava feel disgusted. Sensing someone approaching from behind, she still didn't hesitate to push Mia's hand away.

Mia stumbled back two steps, looking weak and helpless, tears streaming down her face. "Ms. Davis, you..."

"Save your acting. It makes me sick."

Ava turned to leave and saw Joshua standing behind her with an unhappy expression.

She didn't know how long he'd been standing there listening, but Ava felt no guilt and said nothing.

Ava lifted her feet to leave without hesitation, but after just two steps, Joshua grabbed her arm. A flicker of coldness passed through Ava's eyes.

Ava looked at him indifferently, reached out to brush off his hand, and walked past him coolly.

Joshua glanced at Mia, his deep eyes showing traces of scrutiny and complexity.

"Joshua, I came to check on Ms. Davis since she was discharged today, but she suddenly got angry. She really went too far."

"You knew she has a bad temper, so why did you deliberately provoke her?" Joshua asked calmly.

Mia opened her mouth. She had thought Joshua would at least comfort her, but his sudden question left her at a loss.

"I just wanted to be friends with Ms. Davis."

As she spoke, Mia deliberately lowered her hand, revealing her face reddened by Ava's slap.

"Since she doesn't want to, why force it?"

"I..."

"Mia, do you really think I can't see through these tricks of yours?" Joshua's handsome features were growing colder, his voice cool and devoid of warmth.

"Joshua, I don't understand what you mean?" Mia was nervous and panicked.

"Ava may have a bad temper, but she wouldn't hit someone unless they really pushed her too far."

Mia understood what Joshua meant.

He was saying she must have done something to cross Ava's line and brought it on herself.

Watching Joshua leave, Mia was both angry and resentful. This was all Ava's fault.

...

Ava went to the airport to pick up the medicine, returned home, and put the other herbs together, preparing the medicine herself. After what happened with Mia, she didn't trust leaving the medicine at the Thomas Villa at all.

The other members of the Thomas family wouldn't harm Victor, but they trusted Mia, and there was no guarantee something else wouldn't go wrong. Ava wouldn't allow that to happen again.

After Ava finished preparing the medicine, she personally delivered it to the Thomas Villa and watched the servant feed it to Victor. Only then did her heart, which had been anxious for days, finally settle.

Ava treated Victor again, and after working for a long time, seeing Victor's heart rate stable, she finally left with peace of mind.

When she got home, Isabella had already picked up the two children. Because Ava hadn't told them about her discharge, they complained quite a bit.

The next day, Ava went to work as usual.

At the hospital.

Joseph called Ava to his office and handed her a medical file with a serious, heavy expression.

"Take a look. I'm afraid you're the only one who can perform this patient's surgery."

Seeing Joseph's worried look, Ava took the file and carefully read through each page. Her brows couldn't help but furrow. "This type of heart tumor is quite rare. The tumor is already in late stage, and what's worse is that the patient is elderly with multiple concurrent conditions."

Ava's brow tightened even more.

"Exactly, and this patient is Mrs. King. Mrs. King is highly respected, so the hospital is paying special attention to this surgery. But given Mrs. King's current physical condition, the consultation concluded that the estimated mortality rate for surgery is very high, so..."

Ava pressed her lips together. "So no doctor dares to take it?"

Joseph nodded helplessly, furrowing his brow.

After all, the mortality rate was too high, and the surgery was extremely difficult. Not to mention the psychological pressure on the doctor, with such a high failure rate, there wasn't much confidence in completing it. Moreover, this thankless task would offend the King family.

Ava closed the file. "I understand. I'll submit a surgical plan later."

Joseph's worried expression immediately relaxed, and he looked at Ava with relief. "That's great, but how confident are you?"

This surgery indeed had too high a mortality rate, was complex, and extremely difficult. Moreover, due to the patient's physical condition, she couldn't endure a lengthy operation. The surgery had to be completed within two hours, which was a huge challenge for the lead surgeon. One wrong move and the patient's body wouldn't hold up until the end of the surgery.

Of course, Ava had already thought through all this when she saw the file.

"I'll need to examine the patient before I can give you an answer."

"Alright."

Two knocks sounded at the door.

Ava glanced toward the entrance and frowned slightly. Mia walked in, also looking at her, her eyes containing a challenge that only the two of them understood.

Ava calmly looked away.

"Mr. Miller, Dr. Davis is here too."

"Dr. Wilson? Do you need something?"

"Mr. Miller, I'd like to take on Mrs. King's surgery. After yesterday's consultation ended, I drew up a detailed surgical plan. Please take a look." Mia handed her surgical plan to Mr. Miller.
