Chapter 17: What's Ava's Background
The next day.
Ava got up early to prepare breakfast for the two kids. Finn and Cleo had already dressed themselves and gone to wash up.
Cleo was especially excited about her first day of school, and Finn was also curious about kindergarten. After breakfast, she took the two children to the kindergarten.
Ava had been a bit worried. After all, she'd seen other people's kids cry and scream for their moms on their first day of kindergarten.
But when they got to the kindergarten, Ava realized her worries were unnecessary. Both children were very excited and even took the initiative to greet other kids and teachers. As soon as they went in, they were surrounded by people.
"Whose kids are these? So handsome and pretty, I want to steal them home."
"Right, right! Seeing these two kids makes me want to have children."
"So adorable! Compared to my two little troublemakers, other people's kids really are better."
"What should I do? I really want to steal them home."
Cleo said seriously, "Hello, sisters. My name is Cleo. You can call me Cleo, but you can't steal me home because I belong to Mommy."
"My name is Finn. You can call me Finn, sisters."
"Oh my god, these two cuties, I can't take it anymore. Help, they're too adorable."
"Look, that must be their mommy. Mommy is so beautiful, no wonder the kids are beautiful too."
After Ava finished talking with the teacher, she came over to see the two children surrounded by parents showering them with compliments.
A smile curved Ava's lips. The two kids were naturally friendly with everyone—she wondered who they inherited that from.
"Alright, Finn, Cleo, go into school with the teacher."
Finn and Cleo were led into the kindergarten by the teacher, looking back at Ava every few steps. Ava waved at them, watching the children skip inside. The kids weren't crying, but Ava was about to.
Her children had really grown up.
After dropping off the kids, Ava went to work at the hospital. Today was officially her first day, so she first went to Joseph's office.
Just as she reached the office door, a roar came from inside: "What is wrong with you people? How could you make such a basic mistake?"
Ava carefully knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Ava raised an eyebrow. Was she going to get scolded on her first day? She steeled herself and walked in. The atmosphere in the office was tense.
Joseph stood in front of his desk, with several doctors standing before him with their heads lowered. Clearly they'd made a mistake and were being scolded.
Joseph's cheeks were flushed with anger. When he saw who came in, he froze for a moment.
Ava was also taken aback by Joseph's expression.
A moment later, Joseph's stern, angry face immediately broke into intense excitement. "...Ava, you're finally here! Please, have a seat."
Ava nodded slightly, her beautiful face wearing an appropriate smile. "Thank you, Mr. Miller. Don't mind me, you finish what you're doing first."
"You all can leave now. You absolutely cannot make this kind of basic mistake again, do you hear me?"
"Mr. Miller, we've got it."
Joseph had already come over to pour tea for Ava. Ava felt a bit overwhelmed by the attention. "Mr. Miller, don't trouble yourself, I can do it myself."
The few doctors who had just been chewed out by the director walked toward the door while sneaking glances at Ava.
Who was this Ava?
How could she make this stern and angry Joseph suddenly do a complete 180 and even personally pour tea for her?
"Ava, I'm so glad you came. I was afraid you wouldn't want to come." Joseph was so moved he was nearly in tears.
Seeing Joseph like this, Ava couldn't help but smile. "In your eyes, Mr. Miller, am I the kind of person who goes back on her word?"
Joseph waved his hand, saying with a smile, "I didn't think that at all. It's just that the competition for you was so fierce. Every day you delayed joining, I was afraid someone would snatch you away."
"Don't worry, if I promised you, I definitely won't go back on my word."
"Good, good." Joseph smiled happily. "There's a meeting in a bit, let's go together. It's a good opportunity for me to introduce you to the other doctors."
"Alright, but Mr. Miller, I'm not working at the hospital under the name Cynthia. Please just treat me the same as everyone else from now on."
Cynthia's reputation was too high-profile. Even Joseph's attitude toward her made her a bit uncomfortable.
Joseph naturally understood the pros and cons of this.
The meeting was at nine o'clock. The large conference room was already gradually filling up with doctors.
