Chapter 108 Birthday Party
"Mia, you're lying to me, aren't you? You do have feelings for me. You asked me out for meals, you hugged me, you came to me for help. You said I was someone you could rely on, you said I was the best person to you in this world. Mia, you do love me, don't you? You're scared of them, right? Don't be afraid, I'll protect you." Dean gripped Mia's shoulders tightly, desperate for her response.
But what he got instead was...
"Shut up! Shut up! Just shut up!"
Mia felt like she was going crazy with anger. She kept pushing him away, waving her hands to stop him from getting closer. "I don't love you. I never said those things or did any of that. We're just colleagues. I never promised you anything. Dean, snap out of it."
Dean was shocked by this fierce side of Mia - he barely recognized her.
Was this still the gentle, kind, and sweet woman from before? She was the complete opposite of her usual self.
Dean raised his hand in a daze.
"Don't touch me, don't touch me." Mia frantically slapped Dean's hand away. "I'm telling you I never said those things or did any of that, and I don't love you. Stop being so full of yourself. If you keep accusing me like this, I'll hate you. Dr. Palmer, I will hate you."
"You..." That's not what she said before. "You don't like me at all?"
"That's right, Dr. Palmer. I only see you as a colleague, but you had these kinds of thoughts about me. Dr. Palmer, I'm so disappointed in you."
Clearly Mia was putting all the blame on Dean, distancing herself from everything. Obviously, to save herself, she had already abandoned Dean as her pawn.
Dean couldn't process Mia's sudden change. "That's not what you said before."
"Don't you get it? She doesn't love anyone. She only loves herself. She used you as a tool to climb up the ladder."
Ava said coolly. Standing nearby, she felt disgusted listening to all this.
"What do you mean?" Dean glared viciously at Ava.
Ava just smiled coldly. "Every time you confessed to her, she brushed you off saying you had a family or she was under pressure. But whenever she needed your help, she would subtly lead you on, keeping you hooked. That's your goddess, right? Am I wrong?"
Ava could see it all clearly from an outsider's perspective.
Mia's usual tactics.
Listening to Ava's words, Dean's face suddenly turned ugly. He stood there in a daze, as if struck by lightning. Even he, as foolish as he was, finally understood everything.
Dean was so angry his teeth were clenched, his face almost twisted with rage. He stared furiously at Mia and stepped closer.
"So you've been using me all along. Now that you're done with me, you're throwing me out to take the blame, is that it? You bitch."
Dean wanted nothing more than to strangle Mia right now.
Mia was nearly breaking down, backing away repeatedly. "No, no, she's lying to you. Don't believe what she says."
"You're still trying to make excuses? You think I don't know about your surgical mistakes? You think others can't see it? I risked getting blamed along with you to help you, and it turns out you were just using me. Now that you're done, you want to kick me aside, is that it?"
"No, no... it's not like that."
Mia covered her ears with both hands, shaking her head desperately like she'd gone mad.
"Mia, you're really something." Dean suddenly burst out laughing. So he'd been used by this woman like a fool all along. At this moment, he couldn't even cry.
Dean left Mia and rushed toward Thora. "Thora, I know I was wrong, I know I was wrong. I was fooled by this woman too. Let's not get divorced. Please forgive me, I'll never do it again. I'll love you properly..."
Thora looked up at him coolly. "If you knew it would come to this, why did you do it in the first place? We're definitely getting divorced."
Thora coldly pushed Dean's hand away.
Ava watched all this coldly and turned to leave.
"Ava, Ava, you bitch, don't you dare leave." Mia got up to grab Ava, but her foot slipped and she fell, drawing mocking laughter from the people nearby.
Ava turned back coolly, looking down at Mia on the ground, the corner of her mouth slightly curved. "Still not giving up?"
Mia gritted her teeth. "You ruined me, it's all your fault, Ava!"
"Never considering your own mistakes, selfish, self-centered, and arrogant. Thinking you can control everything and manipulate others. Mia, where do you get your confidence?"
"I! Did! Nothing! Wrong!"
Completely hopeless.
Ava was speechless.
Just then, someone came from outside to call Mia. "Dr. Wilson, Mr. Miller wants you in his office."
Why would Joseph be looking for her at this time? Thinking about it, Mia's face turned very ugly.
Ava suddenly smiled. "Good luck."
Thora said gratefully, "Ava, thank you."
"You're welcome, besides, I had my own reasons." Ava said calmly.
The two looked at each other and smiled. "By the way, today's your birthday, right? Happy birthday."
"Thanks."
Several doctors gathered around.
"Dr. Davis, it's your birthday today? Then let's throw you a birthday party tonight. We misunderstood you before, we're really sorry."
"Yeah, we all misunderstood you. We're really sorry. Your surgery was really amazing. We're all convinced now."
"Right, we should all go together. It's almost noon. Let's go buy gifts later, or we won't have time."
"Yes, let's all go together. Dr. Davis, you definitely can't refuse us."
"Right, Ava." Thora smiled.
The sudden enthusiasm left Ava a bit at a loss. She was slightly troubled inside - she had promised Finn, Cleo, and Isabella to celebrate together tonight, but in this situation, Ava couldn't really refuse.
Ava called Isabella and Finn and Cleo. The two little ones and Isabella all agreed to celebrate together - it would be more lively that way. So Ava thought about booking a large private room.
