At the Atkinson Group.
In Fletcher Atkinson's office, the man in his forties was kneeling before a young man in his twenties, tears streaming down his face, as if he had just seen a life-saving deity.
Fletcher clutched the hem of the young man's cheap trousers, choking up, "Defender of the South, am I dreaming? Is it really you?"
Kayden glanced down at Fletcher and said, "Get up, Firefist."
Fletcher wiped his tears as he got up from the floor.
"Defender of the South, I need to know, what really happened back then? Why did they only find the bodies of Commanders of Ten Nations but not yours?" Fletcher asked, his voice trembling.
Kayden pondered for a few seconds and said, "It's a long story. I don't know how to explain it to you right now. I'll tell you when the time is right."
"Are you the head of the Atkinson family now?" Kayden asked.
Fletcher hesitated for a moment, his expression complicated, and said, "Defender of the South, after hearing of your death, I retired from the army. My family had needed my help for a long time, but I preferred to serve by your side. Soon after I returned home, I inherited the family leadership. But, with just one word from you, I'll be ready to return to the South with you."
Fletcher might have been lying to others, but he wouldn't dare lie to Kayden. As long as Kayden remained the Defender of the South, Fletcher was willing to follow him into battle.
Kayden was the man who single-handedly intimidated the entire Seclela border. Three years ago, he had killed the ten Commanders, deterring those who coveted Seclela's territory. Who wouldn't want to follow such a man and proudly claim to be his subordinate?
Those who served under him were considered the elites in Seclela.
Kayden waved his hand and said, "I didn't come here for this. I need your help with something."
"Mr. Scott, your words are commands to me. As long as I see you, I am forever your soldier. Live for the Defender of the South, die for the Defender of the South. Anything you need, just say the word. I'll even risk my life if I must," Fletcher said solemnly.
"It's not that serious. I just need you to help my wife. You've developed a piece of land in North of the City, right? I want you to let my wife supply all the construction materials. She needs this contract now."
Fletcher stood there dumbfounded, his mouth agape, and then he spoke, "Defender of the South, you got married?"
Kayden nodded slightly, adding, "Yes, three years ago."
With a look of disbelief, Fletcher said, "Rest assured, I will arrange everything for your wife."
He wondered what kind of beauty could match this legendary warrior.
That night, after listening to Scarlett complain for hours, Georgia finally went to bed.
Kayden was already asleep. He had left the Adams family meeting room earlier that day, and Georgia didn't know where he had gone. She wanted to ask him about his health but hadn't found the opportunity.
She quietly came to Kayden's side, looking at his even breathing, and muttered to herself, "Sometimes I really wonder why Grandpa married me to you. I could have had a great life, but because of you, I've become a laughingstock in Hiphia. I kind of hate you, hate that you don't understand anything, not even how to comfort me. But I also pity you, pity that you know nothing. I really want to know what kind of person you are after regaining your memory."
As she spoke, her hand gently touched Kayden's face, like a kind mother caressing her child. This wasn't the first time she had spoken to him like this. Whenever she felt down, she would pour her heart out to Kayden.
Back then, Kayden didn't understand, but now, he understood everything.
He wasn't actually asleep, just habitually closing his eyes.
Suddenly, a warm hand grabbed Georgia's small hand. She trembled, feeling extremely startled. Kayden then opened his eyes and sat up, staring intently at her.
"What are you doing?" Georgia's face darkened as she spoke, and she reflexively pushed Kayden away.
Her push was weak and insignificant to Kayden, who didn't even budge.
After hitting him, Georgia suddenly regretted it. How could she have struck a fool? Wasn't she being too harsh?
Kayden smiled and said, "Don't worry, you'll know what kind of person I am in the future. Thank you for everything you've done for me all these years. From now on, I'll protect you! I won't let anyone in this world bully you again."
Kayden's words left Georgia in a daze. Although she had suspected that he had regained his memory, when the moment actually came, she didn't know how to react.
"Go to sleep. I can help with the contract." Kayden said calmly, then lay down again.
Georgia stood there, dumbfounded for about a minute, before slowly getting up.
She hadn't misheard or seen wrong. Kayden had indeed spoken to her and seemed to have regained his memory.
That night, Georgia tossed and turned, unable to sleep, while Kayden didn't say another word.
The next morning, Georgia woke up with dark circles under her eyes.
When she got up, Kayden was already awake.
She quickly ran to the living room, where Kayden was coming out of the kitchen with two plates of macaroni. He looked at Georgia and said, "You're up? Have some breakfast first!"
With that, Kayden sat down and started eating his plate of macaroni heartily.
Even though Georgia had known Kayden for a while, this version of him felt like a complete stranger. The old Kayden couldn't do anything, but now he made macaroni for her.
Georgia quickly composed herself and went to the dining table.
Looking at the plate of macaroni, she felt uneasy, unsure how to start.
Just then, Kayden had finished eating and turned to wash his plate.
Only then did Georgia dare to eat. As soon as she took the first bite, she was stunned.
It was delicious! She had never tasted such good macaroni.
In no time, she finished the entire plate.
At that moment, her phone rang. Old Mrs. Adams' voice came through, "Georgia, are you sure you don't want to divorce that fool?"
Georgia paused, glanced at Kayden who was washing dishes, and softly responded, "Yes, I am sure."
"Alright, since you've decided not to divorce, I won't force you. But I'll give you one week. I want to see you secure a contract with Atkinson Group. If you can't get the contract in a week, you either divorce and marry Mr. Scott, or take that fool and get out of the Adams family."
With that, Old Mrs. Adams angrily hung up.
Georgia stared at her phone, her heart racing. One week, she only had one week!
