Chapter 29 Visitors from Davendale
“Don't stop! Don't stop!!” Her words came out in an alluring whisper to Valerio.
Evyths’ breathing was rapid; her words echoed in his ears louder than the words of his ordinances as the soon-to-be king.
By now, approaching their peak, his big hand was wrapped around her slender neck while he stroked effortlessly.
Her fingernails dug into the pale prince’s skin with each stroke that he offered.
Their bodies were writhing like a tsunami, the control was beyond it. The vials and books on the shelves began to rumble bit by bit. It was daytime, yet lightning struck.
All these days were unknown to Evyths and the prince, although the prince only saw a glance of the strike.
“Arghh!” the prince groaned once he released his seed in her, his fangs gently digging the tip of her skin while Evyths' back arched.
They have never felt this way before. Pleasured. Loved. Wanted. Needed.
Evyths panted, trying to steady her breath while Valerio stared deeply at her.
Surprise. A sense of dominance. Dissatisfaction—they were all that he felt towards Evyths.
He leaned forward, kissing her lips over and over before he gently pulled away.
He rose, adjusting his pants and then removing his torn shirt.
He hung his cloak over his bare chest and stared down at Evyths’ enchanting body figure.
“I have some cloaks in the chest across, you can take any to find cover.” he opted as she nodded in silence, flashing a small smile while he corners of her green eyes followed his movements.
“I shall return to end the ritual. You can step out when you are fully recharged and ready,” he leaned down towards her and placed a wet kiss on her forehead and her neck, where his fangs had grazed earlier.
The tingle panged her a little as the prince vanished instantly.
Evyths sat up, dragging her torn clothes over her chest—a cold chill seeping across her skin.
“What… have I done?” Evyths asked herself, unsure if it was her heated desires’ lack of control towards the prince or if it was something else.
She crawled to the chest, looking through the cloaks that he had offered to her. She grabbed a black one that seemed less detailed and heavy, wrapping it around her body.
The instant regret she had seen for not only hunting her, but it was also imprinted on her heart.
“Dear goddess! I have wronged you! I lay with a vampire. Not just a vampire, the prince of them all…” her voice broke, her thoughts rattled like shards of broken glass in the orbit.
It was wrong. She knew that it was wrong and forbidden. Yet, she delved into it without questioning. Even when Valerio had halted her in the very beginning, she pushed through with it—consenting to break their decrees as vampire and werewolf.
The weight of the aftermath hung over her like a dark veil.
As soon as she stepped out of the laboratory, her eyes darted to a maid who had been standing there all alone. Instantly, the young girl dropped items into a woven basket.
“The prince has asked you to wear this. You have guests in the ballroom,”
What guests? Who wants to visit an omega after all? She asked herself, and the frown settled on her face instantly.
Before Evyths could ask more questions, the girl sprinted away. The fear in her eyes was palpable. She's heard the little rumor of Evyths’ defeat on servants like her, she did not want to be the next victim whether or not she had offended Evyths.
The girl’s act bothered Evyths. She's always liked the idea of being respected at least but from the girl’s reaction, it was more.
It was not respect, it was fear.
Evyths picked the clothes and rushed to her cell to change.
…
Some minutes later, while the ritual had long ended and the deliberation of Valerio’s coronation proceeded.
Meanwhile, the uninvited guests that swung by the palace were werewolves.
The moment that Valerio walked into the ballroom, he caught the scents of the hounds. Not one, not two, but gout of them.
However, Octavio suspected that the prince had slept with the hound given the lightning that struck in daytime. It was alarming. While everyone assumed that it was the werewolves' unwelcomed visit, Octavio knew in his gut that Valerio had violated their decrees.
He remained calm and unhinged, waiting for the best moment to confront his best friend.
Meanwhile, Valerio’s gaze darted to the Alpha king, his son, then Alpha Ryker and Beta Selena, who were both representatives of Crescent’s pack as expected.
Valerio’s upper lip twitched, his face shattered with the thickest frown ever.
His steps were majestic yet swift, and his eyes did not welcome the guests either.
“King Leon, I had no idea that you would stop by. It is a dark day for Ravencroft,” Valerio let out with an expressionless gaze as Alpha King Leon and the others rose, given the tradition of both species.
Being in others’ territory meant forceful humility if it was not the case of intended war.
Everyone also rose, honoring Valerio's presence.
“Indeed. We sighted the moon’s oddity, gray with harsh streaks of black lines. According to our lore, it hinted at something… mournful. Accept our deepest… condolences…” the alpha king stated, his sly smile hinting at something different.
“I smell otherwise. What is your true intention?” asked Valerio firmly. His tone rolled like thunder, putting each paw on high alert.
“To offer our condolences, Prince Belmont. We share a treaty and so… it is only wise to offer our deepest regrets while the treaty exists…” the alpha king, unfazed in his royal attire stated firmly.
“Alright, King Leon!” Valerio said, his tone laced with sarcasm and disbelief. “Know that I am not my father, you cannot manipulate me with cheap tales. Offer your condolences and leave. You can see, no one is wailing like a dying pup deprived of breast milk,” Valerio snapped, his intent gaze caught Ryker’s contemptuous gaze.
Alpha King Leon beamed slightly while his son and Ryker balled their fists tightly. To them, Valerio had drawn the battle line.
“Simmer down, sons! We do not have the numbers…” the alpha king said under his breath but Valerio’s sharpened senses made him smirk.
“Whether one man army or a million dogs stand in here, none of you would stand a chance,” Valerio snapped.
“Well, we come in peace, Prince Belmont. Can we talk about the progress of the antidote, time is not a friend…” the alpha king stated as Valerio remsomed still.
“That is not a problem if that is your true purpose of coming here,” Said Valerio as he sat by the table as well as everyone including the werewolves.
Vampires and werewolves were alert, every single move meant something and hinted at war. If it were not because of Valerio, the vampires would have feasted on the few werewolves and likewise the others. If it were not for the alpha king, the other werewolves would have broken out a war despite being few.
They were one of the strongest in their packs, it wouldn't be so scary to defeat the vampires.
While the werewolves looked everywhere with the corners of their eyes for Evyths who had just done something remarkable earlier. Transforming.
“I assure you, the concoction is highly concentrated. In a little while, I shall send a message to you, King Leon…” Valerio said evenly.
“Did you discover… anything strange?” the alpha king asked, his gaze narrowing as if he knew something that Valerio did not.
Valerio scoffed lightly, “And what could that be?”
“Anything. At all!” Leon snapped.
“I see!” said Valerio. “I have seen nothing, except that you mean to insult my expertise at this point…”
“Far from it, Prince Belmont!” the alpha king clicked his tongue, his dry chuckle was beginning to rile Valerio all over again.
Valerio knew what they wanted, they wanted to see Evyths after they had caught the glimpse of her wolf and the undeniable calmness she showed towards him.
He knew their motive but he remained adamant and insisted that they leave his kingdom.
“I have had enough, King Leon. Gather your hounds and leave my kingdom at once. Your refusal would mean breaching the treaty and demanding war,” the prince stated firmly as he rose.
The alpha king’s son and Alpha Ryker whispered between themselves while Selena smirked.
Valerio and his clan saw the mockery. Octavio shot Valerio a knowing look that spelled attack but Valerio managed to keep things subtle.
The war would be a distraction and their shared enemies; the hunters and their hybrids would seize the moment.
“Leave!” Valerio ordered for the last time as the alpha king nodded forcefully. He did not want to leave just yet.
When the alpha king signaled the others that they should heed Valerio instead, Evyths innocently walked into the ballroom in a white sheer dress resembling royalty while get red hair that was decorated with ancient, complicated hairpins that was meant only for vampires, catching the eyes of every vampire and werewolf.
The shock and disbelief left them hanging, especially the werewolves—who Ryker—had despised her from the very beginning.
“My prince, you sent for me!” Evyths said as she bent, swallowing hard when her eyes landed on her rejected mate and probably his new mate.
The tension sulked the air.
