Chapter 350 Chapter 350

Chapter 350 Chapter 350
Helping her secure the vest on, he’d avoided looking at the scar this time, because he needed to have a clear mind and not get bogged down with anger and thoughts of vengeance. He could feel rain in the air, so that moisture, even though rain was anything but fresh or pure now, would sustain him for the day.

“Those names you were saying last night, are they people you’ve met?”

Terah put her jacket on but left it open.

Konner couldn’t help looking at the way her skin shimmered along the edge of the vest. Maybe it was because she was so new to freshwater, but it seemed as if her skin sparkled like no others he’d seen in years.

“No. They are who I came from.”  She went over and picked up the backpack and put it on.

“You know these off by heart?”  He went over and picked up the duffle bag and put it over his shoulder. Adjusting the gun on his side, he made sure he could reach it without hindrance. When he looked back at her, she stood there with a strange look on her face.

“My heart doesn’t know them, my head does.” She stated with a straight face.

Konner smirked, “off by heart is a saying, it’s not literal.”

“Oh.” She watched him for a moment. “Yes, I know them off by my heart.” She smiled.

Konner rested his hand on his swim pack. She knew her history. If the names were in the records he had, he could trace her lineage. “Later, would you mind if I recorded them?”  He watched her reaction, “I can look them up when we get back and see where your family was from.”

“Record?” That was the only thing she said.

He nodded, “on my phone, it will record what you’re saying so I can hear it later.”

A shocked look appeared on her face. “Like the radio?”

He opened his mouth to explain, then just nodded instead.

“Okay. I will say them later to your phone.”

His swim pack vibrated against his side. With quick movements, he got it out and answered it without looking to see who was calling.

“Flores,” Raymond said as soon as the line was open.

“Yeah.” Terah watched him carefully.

“We found them.”

Konner turned and looked around them.

“They had it well hidden, deep in the bush. Used portable generators and signal boosters to communicate.”

“How many?” He pulled out his map and knelt, so he could use his knee to open it up.

“Eight. Fresh from Tomas’ idiot survival school.”

Konner smirked at the amused tone. “Did they have anything on the camp?”

“They were narrowing down where it was. The prince was surprised they didn’t know. Seems they had visitors there from Tomas when the princess arrived. I guess they kept their mouths shut, but—we got them just in time, thanks to you.”

Terah came over and looked down at the map.

“Always happy to total an Alliance vehicle to further the cause.” He wondered if it would be taboo to ask Rayne about Aiden Tomas.

“Are you still near that lake?”

Konner looked down at the map, “just leaving it.” He followed the river they were going to try to reach by noon. “If we keep going toward the river, we should be there by noon, then it’s a quick trip in for our ride to get to us.”

“Yeah, I see it. I’ll send Tripp from S.O. to meet up with you at the river.”  He heard a radio squawk in the background, “you’ll have to share the route to your place from there.”

Konner folded the map and put it in his pack. “No need. We just need a lift to my chopper.”

Raymond laughed, “someday you might have to share that chunk of oasis, my friend.”

Shrugging, he pointed in the direction they were going to be walking. “I will be more than happy to share it when the time comes, you know that, but until then, let me enjoy my peace and quiet.”

“I’m going to let you go. I want to prepare our best guest suites for our new visitors that will be here later.”

Konner grinned, hoping they were able to get more information from the men that had been sent to get Terah. “Tell your man to announce his arrival when he gets there, surprises could be painful.”

Raymond laughed, “I’ll be sure to relay the message.”

Konner caught up to her after he put his phone away. “We should be at the Sanctuary by morning.”

She stopped and looked at him. “I can’t wait to see it.”

“Tripp will take us to the chopper, and it will be a lot faster getting there.”

Frowning, she studied his face. “Chopper?”

“Helicopter,” he pointed up, “we’ll fly in.”

Her brows creased. “I did not like the chopper to the camp.”

Konner rubbed his hand over his jaw, “you weren’t in very good shape then. This time I will be able to fly over the lake and land and show you.”

She seemed to ponder this for a moment. “I want to see the lake.”

Konner lifted his hand for her to start walking again. “We should get moving, the rain is going to slow things down.”

Terah blinked, her eyes going wide. “Is that the smell in the air?” She looked up, “rain?”

“That’s what it is.” He didn’t say there was a good chance it would turn into snow if the temperatures dropped enough.

“I’ve never been in the rain.”
