Chapter 35: Exposed secret

LUCIAN:

I walked out of the diner feeling better than I had when I entered.

Moving towards my car, I saw a body leaning on it. I didn't need a prophet to tell me who it was.

Her blonde hair gave it away.

He brought her here.

He'd been following me everywhere I went yet I didn't do anything to stop it.

Maybe it's time to finally end it. I thought to myself.

Taking my time, I moved slowly till I got to her.

Her eyes were trained on the ground so she saw my shoes first.

Before she could raise her head, I placed my hands on both sides of her, caging her between my body and the car.

One look at her and I knew what was going on in her head. She wanted an explanation, but my head was blank.

She stared into my eyes and I could see the anger brewing.

"What do you have to say for yourself?” Her voice came out cold, eyes still on me.

I released a breath I hadn't known I was holding.

At least she hasn't shut me out yet.

There were a lot of things I could say but the only thing that came out was, "I'm sorry.”

"You're sorry? Will that bring back the person you killed?” She yelled.

"It was either him or I. Didn't have much of a choice there.” I tried to reason with her.

"Don't tell me that. You had a choice not to come here in the first place but you chose otherwise. What if you hadn't won?" She stared at me waiting for an answer.

She just didn't know I always won.

"How do you feel taking people's lives like they mean nothing? They have a family you know. Are you that heartless?" There was so much fury in her eyes as she said the words.

"Do. You. Even. Have. A. Heart?" The words came out in a cold expressionless tone.

I don't but I wasn't about to tell her that.

"You're speechless, huh?" Her eyes searched mine but she found nothing.

"Maybe I need time away from you.” She exhaled before attempting to push me away but I didn't let her.

Wrapping my arms around her waist, I rested my chin on her shoulder.

"I'm sorry.” I muttered.

"Sorry doesn't change anything.”

"Will you forgive me?" I tried again.

"You should ask his family.”

Urgggh...

What I'm I gonna say?

"You have to stop fighting.”

Impossible.

"I don't want to see you here anymore.” She added.

"I'll try.”

I hated that I was lying to her but I couldn't stop fighting.

"You will do it. If I have to keep tabs on you I will.”

She's so stubborn and I can't help loving her.

"I love you.” I muttered, nuzzling her neck.

"If that's your way of making me let go, you've failed.”

I chuckled against her neck.

I raised my head to see it was getting dark.

"Come home with me.”

"No.”

I raised my brows in question.

"I haven't forgiven you.”

Without waiting for her consent, I picked her up and carried her to the passenger seat. I strapped on her seatbelt, amidst her struggles.

Thereafter, I got into the car and pulled out of the parking lot.

Her eyes were burning holes into the side of my face.

"If you're gonna be mad at me, do it while you're with me.”

She rolled her eyes before turning to face the window.

Halfway through the drive, she finally turned to me but her eyes met my hands on the steering wheel.

"You're injured.” His fingers grazed my knuckles.

I shrugged.

"Do you have a first aid kit at home?" She questioned, some of the anger fading.

I nodded a yes.

"So that means you do this often.” She was referring to me fighting.

"Kinda.”

"For how long?"

Since I lost my mom.

"Can't remember.” My eyes were still on the road.

She was quiet for the rest of the drive.

Getting home, we got out of the car and she practically dragged me into the house, to my room.

"Where's your first aid kit?" She asked after sitting me on the bed.

I pointed out a drawer to her.

She got it and began cleaning my knuckles but not before I pulled her to straddle me.

When she was done, I took a bath and joined her on the bed. She changed from her clothes into my t-shirt.

I loved seeing her in my clothes.

I pulled her to me, wrapping my hand around her waist as she placed her head on my chest.

"Angel?" Her voice broke the silence.

"Yeah….”

"You still haven't told me why you were almost killed and who they were.” She stared at me in anticipation.

I knew this was coming.

Shit! I cursed internally, while I thought of a quick lie.

"Just some guys my dad had a business deal with.” I lied.

"Why would they want to kill you?" She narrowed her brows.

"The deal didn't favor them so they wanted to get back at my dad.”

"So who killed them?” I could hear the doubt in her voice.

I didn't know how much longer I'd continue to lie to her before my cover got blown.

"Cops. They've been watching out for me since my dad knew those men were after me.”

Great! My subconscious mocked.

She looked away from me. I knew there was more she wanted to say.

"What's going on in your head?" I asked, tilting her chin so she was looking into my eyes.

"I just don't want you to endanger yourself.” She said in a small voice.

"Quit worrying about me. Just trust me okay?"

She answered with a nod.

I sealed my lips with hers and kissed her.

Breaking away from the kiss, I kissed her head but she was still staring into my eyes.

"Baby, say what's on your mind.”

"Umm... did you…" she paused, looking away from me.

"Look at me.” Her eyes found mine. "Speak.”

"Do you really love me?" She asked in a barely audible voice like she was scared to let the words out.

"More than you can imagine.”

"I love you too.” She replied before kissing me.

I want to be with her forever if only it's possible. Those were my thoughts as I deepened the kiss.
