KRIS:
"I miss you.” I heard his deep voice before his face came into view.
He wasn't back so we were facetiming.
He was lying on a bed covered with a blanket but his chest was exposed.
I missed lying on that chest.
"I miss you more.” I replied pouting.
It's been four weeks since he left and today was one of the few days he picked my calls.
"How have you been?" He asked, stifling a yawn.
"I'm not okay"
"I'm guessing It has to do with me?"
"Yes. When are you coming back?"
"I really don't know but I'll try to conclude everything on time okay?"
"Fine.” I drawled "I need to sleep now. We'll talk some other time?"
"Alright. Goodnight Angel.”
"Night love.”
He ended the call.
Lying on my bed, I fell into a dreamless sleep.
__________________________________________________________
A loud horn blared from outside, announcing Jake's arrival.
He's been taking me to school since Lucian left. I should probably drive myself but when he offered to be my chauffeur I couldn't say no. Having a personal driver is a girl's dream.
Getting my bag from the kitchen island, I ran outside with toast in hand.
"Why are you always so early?" I whined, still munching on the food in my mouth.
"Good eating habits, Kris.” I rolled my eyes at that.
"Whatever. Now take me to school driver.” I got into the car to wait for him as I finished my food.
"You're bossy ain't you?" He started the car and the engine roared to life.
Pulling out of the parking lot, he headed for school.
After a while, I noticed he was going the wrong way.
"Hey...where are you going?” I looked at him and went back to the road again.
"School?" He shrugged.
"This is not the way.”
"Shortcut. We're late already.”
"Ohh.” I focused on the road since I haven't passed it before.
He drove for a few minutes till we got to a part of the road that was blocked with three cars in such a way that it was hard to see what was after them.
"So good for taking the short path.” I rolled my eyes.
"It's not usually blocked.”
"So something must be happening?” My curious mind was already in action.
"Seems so. Wanna check it out or we should just revise and take the other road?”
We could just take the other road but I really wanted to know what was happening on the other side.
"Let's check it out.” He shook his head in amusement before we got out of the car.
We somehow meandered our way through the cars blocking the road. We were about to pass the last car but what we saw forced us to stop.
From where we were, we could see five men, all in black standing around a guy. He was on his knees with hands above his head like he was surrendering and head down. The men pointed guns at him.
"Oh my God.”
Immediately that left my mouth, Jake gripped my hand tightly and his other hand covered my mouth.
"Shhhh.” he whispered in my ears. He shook his head at me as if telling me no.
I replied with a nod and he slowly removed his hand from my mouth.
He held my hand and signified for me to follow him back to his car. I should have obeyed instantly, but my stubborn self turned once more towards the direction of the men and my eyes met the guy in the middle.
Piercing silver eyes stared into my soul.
Lucian.
Oh my God.
I froze in my tracks.
I was about to scream, but he shook his head, telling me a silent no before taking his eyes off me.
Jake's hand flew to cover my mouth as he silently cursed.
My heart was now beating very fast, threatening to jump out of my chest.
Jake tried pulling me away but I couldn't move. It was as if my feet were rooted to that spot.
I felt my cheeks get wet with tears I hadn't known were streaming down my face.
My head kept screaming:
*They're going to kill him. He's going to die. I won't see him again*.
One of the men must have said something because they all started laughing.
Jake made a sign with his hands, that I should close my eyes but I just couldn't do it.
I didn't want him to die. I couldn't stand to watch him die. But I just couldn't look away.
His eyes met mine again. It felt like he was telling me goodbye. He closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, bullets flew out of nowhere hitting the men. In a twinkle of an eye, they were all lying dead in a pool of their own blood.
I'd never seen so much blood.
Lucian was still in their middle, kneeling.
I was going to scream but Jake's hand was still tightly around my mouth.
He pulled me with him and this time, my legs cooperated. Tears were still streaming down my face.
We got into the car and zoomed away from there.
"I'm taking you home.”
"No! No. School.” I objected. I didn't want to be home alone after witnessing that.
I was scared shitless.
He nodded.
Moments later, he pulled into Queens high. I sat in the car and tried to fix my face before I stepped out.
Jake let out a breath.
"You shouldn't have seen that.” He finally said. "Lucian is going to cause you a lot of trouble.” He added.
I wasn't ready to talk about Lucian nor have this conversation with Jake. So, I did the only sane thing I could.
Without answering him, I carried my bag and got out of the car, walking into the school building.
Everywhere was quiet and normal with classes in progress as though my skin wasn't crawling from what I'd witnessed and my heart wasn't about to make a mad dash out of my chest.
Swallowing the lump that had formed in my throat, I did my best to steady my steps as I walked to my class. I entered the classroom and all eyes were on me.
I must have looked like shit but at that moment, I had no care in the world for my looks.
"Get a seat Miss. Morgan.” The teacher said, My eyes scanned the class for an empty seat but in the process, they met with Val's. Tears Immediately stung my eyes.
I didn't need anything to remind me of Lucian or what I'd just witnessed so I shot out of the classroom for the restroom.
I stayed in one of the stalls of the girls’ restroom for most of the day and thankfully, no one came to look for me.
When it was time for my last class, I made my way towards the class, with my eyes on the floor.
All eyes were on me as I passed the hallway but I didn't acknowledge them. I was just glad my friends hadn't found me.
I raised my head for a nano second and again they met with Val's. He was leaning on his locker, staring at me with sympathy.
Does he know? Is Lucian fine? What happened?
These questions clouded my head.
He nodded at me before walking away.
Thankfully, I got into the class without bumping into anyone I know. I found a seat at the back and sat down. Soon the teacher came in and the class commenced.
Few minutes into the lecture, the door opened with a loud bang.
We all looked up and there he was.
His silver eyes found me instantly. He looked normal except for a bruise under his left eye.
"Mr. Fox y…"
"Kris. Come with me.” His cold voice interrupted the teacher.
