Chapter 86

The last festival I went to was like, what, two years back? I was around eighteen then. Wasn't really my thing, you know? 'Cause, well, there was this guy I kinda had a thing for, but he was already has a mate. Didn't want people gossiping, and saying stuffs like I was going to turn out like my mom. It's not cool when people think that way about your mom, especially when they call her names. They didn’t know her like I did. She was just unlucky in love, that’s all. Anyway, I didn’t want people saying she raised me wrong or that I’d end up just like her in the bad ways. So, I kept my crush to myself.

I didn't wanna go to the festival also 'cause I wasn't ready to meet my mate, even though deep down, I knew that's what me and my wolf needed. But, like, I just couldn't. Couldn't bring myself to go looking for my mate when I still had feelings for someone else. It's like my heart was stuck in two places at once, so, I decided to sit that festival out, didn't wan to mess things up even more. Besides, Avery wouldn't let me, she said I was too young to be in the midst of many men or women and I might get pregnant before the night ended.

If course my father agreed with her, duh, she was the love of his life.

When I couldn't bear the pains and thought any longer, I sneaked out and began walking miles to the festival, hitching every safe ride I saw.

I wouldn't be at home trying to numb myself when the reason I was doing it was preparing to go the fourth round of sex with his mate. Besides, if I met my mate there and we had sex then I would forget I ever loved someone. Maybe, maybe not.

I didn't realize I was lost in thought, staring at my reflection in the mirror, when Cecil suddenly interrupted me. “Take a backup dress, don't say I didn't warn you,” she smirked, stuffing her things into her matching purse.

I glared at her. “Really, Cecil? A backup dress?”

She shrugged, still smirking. “You never know. Better safe than sorry.”

I rolled my eyes and twirled around again, checking how I looked from every angle. I mean, I was feeling pretty confident in my outfit. The dress fit perfectly, hugging my curves in all the right places.

“And your mate might have a period kink,” I shot back with a smug smile, trying to get a rise out of her.

It was her turn to glare at me, muttering curses under her breath. It was pretty funny, actually. I couldn't help but tease her a bit more. “Hey, and you never know, he might also be into rough, bloody sex” I said, wiggling my eyebrows.

She made a disgusted expression then shook her head and sighed, but I could tell she was trying not to laugh.

“Yeah, yeah,” she muttered, finally breaking into a reluctant smile. “Just don’t come crying to me if you walk out of your sexcapdes with a torn dress.”

“Nothing’s going to go wrong,” I said confidently, smoothing out a nonexistent wrinkle. “I’ve got this. Besides, no one said i was going to have sex tonight”

“Famous last words,” she said with a chuckle, finally zipping up her purse. “Ready to go?”

“Almost,” I replied, grabbing my own purse and double-checking that I had everything. “Okay, now I’m ready.”

After a few more minutes of joking around, I picked up my phone from the bed, and we finally headed out the door. Zara joined us halfway down the stairs. She wasn't really that dressed up but she had a little make-up on because of my persistence.

She had said she was only going to the festival because I was going. It was her duty to follow me and make sure nothing ruined my night. she didn't have a mate so I thought it'd be best if she looked feminine-nice for once and see if her mate would be there

The driver had already brought the Cadillac out from the garage. I sighed in relief when I saw it, happy that Damon didn’t leave with it.

Cecil’s expression went from ‘bored and tired’ to ‘the earth is beautiful’ when she saw the car.

“Damn, girl.” She handed her purse to Zara and walked around the car, inspecting it. “Is this our ride?”

“Yes,” I laughed, watching as she ran her nails over the sleek surface and then came back to take her purse. “Very well then, tonight is going to be good for me.”

Th driver opened the door, and we all piled into the back seat, Zara sitting up front with the driver.

It was a few minutes to nine when we arrived, and we could barely hear ourselves. The classical music was too loud, and hundreds of people were scattered everywhere while some were inside the pack house.

The driver came to a halt just in front of the carpet and I ans Zara came out. I gently stepped on the red carpet that led into the house/mansion and was pretty amazed by the theme and designs Damon chose. Pretty cool if you asked me.

I knew I shouldn't be complimenting his work but I praise something beautiful and amazing when I see one. As it wasn't like I was going to meet him up there and say ‘hey, the decorw is beautiful, I love you’

Okay, that was cringe and grossful.

People flanked on both sides of the carpet, a few with cameras and phone taking pictures that I was prolly going to see on the pack's blog tomorrow afternoon.

As soon as I slammed the car door shut, the yelling, cheering, and chatter died down. I felt my purse vibrate, and then it chimed. The music was lower now. It was the respect I got, and besides, I was the one they were waiting for to commence the festival.
