Chapter 48 A promise she can't make!

Chapter 48 A promise she can't make!
48\. A promise she can't make!

"Damien?" She softly whispered, too shocked to react any other way.

Just some while ago she was hoping to see him. She had a desire to sit next to him and enjoy the view of the starry sky above and enjoy his favorite flavor of ice cream.

Aurora was hanging out with her new friend, her mind regardless, so much as imagined him. Now that he was here— she wished he wasn't.

"D-damien," Aura crossed the distance lying between them and paused in front of him.

She had to lift her head in order to meet his eyes and force a shivering smile on her face.

She wanted to feed his doubt with the truth he was yet to know regarding her developing and strengthening friendship with Rosario, unfortunately she could not avoid the tremors crawling down her back and hands.

"I missed you so mu—"

"In the car, Aurora." Her teeth clenched together in utter fear.

His tight tone was the last thing she wanted to hear on their first encounter after an agonizing extended separation. Also her hands that were going to wrap around his neck and pull him in a soothing hug, that would have made him feel relaxed and reduce his temper, froze near his front, wide-stretched.

"Come on, hop in." Then without giving her red horrified face a glance, he spun and started his walk.

She followed him without wasting a second. Aura did not look behind either as she feared it might just piss him more. For him, Rosario was still a close person who was more than a friend. Though they never shared any relationship, Damien knew him as anything but a friend to Aurora.

She slipped in the seat next to the driver's and the car started off. Her eyes set affixed in her lap at her squirming sweaty fingers as she stressed her brain to come up with excuses or topics they could talk about. Or at least something that would coerce him to open his mouth and answer her even if he doesn't want to.

"Why didn't you tell me yesterday or before that you would be coming home soon? You don't even know how much I missed you." She pouted as she stretched her hand out to grace his lap with a delicate touch of her hand.

Damien tensed under her palm. A muscle quivered at his jaw and lips pressed together. He was holding his anger. Looking at him like that, Aurora's stomach twisted tightly and her fragile control almost snapped but she held it together. Gosh, he was making her shake in increasing irresolution.

"Why don't you talk to me?" She softly muttereasked.

She had no more energy to resist his fierce silence. A silent Damien was a thousand times fiercer than his angry version.

"Is it because you saw me with Rosario why you would not talk?" She asked in a shaky tone.

She was trying not to let tears blur her vision when she sensed the car was being pulled over by the side of the street under a burning street lamp. Slowly, timidly like a kitten, she upped her eyes only to meet his hardening golden eyes. He gave her an intense look of anger mixed with disappointment and a rush of trepidation trembled her spine.

Damien never seemed so mad before.

"You met with an accident, right?" She heard him ask.

She replied with a nod and controlled her tears.

Damien parted his mouth wanting to ask why he wasn't informed of the matter but Aura spoke before that, "I was afraid you'd cancel your business trip and come back. But I also knew how important it was. That's why I insisted Madam Martha and Rosario to not let the news reach you. But I have promised to myself that as soon as you're back, I will tell you about the accident before I tell you how much I missed you." She kept looking in her lap, fearing that he might notice her tears.

She should not care less for he was a wolf. His wolfy abilities must have caught the smell of salt in the air. Regardless of that she wanted to do everything possible in her hands to avoid every possibility.

"Rosario suggested that I tell you about the accident but I didn't want to disturb you."

"You can never disturb me, Aura." Unmoving, he instantly announced.

She was not finished yet. She kept his statement aside and completed her words, "I knew you would leave everything aside and come over— Which is something I never want to happen." She took a deep breath and finally raised her teary eyes.

Aura smiled sadly because as predicted he was staring at her. Her tears stole his attention and his open hung in daze. Then a sigh escaped his mouth probably in realization that his stern behavior was the reason behind her watery gaze.

Then he unfastened his seatbelt in a swift motion and jumped out of the seat as hastily as possible. He walked around the bonnet and came to her side to open her door. She was taken in his arms delicately like a perishable item. Damien took her in front of the Lamborghini and made her sit on the hood.

As his hands went on either side of her lap while leaning forward, she sobbed and whispered, "I don't want to affect your business life, Damien. It's not unknown to me how hard you work. I just… didn't want to worry you."

"You can never worry me, Aura. Never ever." Alpha Damien sighed near her mouth.

There are so many things he'd wanted to do but at the moment he only settled with joining their foreheads while one of his hands slipped behind her head to hold her in his itching palm.

He felt her shudder just like she had over their first close encounter. A smile erupted on his mouth as he leaned further and kissed her cheek— kissing her tears away.

No words were needed further. They understood each other's feelings without communicating them.

His protective hold on the back of her head and her submissively faithful touch on his shoulder conveyed their emotions. Fear was replaced with contentment. His anger with gratitude.

"I am glad you are fine. You have no idea how crazy I grew when I was told your car met with a fatal accident." There was restlessness lacing each word. "I can't imagine a life without you, love. And honestly," Damien bit his mouth as he flickered his eyes, glaring away. "I am not immune enough to lose another mate. Not you, Aurora. I love you more than I loved my destined mate. You don't know how long I have been loving you secretly. Even before I met her. Even before I understood what love meant or felt. You are just… just my entire world now."

He took her hands in his heated ones and dipped his face in her palms.

"Please… I beg you, Aurora, please never ever hide anything from me." He urgently said, in a tone that tightened Aurora's throat and amplified her heartbeats.

"I can excuse anything and everything but hidden truths. Please, promise me that you would share everything with me. Even a small petty distant thought bothering you. Promise me, Aura!" When his head inclined, he had hope and an urgent need.

Aurora tried to look away but failed. She even tried to force her mouth to beam— except it was not happening.

"Damien, I…" She cannot make a promise for something she has been doing with him—hiding truths, since the commencement of their love story.

"Come on, Aura, give me your promise. I am waiting." He said and ascended his hand for her to make a promise by placing her palm on his .

Gosh, she really wished the earth could open for her right now.
