Chapter 127 The goodbye (last)

Chapter 127 The goodbye (last)
127\. The Goodbye (last chapter)

Eight months later,

Under the cool shadow of blooming cherry blossom trees, Aura sat on a mat as she tossed grapes in her mouth. She enjoyed the burbling of shimmery water in the nearby pond. With birds chiming gaily, gazelles roaming freely, colorful butterflies and dragonflies fluttering excitedly in the air, and a colony of rabbits and squirrels jumping and running around them, she fancied the sight of her eight months old daughter crawling on the soft bed of grasses and small flowers alongside their new family member, Venice.

He was a month old baby dog Brian bought for Anna. A new friend whom she could play and grow up with. Initially Venice was scared in his new house as he was bought from the owner of his mother. The man could not afford to raise three golden retriever babies hence he gave them away. When Brian was offered one, he instantly accepted him for he was going to be Anna's first ever friend.

"Anna, no! Come back here at once." Aura cried, realizing that her eight months old daughter was crawling farther and farther away with her equally eager friend.

She stopped, turned around to beam at her mother then resumed her crawling. "This girl!" Aura was about to get up when a hand came around her waist.

"Sit here with me, love, I need my lucky charm with me." Alpha Damien kissed her waist as he placed his head on her lap and hugged her waist.

"She's becoming like you– all stubborn and annoying." Aura's fingers sank in the depth of his hair and massaged his scalp.

She lowered her head and took his lips for a kiss. This wolf… sexy but ruthless wolf was more important than breaths for her. Aura didn't hesitate to slide her tongue in his mouth and kiss him urgently. There were other lives breathing around them but she didn't care. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and relished her husband's mouth.

Eight months ago, Damien really freaked her out. The dagger in his chest and his overflowing blood made her heart beats drop. She thought she would lose him. Hadn't it been for the blessings of the moon goddess and her whole-heartedness, Aura would have lost him.

The doctors said that the dagger missed his heart by half an inch. It was because his heart was unharmed they managed to heal him and give Aura her husband back overnight.

"She's going too far, Damien. Let me go and bring her back." Aura said as she noticed her daughter going further away.

Damien followed her gaze and smiled. "She's exploring the world with her friend, Aura. Let them enjoy themselves."

"But,"

"It's okay, sweetheart. The guards are there. They won't let her go away." Damien concluded the conversation and focused back on the board of chess between him and Brian.

While he busied himself with the coins of the chessboard, Aurora beamed admiring at her good boy, her son, Venice.

He was as happy as Anna when he was helped out of the car and onto the ground. This was a picnic planned at the last moment by Brian on account of his mate, Zara's birthday. She ran into Brian on the same night eight months ago when Damien was rushed in the hospital to save his life.

She was twenty-five year, three years younger than Brian. A doctor by profession and a human. She recently shifted to Manhattan not long before she met him in the hospital.

"You know what Brian, whenever you are on the verge of losing a game, you start throwing tantrums." She remarked, which earned her a dark glare from the beta male.

"You better don't talk when I am mad, Zara Brian Filip." Zara blushed as he addressed her with her new name. They got married five days ago.

Zara was sitting next to Aura on the mat. Her knees were pulled near her chest as she softly giggled seeing Brian cringe his nose. He was playing chess with Damien beside them.

The dudes were boring as hell but their frequent arguments kept the girls entertained. Their swearing and cursing was hilarious.

"Accept you're dumb, Brian." Damien said, winking at Zara. "You can't win a game of chess against me. You never did. And you can't win this either. I suggest you yeild before your ass is kicked in front of your mate."

Zara suppressed her laughs. Well, it was because of her why these guys were playing chess in the first place. She mentioned that she loved chess and would like to learn. Alpha Damien (a pro chess player) offered to teach her but Brian barged in. He claimed to be a good player as well and Damien mocked him.

This led to a heated argument until they ended up challenging each other for a chess game. Then the chess was arranged by Damien's bodyguards, the girls became the audience, and silence prevailed after Anna was distracted and left with Venice to explore the surroundings with rabbits and squirrels chasing and running with them.

"This time I will win. You just wait and watch, Hunter." Brian said with an arrogant look.

This went on for five minutes. It was a tough competition and indeed Brian was doing his best. Even Damien was amazed. His eyebrows hid under his disarrayed hair falling on his forehead as he observed his beta male make another move with a pawn that eliminated one of his pawns.

"I am bored, Brian. Let's call it an end." Running his hand through his hair, Alpha Damien sighed.

He was getting bored. Hence, he used it to defeat Brian so they could do something else.

Then Brian lost his queen and bishop, the only two coins he was left with beside five pawns and a helpless king. Moving his rook across the king, Damien announced, "Check, and mate."

Then he dropped his head in Aura's lap and twisted on his stomach.

"An Alpha is born to win, Beta Brian." His hands went behind her back and he hugged her, taking breaths of utter relief in her lap.

Brian grunted and hissed beside him and slapped the chessboard away.

"Brian," He stormed away angrily, Zara quickly rose to her feet and rushed behind him.

Aura smiled while gaping at the newly weds as they stopped right before Anna and picked her up. Brian kissed both her cheeks and said something to Zara. Her lips stretched in a big grin and she started talking to her daughter with a face full of expressions.

"They will be good parents. Just look at how they are holding Anna. Looks like she's their own to love and cherish." Damien lifted his face and a smile made its own way on his mouth.

"I pray Zara becomes a mother soon. I don't want my daughter to call him her true father than me." He playfully stated.

A wind raced across the garden, swirling fallen petals of cherry blossoms and brushed their faces. The mat was hardly visible now as hundreds of pink, soft, and fragrant leaves blanketed their mat and jumped in their laps. The birds sang in the background, giving the environment a romantic touch.

"You know every time I look at you I am reminded of one of the poems by Nicholas Gordon. He's my favorite poet."

"Really?"

"I love reading poems and a friend recommended his poems during college. One of his poems touched my heart and every time I read it, I feel like it was written on me."

"Do you remember it? Tell me how this poem goes." Damien unwrapped his hands and used them to sit straight beside her.

He played with some strands of her straight hair and began, "Okay, so the poem is named I USED TO BE COMPLETELY CRUEL AND HEARTLESS. And it goes like this:

I used to be completely cruel and heartless, Using girls, then tossing them aside.

I used to feel an angry, bitter hunger, Not knowing why, nor looking much inside.

I used to think the goal of life was pleasure: My own, of course, whatever that might take.

A woman’s feelings had to be her problem. Self-sacrifice was always a mistake.

And so, with just the slightest twinge of conscience, I hunted for my lonely ecstasy; And even when I wanted a companion, The only one I cared about was me.

We make our worlds, like God, in our own image: Mine was a metropolis of stone In which all souls were either fools or cynics, Doomed to take their pleasure on their own.

And then I fell in love with you, and somehow Your happiness meant more to me than mine.

The desert became green and lush with flowers, And like a sun my heart began to shine."

As he finished, his gorgeous woman combined her lips with the warm skin of his forehead.

"This is wonderful, Damien. And I must agree, it does sound familiar with your life's journey. Like Mr. Gordon exclusively penned the poem for you." He smiled and reverted the shower of kisses on her forehead.

"I know right." He put a hand around her shoulders. "The end of the poem is my favorite though."

They looked ahead of them at the newly wed couple with their daughter. Anna was playing with Zara as she held their Golden Retriever to her chest. She was holding his front paws and making him dance. Anna jumped happily in Brian's arms, shaking her little body as her godfather sang a nursery rhyme Anna was fond of, Mary had a little lamb. Here, Brian replaced Mary's name with Anna's and lamb with dog.

So it sounded like: Anna had a little dog, little dog, little dog. Anna had a little dog, his furs as soft as silk.

"Aura," He whispered and she looked back at Damien. "You're the treasure of my life, my love, my wife, my mate, My everything. I love you so much."

"I love you more, my alpha."

She had no other words to say. Leaning in slowly, she placed her head on his shoulder and continued to watch Anna and her beautiful smile.

Life had never been so beautiful before. For someone with a status as low as the pack's mortal omega, Aurora never tried to dream big. She assumed hardship was the true meaning of life and she studied hard, so she could help her parents by getting a good job that paid well.

She never imagined she'd lose them and that it would lead her in the arms of the young and handsome alpha. From working as his housekeeper to becoming his mate. From being his secret crush to secret girlfriend. From being doubted to being loved possessively. Her journey had been adventurous.

As she lifted her thick lashes, she found Damien smiling at her.

A long finger traced a line along her jaw before he pressed a kiss to her mouth, savoring her petal-soft lips like a man parched for decades. She gladly let him breach her mouth and take long sips unless she ran out of oxygen.

Pulling apart, she joined their foreheads.

"I love you a lot." Alpha Damien hushed.

"I love you too." Aura hugged him tightly.
