Chapter 49
Esmeralda POV
The next day, I was discharged from the hospital. I had told Adrien not to bother with bringing the children to visit last night.
As I would be going home to see them.
I rode in the car with Adrien. Who kept watching me every second as though he couldn’t believe the fact that I was alive.
When we got home, the children were shocked and happy to see me. They kept hugging and kissing my face.
I also noticed Kiela standing at the edge of the room. She looked quite shy and uncertain about whether to say hello to me or not.
I walked to her. And greeted her instead. “Hey darling, what is your name?”
“Kiela. Are you my new mummy?”
Well, that had me dumbfounded during the ride to this place. Adrien told me that she had been staying with him and the children since the time I got involved in an accident.
And that she had learned to adjust to everything and was even friends with Nora and Noah.
“Do you wish for me to be your new mummy?”
She blushed. Then moved to hug me. “Welcome back, Ms Esme. Thanks for loving my dada.”
My heart warmed instantly. She said this meant Adrien must have briefed her through everything.
So I didn’t have to handle the awkward conversations with a five years old
Then I talked to the kids some more. It was so beautiful.
At some point, I got emotional with the tears.
Margaret was also with them. And she also showered me with so much love.
“I missed you so much, momma. I promise I would never say bad words to you.” Nora cooed as she hugged me tight.
I ruffled her hair. Smiling. “I missed you too, baby.”
“We came to the hospital and sang songs. Read stories. So that you wouldn’t feel lonely.” Noah commented.
Earning a chuckle from me.
“I’m glad to see you are Alright, boss.” Margaret chipped in.
“I have never been better.”
I remember Adrien telling me how supportive she had been by helping look after the children and being there for them.
I felt so lucky to have someone like her. Someone who can assist me even in my weak state.
“That’s enough. Your momma has to rest. The doctor said she needs lots of rest so she can recover well.”
“Okay, dada.”
And I was motioned to the stairs then tucked into bed. They all left me, but not before Nora and Noah kissed me on my forehead.
When they were all gone, I was left with Adrien.
He arranged the duvet more so it would cover me some more.
“Get well soon.” He muttered.
I smiled. “Thank you once again. For everything.”
“And thank you for opening your eyes and being alive.”
“I dont know what I would do if you were not in my life anymore.” He completed. The honesty in his words was evident in his tone. And in the way, his eyes locked with mine.
I could feel his love in his stare. And it made my heart race. And my cheeks reddened.
It felt wonderful knowing I meant this much to him. Knowing I meant so much that he was willing to sacrifice everything for me.
When he had told me that, my heart had warmed so wonderfully.
However, I had also been scared cause I didn’t wish for him to be in any form of grave danger.
“Thanks for also-“
The pinging of his phone disrupted me.
He looked at it, and whatever he saw made his eyes more grim. “Can you excuse me?”
“Sure.”
He picked it up.
“What’s up, Logan?”
Due to my wolf hearing, I was able to hear Logan clearly from the other end.
“You need to come quick. I just got a trial of Diane.”
He bit his lips in contemplation. “Are you sure about the trail?”
“I’m very certain.”
He sighed. “I'll be with you in a few minutes.” Then he hung up.
“It’s okay. You have to go. I understand. In fact, it’s better if you can find them. So you can know what to do regarding the flash drive.”
I said even before he could inform me about it.
“Thanks. And I’ll do my best to come rushing back.”
I nodded with a little smile. And he sprinted out of the room.
I truly hoped they caught Diane. That way, they could have a head start on what to do about the flash drive.
The door opened. Revealing Margaret, who carried a tray. Loaded with meal.
“You didn’t have to stress.”
“Believe me, I’m happy to stress.”
My face lit up. Then, she placed the tray on the counter.
And sat down on the chair close to the bed.
I had to sit up so I could access the meal.
The tray was one that I could place on the bed, and I did so.
Then, I begin digging into the food.
“This is really good. Did you make these?”
“Yeah. Ms Irene has been teaching me some things.”
I nodded. Digging more into my food.
“I saw Adrien on the way coming. Although his face was grim. Did you guys fight?”
“No. No. It was something entirely.”
Margaret sighed. “I felt it was too early to be fighting. Besides, He deserves more than a gold shoulder from you.”
“He does?”
“Yes. I thought he was selfish and only cared for himself, just like you said. But during this past week. I got to see him to see who he was. And damn! You are indeed lucky to have someone like that so in love with you.”
This made my cheeks reddened the more.
“You talk so well about him. Did he do something fabulous?”
“Oh. Is it the countless visits to the hospitals? The consistent staying overnight in the hospital. The checking up on you. They look after the children. The little worries in his eyes when he saw you weren’t responding to treatment? Damn! He really is so selfless. And he loves you so damn much.”
She was indeed right. Adrien was all of those things that she described. And even more.
He definitely wasn’t the guy I was used to knowing eight years ago.
He changed to a new and entirely different person. And someone I wished to be part of the life of this new person.
When I was on the verge of death, I realized how insane my distrust and excuses for not giving him a chance were.
Cause as I died. I regretted the fact that I never told him how I really felt about him.
I regretted the fact that I didn’t go above my fears and worries. And be with him. Loving him. Growing with him. And even making new babies with him.
And now that life has given me a second chance. I didn’t plan on spending it on hating on the one who loved me the most.
I didn’t plan on denying myself of love all cause of past pains.
Those pains were in the past. Those memories were of the past. I should only focus on the NOW and the future.
And loving him is my NOW and my future.
Besides, he was not the same guy who had another woman over me. He was known as a guy who truly loved me and would do anything for me.
I definitely didn’t wish to stop it-
“Down to earth, Esmeralda,” Margaret called out. Gaining my attention.
“Yes?“
“I was asking you if you still plan on being stubborn and keeping things mutual between you both?”
“No. I want to live. I want to love. And being stubborn would only stop me from doing that.”
My statement put a smile on her face. I meant every word that I said. Cause I didn’t even know if I was going to survive tomorrow.
And seeing that Diane and Ray are still on the loose.
It’s quite possible that my life can end soon.
I wouldn’t wish to live a sad, regretful life.
“I’m proud of the decision that you made,” Margaret said.
After which, I focused on the meal. When I was done, she took the tray away—leaving me to fall asleep.
Which I did soon enough.
When I opened my eyes, the night had already made its appearance.
I stood up from my bed to get some water.
I also noticed that Adrien wasn’t back. I wondered if he was okay. And then I texted him on my phone.
After that, I went to check on the kids. They were fast asleep.
I couldn’t go back to sleep. So I decided to watch some movies. And also wait for Adrien.
I was halfway through the movie when I noticed my phone beeped.
I paused the movie to check it. It was a text from an unknown number,
“Happy recovery, Esmeralda. I was waiting for the day you would get out of the coma. Good to see you pulled through from all that.”
Confusion and worry spread through Me. The message seemed normal. But it gave me a very eerie vibe
