Chapter 21: Chapter Twenty-one

Days passed since the BlackStone beta had come and taken Jett away. Cassidy wasn't sure how many days. She had been locked in this bright cell since they had been captured and she had no sense of time any more. Her clothes and watch were long gone and she followed her own sleep schedule now. She had no contact with the outside other than the guard that would bring her food and take away whatever was left. Cassidy worried greatly for Jett and what had happened to him, where they had taken him. If he was even still alive or not. They had come and taken her for another shower and even then, she could not pick up her guardian’s scent. She could not even pick up the alpha’s scent. She fought them through the shower and paced her kennel angrily for hours after they had taken her back to her room.

Cassidy had been asleep when something woke her. The white she-wolf lifted her head, her eyes on the door. Her wolf was new but she was so very aware of her surroundings. There were no odd noises. No scents in the air. She even looked up to the vent where she could often hear the sounds of others that the BlackStone pack was keeping prisoner as well but even that was silent. For her, whatever it was that had woken her, left her with an uneasy feeling crawling up her back and between her shoulder blades. She growled low and laid her head back down, watching the door and trying to force herself back to sleep.

What Cassidy did not know was that high above her in the forests outside of the prison a band of rogues were laying in wait. They had been planning this for months. At first there had been small random attacks on BlackStone to test their weaknesses. Typically they always came from the other side of the territory and that had been where watches and patrols were the heaviest. The source they had, worked in the prison itself. There were several high profile rogue wolves that James Black had captured and had been getting information out of over the last several weeks. Information that if it got out and into the hands of wolves like James, everything the rogues had been working for over the years would come crashing down in one flaming inferno. The informant, had alerted them that one of the rogues was ready to break and they had just days to get the group free.

There were twenty rogues in total. All of them using special mixes in water to hide their scents. They were somewhat of a special forces group of wolves not turned insane or feral but a group of skilled thieves and murderers who excelled in their old packs as warriors and high ranking wolves before they were cast out. They had found their home under the protection of the rogue leader, their king as they called him, and they served him loyally. The group had been in preparation to attack not the prison, but the actual town built around the pack house. They intended to take BlackStone to the ground as they had done to so many other packs across the country and claim their territory in an ever growing foothold for the rogues.

However, with the information they had received about their man starting to break in the prison, they had a new target. Get in. Rescue their own and take prisoner everyone else that wasn't a part of James Black’s pack. Their informant was one of Jame’s own men. He was a lower ranking wolf but a part of the guards no less. He watched the halls in the prison and he knew the precise coming and goings of every wolf that worked there. His name was Marcus. He was an older wolf and he had never like any of the Blacks. Even the retired alpha couple he had fantasized about killing once or twice. When their son took over alpha of the pack and in his opinion was an even worse alpha than the last, he had to do something. A wolf alone could not take down an alpha family. The rogues clearing the country could. It took hardly nothing for Marcus to slip out for a few nights and set up a meeting, giving information and showing them the weaknesses he knew of.

The rogues waited patiently in the thick underbrush of the forest for the change of guards. For a few minutes, no one would be watching the security system and everyone would be relaxed. It was the perfect plan to catch the men who worked here off guard and get in and out without being noticed. They watched as the new shift of only four wolves followed the well used path to the prison and went inside. They counted to sixty, and when the dim light above the door flickered off, back on and off again, the commander of the group motioned to the rest. “Thats the signal… Move fast. Kill quietly. Get Red and John free priority and kill or capture everything else. We all have the codes. Lets go.” He reminded them all one last time of the plan before he led the way through the trees. Marcus met them at the door and opened it for them, Allowing the rogues to enter one by one. Half headed to the locker rooms where the guards were changing out and half headed to the elevators and stairs.

Cassidy had not been able to fall back asleep. She was more annoyed with herself, thinking maybe she was starting to lose her mind with the feeling of unease that she just couldn't shake. At no point in her life had she ever experienced a feeling that was almost like dread if she could describe it. Head on her paws, she let out a sigh and closed her eyes to try and convince herself to sleep since there was nothing else to do for her within these bars. As soon as she did, her ears perked up. Through the vent far above her, she heard the faintest noise. A heavy thud as if something had fallen against a vent somewhere in the building and the metal echoed it. What she heard next had her lifting her head, eyes focused on the door as her hearing focused on every sound she could pick up.

Shouts of anger and pain were faint, but there. Many silenced as soon as they began. It sounded like a fight had broken out amongst the guards. It happened sometimes. They were wolves after all and men on top of that. They settled their differences in the only way they knew how in this world and then would laugh it off and have a beer after. There was no laughter after this fight, instead with the air circulating, Cassidy caught the faint scent of blood. She didn't react at first, simply lay frozen as her mind processed exactly what she was sensing. Maybe this was what Jett had planned to get her out of here? It was a suicidal plan… but maybe if he pulled it off they could get out before anyone noticed? Cassidy almost danced in happiness up to her feet to meet Jett when he came in.

It took nearly ten minutes of anticipation and Cassidy barely controlling her excitement before the door unlocked. Except who came in was not Jett. It was someone she didn't know. The man was large and powerful, nearly as big as the Alpha and covered in blood. He didn't smell like the Blackstone pack guards. Strangely he didn't have a scent of his own at all. More men passed outside the door headed down the hall to get to the lower floor and the one in the room with her stepped out to tell the others he had found something interesting to bring back.

Cassidy had seconds to react. Seconds to figure out a way to get out of this. Like everyone else, The man had never seen a white wolf before. “Alright pup, lets get you out of here and free.” He said as he knelt down and began trying different keys on the lock of the kennel to get her out. Cassidy figured if the man seen her as a pup with her smaller size, if she acted like one her chances of getting this cage open would increase. The she wolf laid down in an almost submissive way and waited. Seconds went by and they seemed like minutes, she afraid to breath in the event the man would walk out. There was a beep of the electronic lock and then a click. The man opened the door wide and reached inside with both hands to pick her up and drag her out of the kennel.

There was no second choices or guessing on what she had to do. She didn't know who this man was. He was not the BlackStone pack and she had never seen him before. She could hear fighting in the halls as others were being drug from their own cells. The terrible sound of someones throat being torn open mid scream. Cassidy didn't know this man and she wasn't going to take a chance on her fate ending the same as the others. She lunged at him without warning, using every ounce of speed and strength her wolf body had as she attacked the man with a vicious and savage roar that rivaled most alpha’s.
