Chapter 259 The Confusing Betrayal
Chapter 259 The Confusing Betrayal
Thorin’s heart was in knots that night. He had no idea what to do. He had found Eve, lost Eve. He had found that Vespera was trying to drug him, and that broke his heart. For a second, he felt bad for Vespera because he thought that he had ignored her feelings for so long that she was left frustrated, and then she resorted to immoral and illegal means to make him hers. But then he realised that even though he was ignoring her love, he had been upfront with her about his own feelings and no one was allowed to force their feelings on others and definitely not drug them.
He walked inside the house with Corvin. It was still empty. All the girls were at the party, maybe waiting for Thorin to come back. The house was in shambles, clothes everywhere, shoes everywhere, as everyone had got ready for the party inside that mansion. But he didn’t care about that mansion. He didn’t care about any party anymore. He didn’t even want to talk to Vespera. He had ordered Corvin to find everything about her, and he just had to wait.
All he wanted now was to talk to Eve. Why did she say that she didn’t know Thorin? What was that about? All night he dreamed about her. Her kiss, her hug, her sweet smile, her red, crying eyes, her naked body near him and then her rejection. He kept tossing and turning in his bed the whole night. He didn’t even hear when Vespera and the other girls came back.
He sighed loudly and groaned in frustration. He didn’t want to go to the office that day. But he jumped from his bed the moment he recalled that Eve was at the party, which meant she worked for the Blackridge Corporation. He had been getting a whiff of her scent every day. Maybe he would find her today.
He got ready and walked out of his room. Corvin was standing right outside his room.
“What are you doing here?” asked Thorin.
“Just like you, couldn’t sleep! I need to find her. And we both know she works in our office. Let’s go! Let’s not give her any opportunity to run away. Getting there early means finding her sooner,” explained Corvin.
“You are so right! Let’s go!” said Thorin.
“What about…?” Corvin pointed downstairs in the direction of Vespera’s room.
“Leave her! She has her friends to attend to. I will send her a message that we went early to office,” replied Thorin.
“Good thinking!” smiled Corvin.
They both drove to the office. Thorin first sent a message to Thessia asking her to bring everyone left to give the test and that he would check the office roster. If anyone didn’t give the test, he would fire the whole office. He then sent a message to Vespera asking her to take her friends outside and enjoy her time with them.
He walked into his office and sat in his seat. He kept biting his nails. He had not seen Eve giving the test, which meant she was coming today for sure. But soon the whole office started pouring out of his cabin.
Corvin looked at him with surprise. He too looked at him with shock. “What is this?” asked Corvin.
“Yeah, what is happening?” asked Thorin.
After a few minutes, Thessia came in with Maeve Arrendale. Thorin was excited for a second, as he wanted to see who the girl was who broke his record. But more than that, he wanted to see Eve. The moment Thessia moved to her side, revealing the face of Maeve, Thorin jumped out of his chair like a rocket from a bottle. His chair flew away and hit the wall.
Corvin heard his thoughts about being jealous of the girl he was dying to find. Thorin could only look at her.
“Shit! Shit! Shit! I am an idiot! She was so close to me. I had her so close. That day… that day, if I had just waited for her photo to upload, I would have found her years ago. Moon Goddess! What have you done to my brain? How can I be so stupid?” Thorin kept snapping at himself.
When Maeve extended her hand to shake with him, he almost stumbled in a rush to reach her. He grabbed her hand as if his battery was low and only Maeve could recharge him. he almost laughed when she threatened him about breaking his teeth.
“Even if you hit me, I would love that you would touch me,” Thought Thorin. Corvin cleared his throat and brought him back to the land of the living.
Thessia tried to diffuse the tension everyone was feeling around them. But Thorin taunted Maeve, saying that there was no need for a test. Everyone has given it, and everyone has failed. Maeve taunted him right back and snapped at him for betraying her. That gave Thorin an electric shock.
“Betrayal? What did she mean by betrayal?”
“Just start the test! Show it to me!” snapped Maeve.
“Okay, here! Sit down!” said Thorin.
“Really? Really? I need to sit down? Is this a standing desk? No, right? Then I will have to sit. What other option is there?” snapped Maeve and sat on the chair.
“Why is she snapping at me? Why is she so angry? What did I do?” thought Thorin.
“Yes, what did you do? First, she says she does not remember you, and now she is angry at you. How bad was your kiss last night?” Corvin was laughing in Thorin’s mind.
“Fuck off!” growled Thorin, and Corvin tucked his lips between his teeth to stop himself from laughing.
“Okay, this is the code. This code is for a character. It’s a half-written code. I need my character to walk. That’s it. Just complete the code so that my character can walk,” explained Thorin.
“Just walk?” asked Maeve.
“Just walk!” replied Thorin. “If you have any questions, you can ask me.”
“Did you write the code yourself?” asked Maeve.
“You doubt that?” asked Thorin.
“No, I was thinking that the genius people in my office are unable to solve your test, which means that you must have made some mistake in writing your code,” taunted Maeve.
“Excuse me!!” shouted Thorin.
“Maeve!” shouted Thessia, but it was more of a warning.
“I don’t make mistakes,” said Thorin.
“She is making fun of you. Oh! This is so exciting,” Corvin teased, as usual in Thorin’s mind. Thorin jerked his face to look at him and bared his teeth. Corvin took a step back and lowered his head but never stopped laughing.
“Let’s see then!” said Maeve and started the test. For a minute, she didn’t move. She just kept her eyes fixed on the screen. She kept biting her lower lip in concentration.
“Ahhh… why the hell is she biting her lip? This is so infuriating!” screamed Thorin in the back of his mind.
“Stop… thinking… filthy thoughts!” snapped Corvin. “What the hell? You did that to the code? You are cheating, you asshole!”
