Chapter 17

JAX

I had the best evening and night of my life. We talked, she asked me a bunch of questions, she fell asleep on me, she asked me more questions and then fell asleep on me again, only this time I fell asleep too. I woke up before she did and took the time to look at her... really look at her. Damn, she's beautiful. I want her face to be the last thing I see at night when I go to bed and the first thing I see when I wake up. She's the whole package. We're the three luckiest bastards in the world, that's for sure.

During our conversation, we didn't bring up the subject of the four-way relationship at all so I don't know where she's at with that. And I certainly wasn't going to risk ruining the evening by broaching the subject. I'm allowed to be selfish for once... Because I have a feeling that this is one of the last times I'll be able to have her all to myself.

She stretches before sitting up, opening her eyes, and when she turns to look at me she smiles. Oh yes goddess, I can confirm that this is exactly what I want to see every morning when I wake up. And she has no idea how charming she is.

"Good morning, baby. Sleep well?" I ask, running my thumb over her cheek.

She smiles wider. "Good morning. Yes, thank you."

She seems to realize how close we are and starts to pull away, but I stop her by holding her wrist gently. "Please don't do this. We're two adults, I like you and I know you like me. What do you say we... we just pick up where we left off. Before all these revelations, I mean."

"You mean before I knew you weren't even human beings? That you're werewolves? Creatures I didn't even think existed until yesterday?" She pauses, raising her eyebrows. "Yeah totally, let's do that."

"Cool I figured we'd be on the same page." I reply with a smirk.

She slaps my chest. "That was sarcasm!"

"No, seriously?" I feign surprise. "What do you want?" I ask her seriously this time.

I may be taking a risk by asking her this question, but I need to know where she stands so I can adapt my persuasion strategy. She slept in my arms, so I assume this isn't a desperate quest.

She sighs, her smile disappearing. "I don't know. I liked you... I like you. What's strange is that even though it's a rocky story, well... deep down... I don't feel like it matters much. Shouldn't I be freaking out more than that?"

"Didn't you faint when you saw me in my wolf form? Ah unless it was when you saw the size of the monster I'm hiding in my pants?" I tell her and she laughs, slapping my chest again, but this time I grab her wrist to pull her towards me. "You're not afraid because you know I'd never hurt you. We'd never hurt you." I add softly, bringing my face close to hers. She looks at my lips, then my eyes. I continue to bring my lips to hers slowly, to give her time to push me away, but she doesn't. I press my lips against hers, she places both hands on my chest and she opens her mouth and I slip my tongue in.

Our tongues dance in perfect synchronicity as the doorbell rings.

"Ignore it." I say against her lips but the doorbell rings once more and she walks away smiling.

ISABELLA

I don't know whether to be relieved or annoyed that we've been interrupted. I move toward the door, ignoring Jax's frustrated grunt.

I open the door and his two brothers are behind it.

Asher's eyes look at me, then back at me.

"We were worried about you, but I see you're okay." He says and I understand he's talking to Jax, whom I haven't heard following me. "We were worried about you both."

I shift to let them in. "Come on in. The neighborhood doesn't need to hear this conversation."

They both enter and I close the door. I sit down and the three of them follow. The apartment seems small all of a sudden with these three big guys inside.

"I went for a walk and came here. I needed to show her that you'd told her the truth. I shifted in front of her and she fainted." Asher grunts as his brother continues to explain what happened. "I couldn't leave her like that so I stayed. Long story short when she regained consciousness, we talked and fell asleep."

Three pairs of eyes turn in my direction.

My eyes widen and from the heat I feel on my cheeks I must be as red as a tomato.

"I... I was..." I stammer before clearing my throat. "Yesterday I left in a hurry because I thought you were messing with me." I say, looking at Asher, and he frowns slightly before resuming a stoic appearance. "This is so crazy. Fuck, you guys are werewolves." I get up from the couch, running my hands through my hair, which must be a complete mess. "It wasn't until I saw Jax transform that I realized it was true. He explained a lot of things to me but... I still have a lot of questions and I'm going to have to get used to all this." I sigh. "I like all three of you, but this is weird for me too. I've only known my ex-husband intimately. I don't know how to be with another man so three... at once." Now I'm getting hot and bothered and I'm panicking. I must look like an idiot to be scared for this.

Knox stands up and hugs me. "This is the happiest day of my life. You want us. I was so afraid you'd reject us after you left. I'm so relieved we don't have to forcibly mark you."

His last sentence takes me by surprise, so much so that I'm not sure I really understood what he said. "I beg your pardon?!"
