Chapter 16: A pawn in her games.

Lucas’s POV.

I was held hostage.

Not by chains and ropes but by debt—I had made a deal with a demon years back and she needed her favor right now.

“You do not make any mistakes or you pay for it” he growled and in demonstration of power, he thunged the glowing gold thread he held in his fingers, causing a bolt of pain to shoot through my body.

“Yes” I groaned, hating I was going to be used as a pawn, but his motive was a mystery to me, he just wanted me close to her and relay the information back to him, it wasn’t a big deal to him, just a simple task but I knew I was putting her life in danger reporting back to this feral demon.

“Now go and bring me tears” he ordered .showing me her fangs in what he must have thought was a smile—there he was sitting majestically on a chair, the deep gash from his brow to his mouth did nothing of a sort to lessen the fear he had spoken in some people, and oh my did he feed off it.

I opened a portal, and already used to this routine I stepped through it. The area he had decided was best to send me back through the portal he created was a remote island—what had I expected? He was a demon—a cruel one at that.

“Did you forget I have access to your head, little human?” His question sent me off guard, I looked behind me, but he wasn’t there—just in control of my head, and there was nothing I could do about it even though I wanted so badly to.

I stared at the little star on my wrist, I had met my fair share of supernaturals, and this kept me at his calling along with the control he had knowing his mark was on my wrist—I needed him to break the curse his mother had cast upon me so badly because the little tattoo I had on my neck could be the reason for my death.

My mind went back to that night as memory kept stumbling in.

There I sat. I had once read a book about summoning demons, sitting in the middle of a triangle in a circle I drew, and lighted candles placed at the edge of each circle.

“Oh dearest demon from hell, I need you” I had said in my half-drunken state, I hadn’t expected him to appear but he did and they had sent me the son of the worst demon of the first generation—how great was that?

He smirked at me, in his red form, tail, and horn—I had thought I was in the right hands.

“I need you to help me” I pleaded, still wasn’t in my right senses.

He looked around my apartment, grimacing “A human” . He looked shocked for a second before his face broke into an animalistic smile. “You do know the saying tit for tat, right? , what do you have to offer?” I looked at him, registering I hadn’t thought this through—of course, he would want something.

“What would you want?” I gazed up at him, comfortable from where I sat even if his brooding body was towering over me—he had all the access to kill me from where he stood.

“People offer their soul to me, mine to take after death or before death” he shrugged.

“I can’t give you that” I shook my head, I wasn’t going to sell my soul to the devil “How about I offer you something else?”

“Your lifelong Loyalty, you would be bonded to me as master” he pointed to himself “and servant, even till death takes you along” he smirked.

“I want you to keep me hidden, I have an army of witches after me, 'cause I stole from them,” I said with urgency.

“Consider it done”

“Then we have a deal,” I said, “do we shake hands or something?”

He laughed like a peal of full-blown belly laughter “Oh silly” he took my wrist and bit into it taking my blood into his mouth “There” the mark had appeared there—a little star on the wrist.

There I sat in the comfort of the living room of the house I once stayed in and summoned a demon, bounding my soul to his—and the deals came coming after turns, what was left of me that he hadn’t taken?

There was his mother who cursed me at first sight. The reason is unknown to me, I had to break it before the little ink on my neck spread to my heart and it was damn close—here I was branded by two people from the same demon family.

I walked into the diner he had told me offered her a job, I could recognize her from the picture he had created in my mind. I created a cool facade and walked to her. She looked like my kind—human. So what was the deal?

“Good day, What would you like to order?” Her soft voice had hit straight home—my heart.

I looked lazily through the menu, the taste for anything not there “You don’t seem to be on the menu?” I smirked, feeling somewhat praiseworthy.

She cringed, shaking her head” I would have rated that bad frizz you pulled out there if it wasn’t so common”

I threw my head back and laughed “ I am Lucas, you are?”I looked down at her shirt, my eyes straying for a moment.

“Oh I just joined, I am Freya though” Oh darling, so much I have been told about you.

“Nice to meet you Freya” I smiled back at her “I would like a burger, an avocado smoothie, and your number to go with it” I could feel the prince of hell sighing, I think I heard him call me a lost course, not really sure.

“Unfortunately, I was taught not to give strangers my number, but to become a regular customer and you might just earn it” I walked off to the table to sit.

A blonde girl placed my order and left, my eyes kept going to where she stood on their own accord.

“Nothing more than a mission to you” I heard his voice fading off, he could read my thoughts—not that I gave a fuck, he couldn’t kill me he needed me so much since he couldn’t leave his realm into ours. He could only cause me close to death-pain and need I forget my curse.

I stood up and walked out the door after paying for the food.

An hour later, she came out of the door. Her work clothes were discarded. She walked towards a quiet area, I followed closely behind her, hiding out in the dark.

I guess she could feel me, she glanced back expecting to see someone but she didn’t. She clutched her bag tighter, picking up her pace. She stopped in front of the famous Alpha Oliver’s house, he was quite popular in the supernatural world, and my brother sang praises of him. You guessed right, I was the only human in my family. I don’t know how—what was her connection to him? This was becoming more interesting than I had thought it would.

“What do you mean, she might be that alpha mate” the prince of hell growled, seeming more perplexed than I was.

“You are the demon, Figure that out” I was tired and needed sleep after being ordered around like a puppet all fucking day.

He glared at me “You sure do have a rough tongue for a mere human” he tsked

I shrugged “Send me back, I am done for today”

He kept quiet, leaving me wondering what is going on in that demonic head of his.

“Sure” He opened a portal and pushed me through it.

I landed back in my apartment, my heart beating wildly—I was exhausted but the question was still present in my mind— was I going to come out of this arrangement with my heart still in my chest....I doubt that, it felt like a match made in heaven.
