Chapter 9

Jayla's POV:

He wanted to skip class with me. Who would want to skip class with me, though? I was just a freak, a quiet girl that nobody wanted. I was too stupid and ugly to have a crush on him.

He probably wouldn't even care about me after. He would just play with me and leave me heartbroken. But I couldn't seem to leave him. He was always there with me; my body was dragging me to him. I couldn't control it.

"Skip class with you?" I asked him.

"Yeah, I mean, you don't have a choice anyway." He chuckled.

"But why?"

"Because," he replied.

I hated those short answers. But I couldn't say it in front of him.

"My parents will kill me if they know I'm skipping," I said. It was the truth, but they wouldn't kill me. They would only ask me where I had been.

"So what? You need to chill," he scoffed, rolling his eyes. I don't understand him. He was a senior, so he should study instead of skipping his classes. Why was he hanging out with a sophomore?

"Why are you hanging out with me?" I asked.

"What do you mean?" he said, tilting his head. He was confused.

"I'm only 16, and you are 18."

He looked at me and laughed. He thought that it was funny, but it wasn't. I was actually serious.

"I'm serious." I pouted.

"First, I'm not 18. I'm 17, but I skipped a year, and second, why can't I hang out with a girl that belongs to me?" He grinned, coming close to me.

"Excuse me? Who are you to tell me that I belong to you?" I scoffed and crossed my arms.

"I did. Jayla Jacobs belongs to Max Black," he declared with a smile.

"You can't just do that!"

"Why not? I just did," he said and put an arm on my shoulders, bringing me closer to him.

Every time that he did this, it made my heart flutter. I didn't know why, but the way he touched me gave me pleasure and sparks as if I really did belong to him.

"Max." I gulped.

"What is it, sweetheart?" he whispered. I moved my head from him because he grabbed my chin, making me look at this handsome face in front of me.

"I-I—"

"Lost for words?" he muttered as he placed his lips against my cheek, trailing his lips down my jaw, leading into an open-mouthed kiss. I tried not to moan, not in public. It was embarrassing.

"Please, stop. We are in public!" I felt brave when I said those words, pushing him away from me. His eyes widened in pain and shock. I didn't want to hurt him.

"It's just that we are in public. I don't want people to get the wrong idea," I said.

He sighed deeply and gave me a tight smile.

"Alright, we are still skipping anyway," he said, taking my hand softly in his, and we walked toward his car.

We got into the car, and he started to drive. He softly hummed a song as he stared at the road. I stared at him, watching his perfectly sculpted jaw and his button nose. The way he stared forward was making me overwhelmed.

"It's rude to stare," he said suddenly, shaking me from my thoughts. I blushed and looked away.

I heard him chuckle and felt his eyes on me again.

"Don't worry. You can stare at me. I'm yours." He laughed.

What did he mean that he was mine?

"What are you talking about?" I asked him the same question. I was confused about his phrasing.

"Nothing." He shrugged, and we didn't talk. I stared out the window beside me.

"Wanna do 20 questions?" he asked, and I nodded.

"Alright, I'll start. What is your favorite basic color?" he asked.

"Beige."

"Same. I can see why you like the color beige." He grinned, pointing out my beige bag and headband.

"What is your favorite food?" I asked.

"You would probably think that I'm a health freak, which I am. I don't eat junk food," he said. It was true since I didn't see him eat the pizza earlier. Instead, he had just sipped his drink quietly.

"Then what was the drink you had?"

"It was a protein shake. The flavor is good, but people hate it."

Well, I did hate healthy food.

"What about you?"

"I like junk food, and also watermelon. Watermelon is my favorite fruit." I said with stars in my eyes.

"Then I will make sure to get you some watermelon." He laughed, and I smiled softly.

"Now that I think about it, where are we going?" I said. I was so excited to have a conversation with him that I forgot to ask him where we were going. This was the effect that he had on me. He always managed to make me forget things.

"We are going to my house," he said, and I frowned.

"But why?"

"Because there is something I want to show you."

"But—"

"Stop asking questions," he growled. I sighed and stared out the window again.

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay," I said.

"Just don't ask questions anymore. Trust me, alright?" he asked, and I nodded.

We finally arrived at the destination. His house was still the same, big and beautiful—the biggest house in Raven.

"Well, get out of the car," he said, and I got out of the car. I sighed and stared at the front yard that was being renovated.

"My mom wanted to change the whole house to give it a more modern look," he replied.

"Let's go. I want to give you something," he said, making me frown in confusion. What did he want me to give me?

We stepped into the house. The maids bowed to Max as he walked by. I wondered why people were bowing to Max. He wasn't royalty.

We soon walked into his room. It had a dark accent wall, with the rest of the walls white. There was a big bed and a TV screen in the middle. There was a large balcony and a bathroom on the other side. It was a dream of a room.

"Make yourself at home," he said with a smile as he removed the top he was wearing.

"What are you doing?" I asked as he took off his shirt. His back muscles flexed. He was fit but not too fit like those weightlifters.

"I have to treat my wounds," he said casually. He took out a first aid kit and sat on the bed.

I surprised him by sitting behind him and snatching the bottle of alcohol from him.

"Let me do this. My mom is a nurse, so I learned how to treat wounds," I said, and he replied with a hum, letting me do this.

I took the alcohol bottle and put it on a cotton pad. I winced in pain as I saw the wounds on his back. He leaned back, his shoulders supporting him.

I wouldn't ask how he got his wounds because it was not my business.

"That bruise must hurt," I said, starting a conversation. I didn't like the silence between us.

"It's alright. I'm used to it." He sighed.

What did he mean by used to it?

I shrugged it off and continued to treat his bruise. He didn't wince as I treated him; he stared at the ceiling the whole time.

"All done," I said with a smile and cleaned off the materials.

"Thanks," he answered and grabbed a water bottle from his mini-fridge. I gasped as I saw his full abs on display.

"Want some water? It can maybe cool you off," he smirked. He noticed that I was staring at his abs. I glared at him.

"No, thank you."

"If you want." He shrugged and sat on the bed again.

"So, what did you want to show me?" I asked.

"I didn't want to show you, but it's like a gift for treating me and accepting our friendship," he said, cringing at the word friendship.

I also cringed when he said friendship. I knew that he didn't want to have me as his girlfriend.

He stood up and opened a drawer. He took out a perfectly wrapped box and gave it to me.

"Here is your gift," he said.

I started to tear the wrapping paper and opened the box to see a necklace with a moon and his initials, MB.

"It's pretty!" I exclaimed.

"It took me two days to make this." He chuckled.

"I love it. Thank you." I grinned.

"No problem," he smirked.

I picked up the necklace carefully and tried to put it around my neck. I felt his hands clasping the chain around my neck.

"I'm sorry, but I thought that you needed help with your necklace." He breathed on my neck, sending me sparks.

"Thank you," I said.

"So, who said that you don't belong to me?" he whispered, making me frown. He chuckled as he looked at my frowning face for the third time.

"This proves that you belong to me," he said, holding my necklace.

I widened my eyes and tried to take off the necklace, but it was locked.

"It's funny how you are trying to get this off. I have the lock, sweetheart." He laughed while holding a key. I giggled and rolled my eyes.

"Idiot," I muttered.

"I'm your idiot," he said, pushing me on the bed. I gasped as I fell on the bed with him on top of me. I saw the necklace around his neck and held it to see it better.

JJ.

It had my initials.

"I'm yours just like you are mine." He brushed my hair out of my face and cupped my jaw. He put his lips on my cheek, trailing down on my neck.

He was so handsome.

I couldn't believe that he said he was mine.

"So, you're saying—" I gasped.

"Would you like to be with me?" he asked, and I widened my eyes.

I couldn't believe that he was asking me to be with him.

The popular guy was asking me to be with him.

"I would love to," I blurted out.

"Good, let me kiss those tempting lips," he said and pushed his lips against mine. His soft lips against mine made me feel euphoria.

He was a professional kisser. He kissed me softly and with passion. He nipped my lips, and I didn't understand why he did that. Suddenly, his hands wandered around my body, and once they were on my stomach, he lifted my stomach slowly as he kissed me.

He put his hands on my bare stomach, making me gasp. He took the chance to put his tongue in my mouth. After a few seconds, he let me go and put his forehead against mine. We were both breathless. I laughed, and he laughed as well.

He leaned in close to me to kiss me again, but the door opened without a knock. Max growled and pushed my shirt down so that no one would see my stomach.

"What the fuck is it—Mother," he said, looking at the door where his mother was standing. She was wearing a lab coat with her glasses on her head.

"I can't believe I'm seeing my son having fun with his girlfriend." She grinned and winked at me. I blushed.

"I hope you are having fun, Jayla," she chuckled, and I nodded.

"Leave me alone. I want to be alone with her," he snarled.

"Alright, come downstairs after you guys have had your fun," she said with amusement and left us alone. Max glared at the door and looked at me again. His eyes went soft, and he was smiling again. He rubbed my cheek in a loving way and pecked my lips.

"I can't believe I had the best fucking kiss of my life." He sighed in happiness and rolled over the bed. He put an arm around my waist as he stared at me.

"You are my first kiss." I giggled.

"Good, it's better that way," he said with possessiveness in his eyes.
