Chapter 11
"Jayla, breathe. It's probably nothing," she whispered to herself and gulped nervously. She stood up and searched for the baseball bat that she had stolen from Darby. She sighed with relief and slowly walked out of her room, clenching the baseball bat tightly.
She held it in front of her as she walked downstairs. She gasped when she saw a man wearing a black outfit. He was looking at something. She yelled and hit the man furiously.
"Take that, you piece of shit!" she yelled at the man and hit him angrily.
"Ow! Woman! Stop!" the man hissed in pain. She stopped hitting him and looked at the man with a frown.
"Who are you?" she asked with a stern face.
"You look so cute when you're frowning," he laughed, holding his stomach.
"I-I won't ask again!" she stammered.
"Jake?" another voice asked.
The man looked at the front door. He gasped when he saw Max breathing heavily with anger. Jayla widened her eyes when she saw the state he was in.
"Max!" the man shouted and ran towards Max to hug him, but Max dodged him. Jake banged his forehead against the door.
"Dude!" he whined.
"Are you okay?" He ignored Jake and went to Jayla. He grabbed her arm and pulled her close to his body to hug her tightly.
"I'm fine." She sighed and leaned into his warm body, resting her head against his chest.
"Good. I was so scared that there was a burglar here, but it was only Jake the donkey," he said seriously.
"What? I'm not a donkey!" he growled.
"Says the man who dressed up as a donkey for my birthday party when I was 14," Max said, deadpanned.
"I thought it was a costume party!" he reasoned.
"Whatever. Jay, this is Jake, Ach and Lydia's son. And Jake, this is my girl—"
"I already know, my dear prince. You are his girlfriend and soon-to-be queen. It's such an honor to meet you. I am Jake Jacobs, the strongest knight in Raven," he introduced himself.
"I already introduced you to her." Max rolled his eyes.
"We are twins! My name is Jayla Jacobs too!" she exclaimed.
"Oh my god! We are twins!" he squealed. He pushed Max out of his way and held Jayla's hands.
"I can't believe this," Max scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"She's my distant sister. If you hurt her, you're dead!" Jake threatened Max, which didn't work. Max's face was stern the whole time.
"Fuck off," he said slowly.
Jake huffed and looked at Jayla, who smiled.
"I'm so sorry to barge into your house!" he apologized.
"It's alright. I found my twin anyway!" she yelled happily.
"What are you doing here?" Max asked, stopping their squealing.
"Well, someone told me to protect our princess here," he said as he saluted Max with a stern face. Max rolled his eyes. He now understood.
"Oh, also, Keaton is going to be here in 3, 2, 1—"
"I'm here!" a voice yelled from the front door. He slammed the door so hard it broke the door. Jayla cringed and saw a man wearing the same thing as Jake. The man had a motorcycle that was jammed through the door.
"My poor door," she whispered.
"Great, and you're breaking things again!" Max shouted.
"I had to make an impressive entrance to show our lady that I'm stronger than both of you," he snickered.
"Says the guy who's a janitor at his best friend's company," Max deadpanned again.
"Max! Shut the fuck up!" Keaton yelled.
"This is Keaton, Uncle Clayton and Jennifer's son," Jake said with a grin.
"Hey, beautiful lady."
"Hi, can you please get your motorcycle out of my house?" Jayla said with a nervous smile.
"Oh, I didn't realize that my motorcycle was in your house," he said, and Max rolled his eyes.
"I guess you're here because someone told you to protect my girlfriend," he sighed with exasperation.
"Si, hermano," he said with a miserable Spanish accent.
"You suck at Spanish," Jake laughed.
"Anyway, let's take a seat and drink some tea," Keaton said and sat on the couch. Jayla wondered how she was going to tell her father about the broken door.
"Yeah, we should. I'm tired." Jake clicked his fingers and sat next to Keaton.
"Jayla, I'm so sorry. They are so stupid and dumb. I'm sorry," Max said. Jayla still looked shocked about her door.
"The door."
"I will pay for the door. Don't worry," he reassured her and rubbed her shoulders in a comforting way.
"Lovers, what are you doing?" Jake yelled from the living room.
"I will make some tea." Jayla smiled at Max and pecked him on the cheek.
"Alright, don't be long," he said and let her go to the kitchen. Max walked to the living room and sat across from Jake and Keaton.
"Our queen is beautiful." Keaton grinned.
"I'm sure she will be the perfect queen for us," Jake said.
"So, Blaze told you to protect her?" Max asked, and they nodded.
"Yes, even though she doesn't know about our species. We will try to be discreet," Keaton replied.
"Well, I can't be around her all the time because I'm protecting Princess Aileen, but Keaton is available for this job." Jake winked at Keaton, who gushed. Max rolled his eyes again.
"But what about your duty as a Beta and third-in-command for the Blood Stone Pack?" Max asked. It was unusual for them to protect their future queen. It should be Marco or Huxley.
"Alpha Blaze ordered us, and I don't mind protecting such a cute girl," Keaton smirked.
"Watch out. She's my mate," he growled.
"Here is your tea!" Jayla graced them with tea. She put their cups on the table and sat next to Max.
"Thanks, tinker," Jake thanked her.
"Tinker?" she asked with curiosity.
"Because you are so small, twin." He grinned. She chuckled and leaned in close to Max, who opened his arms for her.
"So, how do you guys know each other?" she asked them.
"Well, Max's mother is a doctor. We all met at the hospital, so we are like childhood friends," Keaton explained.
"And we usually hang out in groups. We stayed with Mathis a lot, so we were the three troublemakers. Then Max hung out with Cole and Marco; they were also troublemakers. Sometimes, we hung out together as five dudes." Jake continued.
"Jake," Max growled in warning.
"Sorry. So the five dudes had a boss and underboss," Jake said.
"Who were the boss and the underboss?" Jayla asked. She was interested in the story.
"Max was the boss because he was cold toward everyone and was domineering."
"P.S., he also had anger issues," Jake whispered to Jayla. Max caught him and slapped the back of his head.
"Stop hitting me!" Jake whined.
"And the underboss was Mathis. He was immature but at the same time cold," Keaton continued.
"He also had a crush on Peyton when we were 10," Jake chuckled. Jayla widened her eyes.
"Wait! A crush on Peyton! Is he gay?" Jayla shouted.
"Nah, it's just that Peyton was very feminine when we were kids, and Mathis thought that he was a girl," Keaton explained with a smirk.
"So, he flirted with him until he discovered that he wasn't a girl. Peyton went in the locker room for boys, and when they were changing, Mathis saw his dick," Max finished.
"Poor Mathis was traumatized," Jake laughed. Jayla laughed as well. She couldn't believe that Mathis had a crush on Peyton.
"Dude was so shocked that he locked himself in his room. Since then, he hasn't hung out with Peyton." Keaton grinned.
They quieted down when they heard Jayla's father.
"What happened with the door? And who are you?" he asked, wondering why the door was broken and who the two strangers were.
"Dad, I can explain," she replied with a tight smile.
