~Alpha Kilhan~
After the dinner party, my pack members showed Jessica around the house, while I headed to my office.
I needed to tidy my table in case she wanted to check out the office too. My wolf and I felt great excitement until my gaze fell on that big envelope. The one my private investigator gave to me.
My mood changed completely as I took it in my hand and stared at it. ‘I can’t wait to get over this case once and all.’ I thought.
I wanted to get to the bottom of his death and avenge his death as soon as possible, so I could focus on my life with Jessica.
But tonight, I wasn’t going to let it ruin my mood. The night was all about my mate, and nothing was going to change that.
I kept the envelope between some files on my shelf. While I did this, I heard the office door open. I looked back and saw Betty walk in, wearing a wide smile.
“Betty,” I called, reciprocating her smile.
“Congratulations. I don’t think I’ve personally said that to you.” She uttered, walking up to my table.
“Thank you,” I answered and continued clearing my table.
“How do you feel?” She asked, closing the gap between us as she leaned against my table.
“Well, I bet you can tell. I’ve never been happier.” I answered with a chuckle, and she let out a smile and bobbed.
She lowered her head and mumbled, “It’s pretty obvious.”
Moving closer to her, I placed my hand on her shoulder. “And before I forget, thank you so much for helping me with the phone calls,” I uttered while she just stared at my hand on her shoulder.
“You don’t have to thank me. I’m glad you let me help.” She answered.
I nodded with a smile. withdrawing my hand from her shoulder. While I continued working, she spoke up again;
“I noticed something though…”
I raised my head to look at her, and she continued speaking. “She doesn’t really know you, does she?” She asked, and I shook my head.
“That is because we just met. We haven’t had time to catch up on these things, but soon…”
“Shouldn’t that be the first thing though?” She butted in.
“Kilhan, she wore white tonight, even the omegas know what that means. You hate that color. And then she almost served you seafood. What would have happened if I wasn’t there?”
“I would have told her, of course. And for the dress, she’s new here and doesn’t know how things work around here. With time, she’ll understand.” I answered, walking past her, but then she reached for my wrist and held it.
I took a halt and turned to look at her. Her eyes shimmered with emotions while she looked into my eyes.
“Are you sure about this?” She asked in a low tone.
“Betty, she is my mate. What is there not to be sure about?”
“Sometimes, the ones we think are our mates are not. We saw that with Oliver. He realized he was wrong and had to reject her to be with his real mate and now he’s happier.”
“Because it happened to Oliver doesn’t mean it would be the same for everyone else. I know what I felt when I set my eyes on her. She’s the one. But…
“Thank you for worrying about me,” I muttered, slowly withdrawing my hand from her. Deep down, I hoped she wasn’t going to bring up the topic I wanted to avoid at all costs.
“Don’t thank me, Kilhan. You know I’ll always love you… as. a friend.” She answered, and I wore a smile.
“I’m grateful. The pack is supposed to live in love and…”
She wrapped her arms around me, cutting me short. She buried her head in my chest, tightening her grip around me.
“Don’t avoid me any more, okay? I get it now.” She mumbled.
Just when I was about to break the hug, the door opened again and Jessica walked in.
“Baby,” I called, disengaging from the hug and walking up to her.
“I was told you were in here. I had no idea you had company.” She answered, looking at Betty with a cold stern.
“Oh, don’t mind me. I was just emotional about a personal issue. I was about to leave.” Betty answered, cleaning her eyes with her palm.
She walked past us and when she got to the door, she took a pause and turned to look at Jessica.
“You look very beautiful in that dress. White is your color.” She added, before finally walking out.
I swallowed hard and looked at Jessica whose face had turned red in anger.
“Hey, baby,” I called, trying to hold her but she moved away.
“I don’t like her. Why were you two hugging each other?” She asked, folding her arms.
“Baby, it was nothing. Betty is just a very good friend, okay?”
“Well, you need to make her understand that I am here now, and she shouldn’t be all over you if she used to do that before.” She added with a frown.
A hearty smile curled up my lips, causing her to crease her brows.
“Why are you smiling?” She inquired, still frowning.
I leaned closer to her, grabbed her by the waist, and pulled her into my arms.
“I love how possessive you are of me. Seeing you jealous drives me crazy.” I whispered, my gaze falling on her red, plump lips.
“Well, you were like that with Xavier too, weren’t you?” She answered, and then I remembered I got a message from the hospital.
“That reminds me. The hospital sent me a message that Xavier would be discharged tomorrow. I fulfilled my promise.”
Her face lit up immediately when she heard the news. “Thank you.” She uttered happily.
My gaze fell on her lips again, and I leaned closer to kiss her but she turned her face away.
“Why?” I furrowed my brows.
“We need to talk.” She muttered, pointing to the couch. I heaved a loud sigh and nodded.
Settling on the couch, I sat next to her, facing her. “So tell me, what do you want to talk about?”
“I don’t know anything about you at all.” She mumbled, and I beamed tiredly.
“So that is it. Fine, ask me anything. I’ll answer you.”
“Is white your favorite color?” She asked, and I shook my head. “I knew it! That b**tch.” She cursed under her breath.
“What?” I asked, and she shook her head.
“Nothing. So you hate it?”
“Yes, I do. I like other colors except it because it brings back memories I don’t want to remember.” I muttered, tightening my jaws.
“Memories? What memories?” She further inquired.
“It makes me remember my father. And it hurts anytime I remember him.”
“Why? Is he bad to you?” She asked, cupping my face in her hand.
“No, he wasn’t. He’s dead. White was his favorite color and he made me love it too, until I saw his dead body in that same color.” I took a pause, as memories rushed through my head again.
The picture of him hung in his office was clear in my head like he was in front of me.
“I… I’m sorry, Kilhan. I had no idea.” She muttered worriedly, moving closer to me.
“It’s nothing,” I answered, forcing on a smile. “What else would you love to know?”
“That’s enough for now, okay? We can talk about the rest later.” She smiled.
“Why? I’m okay, Jessica. You can ask more questions.”
“No. I don’t want to keep asking questions that may be pretty sensitive to you. So tonight, let’s do something else.”
She let out an evil smirk and began to trace her hand up my thighs. My eyes widened and I broke into laughter.
“What are you doing?!” I asked amidst laughter.
“What do you think?” She whispered, grabbing my shaft through my trousers, and a lustful gasp escaped my lips.
