THEIR WHITE EYES
Warlocks.
Anna had a bad history with every single warlock she’d come across. They all claimed to be created directly by the hands of the Moon Goddess but Anna could always tell from a glimpse that they were just naturally born werewolves that had a bit more magic inside of them. They never shifted, and they never had coming-of-age ceremonies. Probably because it made them feel special, but Anna could see through their shit, she didn’t fear and respect warlocks as others did.
She always saw them for what they truly were.
Power-hungry bastards, just like the Alphas they served.
At least that was what Anna thought about every warlock until she was what was behind that door.
The pungent smell first hit her with an intensity she didn’t expect, it was the smell of dry ground wetted by rain, the woods, and the stink of dead animals...it was so pungent Anna half expected her nose to fall off at that moment.
She turned to look at May, the woman’s nose had crinkled a bit but she didn’t have as much as a change in that expression of hers. It was all polite with a hint of anger.
“We have arrived,” she announced. Her legs moving and taking her even further into the stinking room.
What the shit.
Anna wasn’t going in there!
She could see the pitch black walls from where she stood and thick smoke that surrounded the walls like they were attached to one another, then there were the markings, some carved into the door and some into the walls. The flower with an eerie red glow that kind of reminded her of her eyes when she looked into a mirror.
“What do you think you’re doing?” May had stopped walking and turned to look at Anna with a gaze that seemed more like a burning glare.
Anna was sure she would’ve been all up in flames a long time ago if looks could kill.
Anna swallowed uncomfortably, she walked into the room and tried hard not to bring up her hands to her nose.
She didn’t want to seem disrespectful, seeing as both Kane and now May had given her warnings...And threats, to keep her attitude in check while she was still in the pack.
Anna had never come across such a complicated looking warlock shrine before. Majority of them never even tried, they just put on a pure white statue of what they assumed to be the moon goddess and then use it to scare others by telling them she was in the actual room.
Which Anna doubted.
If the bitch actually cared about any of her creations, she would’ve come down to Anna’s rescue a long time ago.
“The Wolf Spirit,” They said. All three of them spoke at the same time.
There were two tall men with slender builds and black robes that covered them from head to toe. It did such a good job of covering them that, all Anna could see were the tips of their fingers and their faces.
They didn’t cover their hair or face.
There was a woman in between them, her eyes were as white as snow, just like the men next to her...she kind of stood out as she was shorter but still Anna could feel equal power radiate off each of them.
It weakened her knees and made them shake like she’d just run a million miles without ever stopping.
“Shit! I told you not to look them in the fucking eyes!”
Anna let out a gasp as her legs gave out and her knees hit the sloppily carpeted floor.
Her entire body felt like a boulder and her legs like jelly, she lost all strength in her body, she lost all control.
“You are wrong,” They said.
“The Wolf Spirit can look into our eyes, she will not be weakened but will see the truth,”
Okay, there was nothing more creepy than hearing three people speak at the same time, not even making a single mistake, like they shared the same mind.
Anna had come across many warlocks.
Mostly because Yaakov disposed of the many he had just because they couldn’t help him harness the power of the Wolf Spirit as quickly as he wanted them too.
Anna had looked many of them in the eyes so many times and nothing ever happened, not like this.
“Then how do you explain her being on the floor,” May asked, Anna could hear the amusement in the woman’s tone, like she enjoyed seeing Anna in such a weakened state.
The bitch.
“The Wolf Spirit holds so much power that a young child like you will never be able to grasp or fathom in your short mortal life,”
Oh. Damn.
“The Wolf Spirit is the strongest of us all,” They concluded. Then Anna heard their footsteps, her eyes moved to their legs and she realized that they all moved in actual sync. Like their body was one and the same.
Soon their feet stopped we’re she was sitting in a rather pathetic manner on the floor, they squatted down and Anna felt a soft finger under her chin.
Her head was lifted up slowly and shining white eyes met hers.
“Look into our eyes and see the truth...”
All of a sudden, it felt like time had slowed and every other thing had quietened. Every sign of weakness had left Anna’s body rather she felt like she was being pumped up with more energy than her body had ever held or could take.
Their eyes shone even brighter and with that, the pungent smell faded away and was replaced fully with the woodsy scent.
Anna could picture herself so vividly running in the woods but not as a human but as a wolf, she looked down to see pure white fur covering her paws, a red glow settling over them...Her eyes.
The dirt was wet beneath her, the soil was rich...She could feel it. She wanted to roll in it. Anna had never felt so free in all her years.
There was this voice that came after.
It was small, a female voice but it was far from being meek.
“It’s good to see you, Anna.”
“Who are you?”
“You already know...I’ll see you soon…”
And just like that, Anna was out of the woods and back in the shrine, she had no paws, no fur…no freedom. Instead the shine in those white eyes had lessened and the finger under her chin was absent.
“Who...was that?”
“Rise, Annalisa Edgar...The Wolf Spirit that will save us all,”
Anna was left in a bewildered state, her heart pounded faster by the second and those white eyes only seemed to cause confusion.
What just happened?
And why was there so much excitement in their voices?
