Chapter 39: Alpha Daniel
Milly’s pov
I get up slowly, still sore everywhere. But I don’t care when I have my small boy against my chest. It was still amazing, having a tiny creature that was all yours. He yawns, and I follow. I have been in this bedroom for almost a week, maybe more… I don’t know to be honest. Time feels relevant, like I’m in a bubble with my handsome boyfriend… or yeah, I don’t know what to call him, except that he is my mate. I guess it doesn’t matter here; in the village, Ben is the second in command, only outranked by that scary Alpha that I’m starting to warm up to… told you, I don’t hate people.
“Ben, what is our relationship?” I look up to the first boy to have Bens’s role when he grows up. My heart clenches; it feels so unreal that this tiny boy will be such a big man one day, and I just hope I’m still around since I’m human and age faster.
He looks up from his phone, thrown off by my strange question, raising his dark eyebrows like he doesn’t even understand why I am even asking that right now; being here with our babies is the best thing to ever happen to me.
“We are mates, Milly, remember?” he nods at the mark on my neck. I smile, yeah… I got that part, I’m his mate, and he is mine, but what about the rest. I want to know more and don’t even know if he has the answers I’m looking for.
“I know… I just…. What are we, in human terms? Are we boyfriend and girlfriend or what?” I hush the small boy crying the slightest, afraid he will wake up the other two, sleeping in a crib next to me. I’m never more than two feet away, even when I sleep. Ben calls me being in beast mode, protecting my pups. Still, I think I’m just acting like every new mother, afraid to lose sight of her babies for more than one second.
He starts to laugh and raises his head completely and looks at me, making me lose my breath seeing his pure blue eyes starring at me like I’m cute and the most precious thing in the world at the same time, sitting here with a sulky tank top stained by …everything….
“No…. that’s not what we are, Milly. I only call you that because humans don’t get it, you are not my girlfriend. You are my everything, my second half.” I suck in my air again when he speaks like he wants me to get it, that he loves me more than anything on earth, not the Alpha or the pack, our babies, and me.
“So, I’m your wife then. Is that the right word?” I know I’m blushing again, but I don’t care when he gets a surprised face that he hid after two seconds and just smirks back at me as I gave him ideas that made my stomach flutter with butterfly; if he asked me to be his wife right now, I would say yes in a heartbeat.
“Yeah, I guess that’s the closest thing we can get to, still… it's not the same thing at all; mates don’t get divorced, Milly. I told you, it's you and me until the day we die.” He still smirked when I smiled more, he did say that, and I don’t regret a second of him marking me. The opposite, I wished he would have done it the second he saw me and knew I was his mate.
“You did tell me that baby….” I smile more when he chuckles again from my happy face. I am happy, happier than I have ever been in my life. I don’t even care about anything else right now; I just want to be here with him and are babies, that are my everything.
We just stay quiet and smile at the other one, he is still sitting in the armchair by the door, and I feel that he is guarding the babies and me. I understand so much more since he marked me, awakening a part of me that I never even knew I had before I met him.
He is shirtless and has been this whole time, making me hot, even if my focus is my babies. I can’t help staring at him when he isn’t looking my way, following those dark curves on his body, black ink over all those muscles that could knock any woman out in the world. He was mine, still unbelievable.
“Milly, stop that, or I’m going to come over and fuck you right now….” He doesn’t even look at me when I gulp hard from his raw words; that’s all I ever wanted. He was close to me, feeling my body with his hands, just like he did that night I got pregnant. I wanted him so bad, even if I just gave birth a week ago, and I was slightly ashamed of how fast I was getting turned on by him.
“It’s too soon. I’m sorry, Milly, I don’t want to hurt you….” I just look down again, hearing his voice, feeling even worse, getting rejected by the sadness in his voice. I guess he was right, I still sucked. We hadn’t done anything since that first time, which wasn’t enough. He was my mate, and I wanted to sleep with him again, even if I had babies.
He must have felt me getting sad because suddenly he got up, went over to the bed, sat next to me, and then put his arm around me, just like that, and I held my breath.
I know we are mates, and he has been with me this whole time, seen me give birth, but I still don’t believe it, the human side of me, that he can just do that, come over and hold me like I’m his, amazing.
“Believe me, there is nothing I would rather do than just tear off that top of yours and slam you to the bed, Milly, but I can’t, and not when our pups are in the room. I can’t do that, and I know that you would never be able to concentrate on what I was doing to you….” he smirks again, rats. He was right; I hated it.
I would never be able to keep my eyes away from my beautiful children, not even for the handsome man that gave them to me.
I look down at the boy again and smile for what time in a row I don’t know, he is perfect, absolute perfection, and he was mine and Ben's.
“We should name them, shouldn’t we?” I look up at him again when he just nods, and I know that he will let me choose. I don’t even have to ask that in how he looks at me and smiles down at the first boy again.
“You carried them. You gave them life; it's your choice Milly, not mine.” He suddenly looks so serious when I raise my eyebrows at him, looking like it is something I’m supposed to know when I don’t.
“But it’s your babies as well, Benjamin?” I use my soft voice again. I know he really listens to me when I use it, I’m not stupid, and neither is he when he breaks the small frown with a bit grin on my face. He knows that I know, and he is amused by it.
“I know that sweetheart, but this is my custom; the female decides the name. It's usually just her parents' name or something like that, but it’s important, and you’re right.” He smiles more when I’m more confused, my right? That was weird and strange, unlike where I was from, where you just found the cutest name and gave it to your baby.
“I don’t want my parents’ names…. I don’t know them… they don’t even know about me being pregnant or having kids Ben….” I look down at the boy again. He deserves more than just getting my father’s name, which isn’t my real father, for the record.
“Well, that’s all up to you, sweetheart, and then, I don’t get the complains when they are older and want another one….” He smiles more, and I roll my eyes; I guess that was true, but it felt wrong to just give all the responsibility to me.
I stared down at his small face again. My heart is filling up with love from the weight of his body in my arms, and not just him, but my other ones too that still are sleeping next to me; when I look up at Ben again, he still it is smiling at me, he wants to make me happy, and this is his way of doing that I understand.
“I never thought that I would have kids so soon, Ben. I mean, I was a virgin when I met you.” He just looks like he wants to say that he is sorry, but that’s not what I want to hear, and he stops before even opening his mouth; perks of being mates. I guess I understood the other one faster than I should have if he was human like me.
“What about your parents?” he stops smiling for three seconds. He looked uncomfortable, not expecting me to ask about his family.
“My mom’s name is Heloise, and my dad was named Arlo….” The small stab of pain in my heart tells me that it's not what he likes to talk about, and I just nod; fine, but those were great names, better than my parents anyway.
“I like that name, Arlo….” I looked down again, and he was even more confused when I ignored him. I didn’t see why our son couldn’t have that name, and I liked it already.
“Arlo, Kai, Heloise.” I smiled more when he let me go and stared at our son, the first one with his father’s name. I felt even more sorrow and confusion but also pride and love toward the small boy that was ours.
“I keep telling you, Milly, you are more beast than human. I love that you just follow your instincts and don’t second guess them; that’s so fucking hot and proves that you are my mate more than anything else, my beta female.” He sounds so sure that I just huff and get up and lie down on the sleeping boy next to his siblings. I’m just me and no one else.
“Following a leader that is a cold-blooded killer and his mate that wants my pups!” I growl at the end. My human side has no aggression against the Luna, but my beast does, and I trust her. She can’t be wrong since she is a part of me and only wants what’s best for her offspring.
He gets tense, and I sigh; he knows I’m right. She is too invested in my pups, mine and not hers. I don’t even care that she is the Luna of this strange place, she is weird, and that is that!
My arms are crossed, and it feels weird not being pregnant. My slim figure is back, sure not like I looked before, but still, being able to move again was nice; when I caught Ben staring at me like he was more interested in my boobs, then in my opinion, I smirked, so I wasn’t the only one that was hot for more then.
“I know she is, and I don’t know why. That’s why you need to keep that shit to yourself, Milly. Don’t say a fucking word about Allison to other people. Daniel is not known to be a kind man or even a good guy.” He looks scary again, and I know he really means it; I can feel it. Ben is not making this up; that man was dangerous.
“If that’s the case, we should leave.” I stare at him, my eyes are black, and he stares back like he can’t believe I just said that I was the second-in-command female of his pack, wanting to go, abandoning everyone and the crazy couple running this show.
“I can’t just leave Milly. I have been. Daniels beta since I was fucking born. Do you get that? This isn’t some employment I just can let myself go from. I have a responsibility, to my Alpha, to this pack!” he growls back. If I wasn’t his mate, I would have been scared of the big guy with dark tattoos and even darker hair over his black eyes. Still, I’m not. I am his, and he wanted me to get in contact with my beast, and she is not happy being here!
“I get that. I feel the same way. I do, I want to be loyal, but I can’t, not when that crazy woman wants my pups. She does. I know she does!” I beg him to understand I really don’t trust the Luna since he marked me, I know things, I feel them, and I don’t even know how or why, but I’m trusting my own gut like I always have.
He just makes a bigger growl, and I growl back when the pups start to cry, and I hush them back, stroking them gently over their faces when they snuggle back together, and I lift my head back, staring up at him. He knows I’m right, and he hates it.
“I don’t know where to go, Milly….” He looks lost when I feel the same way for a few seconds before shaking it off. I’m not him, I haven’t spent my life here, and I know we can make it alone. He just needs to get that inside his head.
“I don’t know, but anything is better than staying here.” I use my soft voice again, and his eyes go soft too; in one second when he comes up to me and kisses hard and long, making me lose my breath when he finally lets me go and smiles at me, God, he has the sweetest smile I have ever seen, too bad he doesn’t show it that often.
“You are right, Milly, I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I follow you anywhere, sweetheart.” I know he will, and I want to get out of here, like right now, this second if I could, but even I know that is not that simple. He said that he was going to leave, and the Alpha got so mad that it was hard to even describe a person like me who didn’t hate people, not like he and his mate did.
“Let’s just take it slowly, Milly, I don’t even know where to start or where we end up, but I promise you, on my life, that I am getting you out of here, you and the pups.” He looks down at the crib, and my heart pounds faster. He was a great man, the best one there ever was, even if he was a brooding mess.
"I believe you, Benjamin." I smiled again. He was the best mate ever.
