Chapter 25: Alpha Daniel
Millys pov
I’ve been trying to get a hold of Ben, but for some reason, he didn’t answer, driving me crazy, he had told me about everything about mates, about him being a beast, and I accepted everything.
Sure, I was shocked to find out he was a beast. I mean, a real beast like that could turn into a wolf! Still, for some reason, I was okay with it, like I don’t know, that was just a part of him, and I wanted everything with him.
And I had been patient; believe me, I wasn’t like I was on his case about not meeting up with me every day, but the last week had just been some texts and nothing more, I was dying over here, and he just seemed to be able to let me go for the hell of it.
I was still staring at the damn stick with two blue stripes, don’t ask me who the hell It happened because I honestly didn’t know, I was feeling a bit sick, and my period was late. Still, I wasn’t too worried, seeing that I had taken that plan b pill the first and, honestly, so far, the only time I had sex with him.
But there it was, right in my hand as I walked around my tiny apartment, pacing back and forth. My first thought was that I was so happy, more than I could describe. I wanted to have my own family for as long as I can remember. I had already fallen in love with that big brooding man with one of the best smiles on earth. I loved to see him smile; it made my heart flutter and my steps seem lighter.
But he had been gone for almost three weeks now, and I was starting to get worried; maybe he already had a family? I mean, just because I was his mate didn’t eliminate the possibility of him being married or something like that?
He had never invited me over to his place. He was always here with me or at my work, and yes, I got my job back at the bar with Anne smiling like a cat that got the canary when she had talked to my …. Yeah, I didn’t even know that what was I to him? A hook-up? A side chick? Girlfriend? I didn’t even know where to start. All I knew was that I needed him even more right now.
I sighed and picked up my phone again and called him only to have no answer again; this was getting ridiculous, I had known about being pregnant for two days, and I didn’t want to text him that.” oh, I miss u and btw you’re going to be a father!”
No way! I was afraid that if he saw it that he would just stop answering, I needed to see his face when I told him, and I was sick of waiting for him to come around.
So, I made a decision.
I was standing outside the big mansion in the odd village. I had a hard time finding, to be honest, it was located further in the mountains, and with only woodland surrounding it, I guess it was easier for them this way, the wolfs, I mean… I stared at the mean-looking guard in front of the gate; if I were to find answers, this is where I should start.
“Hello, I’m looking for the Beta.” God, that sounded ridiculous saying out loud, but that’s what he told me what he was in this place, I almost laughed when I heard it making him look a bit annoyed, but the guard in front of me seemed to take a real close look at me before sneering right back like I was something he rather not deal with.
“Beta Ben is away right now with the Alpha pack business.” He had a gruff voice, just like Benjamin, but not the same tenderness and calmness. No, this guy right here was a brute.
“Oh…I really need to see him. Could you please tell me where he was going?” I had my softest voice, I didn’t want to seem rude, and the guy still had a frown on his face, but his eyes mellowed down a bit like he was trying to be nice but didn’t know how amazing.
“You can talk to the Luna or the Rema if they see you; otherwise, you better get back to where you came from, human.” He said human with a sneer, and I raised my eyebrows against my better judgment. So they didn’t like humans, got it.
He ignored me and just opened the gate. I walked in slowly, I didn’t know who he was talking about and what they could tell me, but dammit, I had to try.
This place was huge; as I walked up the marble steps and rang the doorbell, a girl whose eyes never met mine, even though I smiled at her, showed me inside. I followed her scurrying feet to a big room that was beautifully decorative. I had to almost rub my eyes at the luxury surrounding me while staring down the village down the valley when a soft voice made me break my trance.
I turned around to see a middle-aged woman; she looked beautiful and radiated warmth. I liked her immediately and smiled at her, not knowing who she was and how she knew Ben.
“Hello dear, I heard you were looking for my boy. May I ask why?” she had a slight hint of worry in her tone, and I realized that I hadn’t even told anyone my name or my business haunting down my mystery man.
“Oh, I’m so sorry, I’m Milly, Milly Reese, and yes, I’m looking for your son.” I assumed she was his mother, and I got nervous; I hoped she liked me, never ever meeting anyone’s parents because I was a shy person whom boys didn’t find attractive.
“Well, hello, Milly; I’m Rema Carla, and please take a seat.” She gestured to the couch behind me, and I nodded and sat down, sighing, not realizing just how tired my feet had been from riding a bus and walking the last part over to the village.
“I’m sorry, but what’s a Rema?” I was curious about everything that had to do with Ben, he was a mystery, to say the least, and I was already sick of being in the dark.
“That means I’m the mother of the Alpha, the old Luna, so to say.” She beamed at me, not having any problem telling me anything, and I already liked her more.
“you’re not Ben’s mother?” I sounded disappointed; I really liked her and hoped she was his mom; that would have made things so much easier for me.
“No, I’m Alpha Daniel's mother, but Benji is like my son. They grew up together.” I could tell she was so proud of him, which made me like her even more; gosh, I wished she had been his real mom.
She was just about to ask me something again when a girl suddenly appeared in the doorway, she was shorter than me, had beautiful red hair and was one of the prettiest girls I had ever seen staring at me with her silver eyes, watching me like she was trying to figure out who I was, and why I was here.
She suddenly shifted her gaze to the roof, right above my head. A small light appeared in her eyes like she had awoken from a deep slumber she was in when her eyes followed something and stopped when it landed right in my own eyes.
Oh crap, please don’t tell me that she was his wife and I just barged my way into their home.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know, okay, he never told me anything, and I don’t want to ruin your marriage. I was already up when the girl looked at me confused, not saying one word when anger shot up in her eyes. The Rema was on her feet by now, making her way to the angry woman, who I assumed was Ben’s wife. She must be. That’s why he never let me come over. He was ashamed of me. I just understood that it was a mistake making my way over here!
She snapped her head at Rema, and she suddenly fell to the floor, like someone had knocked her out, making me shake from fear over what this girl, who obviously was something else, looked at me like she didn’t know if she wanted to kill me or not.
That freaked me out, I could take that I had been fooled by a beast man that just used me, but I didn’t want to die, and I was so scared that she would hurt my baby.
“Please…. Please don’t hurt me, I’m pregnant….” My voice was a plea, and her eyes flickered for a second like she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with me. She didn’t want to hurt me. Still, she was hurt far too much for me to do anything. I just wanted to get out and never come back.
I would raise my baby alone, and Ben, that cheating bastard should take care of his own mess he made!
“I know.” She just said that, and I gasped at her certainty like she really did know. I looked down at my figure, it wasn’t even showing yet, and she just knew? I know I should have been scared again, but this time, her voice was softer, more scared than angry, and she was scared for my sake.
“I’ll go away, you don’t have to tell him, I’ll leave and never come back, you and him… I’m not going to get between you. I just wanted to know….” The hurt in my voice must have been obvious cause she seemed taken aback by my grief of giving up my mate. Oh shit… I think that I loved him. I loved that piece of trash that had made its way into my heart and stolen everything from me.
“He is not my husband. I assume you’re talking about Ben?” her voice seemed relaxed all of a sudden, like all the anger she had felt toward me was gone, and I nodded, still scared of what she was capable of.
She walked right over the Rema, not seeming to care that she was knocked out cold, and smiled when she was by my side, she was shorter. I gasped when she put her hand on my stomach; the sizzling feeling that made my skin burn made me fall over on my butt, and I looked at her eyes which were glowing like she had been waiting on me.
“Three.” She said with a sincere smile and sat down next to me; when I gave him a confused look, she seemed happier, like all the gloominess from her aura was fading away.
“Three what?” I asked, uncertain of the answer she could give me. She turned her head and giggled almost like a child and placed he small hand on my flat stomach again.
“Three babies, of course.” She smiled like it was the most obvious thing in the world when my eyes stared at her sincere silver eyes. No way! No freaking way!
I started to laugh, and she followed. Her were lighter and less crazy than mine.
“How can you know that?” I wasn’t afraid anymore, just curious. She was something else, not a wolf, a seer, maybe? And who was she too, Ben?
“I know. I see their lives above your head. They are beautiful and strong in the life force, and they will give you so much happiness.” She looked up again and smiled, and I followed her eyes, but then again, I saw nothing, but I believed her and didn’t even know why.
“Three….” I giggled; this was amazing. I was going to have three babies with Ben…. Omg, a cold shower fell over me. What if he didn’t want this? What if he rejected me? Maybe he hated kids? What did I know about him more than being a wolf and ridiculously handsome?
“Can I sit here with you until he comes back? I like the lights. They make me feel less sad” She looked so scared I would say no to her that my heart was breaking. She was older than me, but right now, she felt like a small child not knowing what she was supposed to do anymore when I took my arm around her shoulders without even thinking about it and smiled warmly at her scared face.
“Absolutely; if my babies like you, then I like you.” She seemed shocked over my moment and a statement like she didn’t think I was for real, but I just smiled back at her. She was grieving, and I didn’t want to ask, but if she felt better being near me, I was okay with that.
There was a ruckus outside when two half-dressed guys barged in the door, both panting like they had been running for miles. I meet the eyes of pure blue, my mate staring at the scene of me holding the now sleeping redhead cozy up against my shoulder when I stroked her hair; she was whimpering. She seemed to get calmer by it.
I smiled when I saw him, he was still as handsome as ever, and both men were still in shock over what was happening.
“Allie….is she okay?” I recognized the other man, the rude one from the bar, and I nodded. His eyes were sad too like this whole house was just a place of sorrow when I arrived here.
He walked up first, and gentle, like she was made from porcelain, took her up in his arms bridal style before giving me a thankful look and walking away with the sleeping beauty in his arms.
Ben was still standing there like he couldn’t believe I was there, and I started to get mad again. Why the hell had he been avoiding me?!
“You and I, we are going to talk.” I crossed my arms and nodded to the armchair in front of the coffee table. He just walked over and sat his ass down like a good puppy looking at me, ashamed knowing he had avoided me.
“Milly, I’m sorry I’ve been busy; I should have called you, but….” I didn't want more bullshit; I just wanted answers about us and what would happen.
“I’m going to give you two options, Benjamin; either you let me in and mark me, or the babies and I will go away, and you can go back to living your sulky life all alone.”
I stared at the big man fearless, he looked so mean and bad with all the scars and tattoos, but right now, he just looked like I’d told him I was an alien and that I was going to mars.
I looked at him for a few minutes before sighting him and got up; I guess I got my answer from his nonresponsive way of handling this, feeling tears running hot down my cheeks, bastard.
“Well, goodbye then; I hope you find a better mate than me, a skinny human girl.” I started to take the first step when he suddenly shot up from the chair, like he was on fire, grabbing hold of my shoulders and staring right into my own with his pure blue eyes still in shock.
“Milly, are you fucking pregnant?!?” he seemed to be mind blown like he couldn’t even imagine something like this ever happening to him.
“Yes, and according to sleeping beauty, it's three babies.” I smacked him with my words, and he took a stumble back, his heavy with leaning on to me for a few seconds before shaking his head like he was still trying to wrap his head around this.
“Three pups…oh goddess, three pups!” he finally looked at me again from staring at the floor, and I felt a wave of relief that fell over me. He looked happy, and he really did.
“I’m not having puppies, Ben.” I make a face at him when he starts to laugh, pulls me into his arms, and squeeze me almost too tight, making me squeal out of being suffocated before he lets go, looking like a fool smiling from ear to ear.
“No, I’m sorry, sweetheart, but you’re having pups, my pups.” He stared into my eyes with those pure blue eyes and kept smiling, making me forgive him instant for being away, for not letting me know what was happening; God, I was such a sucker for this guy.
He picked me up, and I giggled when we were spinning me around and laughing like we were crazy, and maybe that's okay because I want to be with him, I really do.
“Stay with me, Milly; I don’t want to worry about you being out there all alone, working at the bar, and living all alone when you are having my kids.” He has stopped spinning, looking all business from nowhere, and I just observe him. Is he being serious? I would live here, with wolves, being the only human in this place; I wasn’t stupid just because I was young, and he had told me enough to get the bigger picture.
“But I need to work. I mean, three babies are going to be super expensive!” I don’t know what I expected from him, but he just huffs like he’s not taking no for an answer, and I frown. What was he going to pay for everything all of a sudden?
“You don’t need to work, Milly, I have money, and I don’t want to have a fucking heart attack every time I’m out not being able to be by your side, sweetheart.” I’m frowning even more. I am so deep into him that I want to do all that, but it feels like the golden cage, somewhere I can’t have freedom even if I want to.
“I’ll think about it.” If this weren’t a serious moment, I would have laughed in his face, jaw-dropping like he wasn’t expecting me to fight back about this.
“you’ll…. Think... about it?” he is saying every word over pronounced like I’m joking, and he's not getting it.
“Yeah, Benjamin, that’s what I said, that I'll think about it.” I smile, teasing him, not being able to resist when he looks adorable at my way of shutting his bullshit down.
“Milly, I said I wanted you to reject me and have your own life so young, but this changes everything. I know you’re not getting an abortion, even if I had thrown you out of here to fend for yourself, so please, listen to me when I tell you it’s not safe out there for you; pretty soon, every beast out there will be able to smell you, know that you are expecting pups and not ordinary babies.”
He frowns, and I sigh. He was probably telling the truth; I just didn’t like this place; it was full of bad energy, and I could feel it.
“I’m not a beast, Benjamin, and they don’t like humans at this place. I can feel it.” I’m looking a bit scared when he pulls me in again to his chest, and I hug him right back, looking worried without being able to stop it. I’m caught between two worlds, not belonging fully to either.
“No, you’re not a wolf, sweetheart, but you are my mate, and when I mark you, the beta female of this pack, they will respect you. They have to.” I don’t like the sound of that, forcing the wolfs like me to respect me, but my eyes sparkled when he said he marked me; ever since he told me about that part, I wanted to go through with it.
“You will mark me, for real?” I’m giggling like a love-struck teenager, but I don’t care. I want that; I want everything with him, now and forever.
“Yes, I will, sweetheart; I’m yours just as much as you are mine...” Damn, he always knows how to say things that make my heart beat faster.
“Fine, mark me, and I will move over here, just like you want me to, Benjamin.” I say, daring him. I want to know just how much bluffing and real hard facts from him when I smile cunning at his surprised face again.
“Now?” he’s not frowning, he just looks confused, like he doesn’t know if he can do that to me right now, but I don’t care. I’m not waiting anymore.
“Yes, now,” I smile bigger when I turn around slowly, ensuring he catches me even if he doesn’t have the super speed to his abilities.
He doesn’t hesitate to catch my waist, pulling me in again, and I smile, the tingles making me shiver. Yes, I can feel them even more now, like they have expanded from nothing too small sizzling shocks every time he touches me.
“This is not something I can take back, Milly. Do you understand that? Once done, it's done, and there is none to talk to or appease. It’s just you and me forever, as long as we both shall live.”
I just start to laugh at him. Why does he say that like it’s a bad thing when it sounds like everything I’m dreaming of?
“I want this, us, you and me and the babies to be a family, a real one.” I make my statement loud and clear.
His eyes sparkle at my words; blackness swirls around his mysterious eyes. God, they are beautiful, and I can just drown in them.
“Okay, ill mark you, and then you move here, and we raise our pups together like a family.” My heart is flipping from his words, and I can’t believe just how lucky I am to meet him, that I am that beautiful man’s mate.
“But first, I need to tell you about Candi and why I wanted you to find someone else….” I get a heavy lump in my throat. Who the frick is Candi, and why do his eyes hurt when he talks about her?
“Candi?” I want to snort because it sounds ridiculous, but nothing comes out, just a small whimper showing him how to hurt I am for saying another girl’s name with real feelings.
“She was my first mate Milly…... I’m older than I look like….” I already knew that there was no way a guy in his early twenties was having that much pain and suffering in his eyes in his way, and I met too many of the young guns to know that.
“Your first mate?” I don’t even care that he’s older, he could tell me he is a hundred, and I wouldn’t care. I still want him, but another mate…. That makes my heart crackle, especially when he has love in his eyes for a girl I never meet.
“Yeah, she was…. She was Daniels’s sister, and we grew up together….” He goes quiet, like it's too hard for him to speak of her. I’m feeling like second-rated trash all of a sudden, a runner-upper that only was the consolation prize; congratulations Milly, he didn’t want you to begin with.
A tear escapes my eye with me being able to stop it, and he sees it. No, he catches it with his hand, gently stroking it away from my cheek, having eyes full of regret all of a sudden.
“So, you never wanted me? You would never have looked my way if she was still around?” I don’t even know why I’m asking these questions when I’m only hurting myself more for every answer he gives me. God have mercy on me.
“she’s not around. She died, and that’s the only way you can get a bond to break after marking someone Milly, death.” His voice is so dark and deep that it’s making me goosebumps, not in a good way.
I drag my nails across the lines of his chest, over the fabric closing my eyes. What the hell I’m doing here when he tells me he had another mate, another perfect fit, and I wasn’t me.
“Oh.” I’m not getting one word out more than that right now. He had loved another, just like he loved me and adored me.
“I’m sorry, Milly, I know it's not fair, it really isn’t, and trust me, none is more surprised than me that I got a second chance, and I’m so sorry that you got stuck with me, not even on his first mate….” He goes all quiet, and so do I.
I can’t think of anything to say back to him. He is not denying that he wouldn’t want me if it wasn’t for me being his mate and that if his first one was alive, I never would have gotten a second glance, heck, not even a first one.
I take a step back, away from his arms, and keep staring at the floor, freaking hell, it hurts, everything in me feels like it's being torn apart, and I can’t stop my tears from spilling down on the floor even if I wanted to.
My blond hair shields me from his gaze, I always have it up, but I notice he likes it when I have it down, and I want to make him happy. I wipe away my snot with my arm and look up again at his face. He is also hurting, showing a full display of confusion and distaste mixed with sorrow.
“I … have to go…” I can’t take this anymore, and I want to leave, getting some space from the big brooding guy that makes me feel like the only girl in the world when he just told me that I’m not.
“Milly, wait.” I’m already on my first steps when a deep dark voice gives me hope, and it makes me feel even more stupid when I actually believe that he wants me to stay when I stop instantly at his words.
“I’ll get someone to take you home; it's too dangerous for you to go along with the rogues.” I don’t answer, I don’t even turn around to answer him, I just…. Say nothing and keep walking out of the room, leaving a big, scary man with black swirling tattoos over him staring at my back, burning holes into my skin, breaking my heart all over again.
