Chapter 16: Alpha Daniel
Allison’s pov
I was about to pack my shit when I realized I didn’t even have anything. I owned nothing. Not even the clothes on my back were mine. I needed to get away from here, from everyone… from him…
My heart was pounding as I walked down the big hallway, focusing on the great stairwell leading down to the lower part of the three-story mansion when I heard someone running after me.
I know it was stupid, but my first thought was that he was going after me, telling me not to leave, pleading with me to be with him.
My smile that I didn’t know that I had died the seconds I saw the Beta buy, or Ben as his name was, not that anyone had told me anything. I just picked it up, just like when I was an Omega… I snorted at myself. Listen to me, talking like I was someone high and mighty. I still was an Omega; nothing could change that, not even being the Alpha's mate.
“Luna.” His tone was angry like he was holding back from lashing at me. I snorted at his way of being totally disrespectful and arrogant, hidden behind my supposed title.
“Beta.” I used an arrogant voice back, making his eyes swirl with blackness. Well, at least he wasn’t as stupid as he looked.
We didn’t say anything, and I wasn’t going to talk first. He was the one who chased me down, probably being a good doggy to his master. I snorted again.
“I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t like you, and it’s not because you’re an Omega; you’re a bitch toying with my best friend’s heart.” He had his arms crossed over his huge bulky chest, the scars over his body and face giving him an even grimmer look. He was a warrior, no doubt about it. He was proud of every scar he had. I could tell by the boldness in those harsh eyes that didn’t seem to have a soft spot anywhere.
I wanted to defend myself. He had seen what had happened inside the office, and I wanted to snap back at him for being an asshole to me. Still, I was already broken, my defenses torn down, and I felt naked at the hard stare I received from the giant in front of me.
“Fuck you!” I swallowed the bile in my throat. I wasn’t scared of him; I wasn’t afraid of anyone these days. I just wanted to be left alone. Was that too much to fucking ask?!
“Oh, cry me a river, sweetheart. I’m not the Alpha. I don’t care if you’re hurt, so you had a shitty life. Get in fucking line...” He had a cold smile now, making me almost want to look away from that icy stare that tried to hurt me, but my pride didn’t let me. He was an asshole, and he hated me, just like everyone else, just one more reason why I needed to get the fuck away from these high-ranking bastards.
“Yeah, I bet all that pampering must have been soo hard for you guys.” I sneered, sizing him up and down, I was smaller, and he caught a glimpse of real laughter for a few seconds before getting back the full scowl he was giving me.
“You think being a higher rank is easy? His lips curved to a small, condescending smile showing exactly how stupid he thought I was for thinking that.
“Yes,” I said without hesitating; I’ve seen all my life the pampered bastards of the higher ranks walking past like I was nothing, not even worthy of a second look or pity.
“Well then… you got nothing to worry about then, Luna…” he said my supposed title again, mocking. I just narrowed my eyes at his arrogance. He was indeed Daniel’s Beta.
He turned around and left just as fast as he had to walk up to me. Damn, he was fast for a big guy.
I stared after him before I realized that people were staring at me. I avoided their eyes. I didn’t know they knew who I was since I had just walked inside her with the freaking Alpha. I bet nobody remembered the Omega that had made her escape just two weeks ago.
I started to walk again, more hesitant this time. I didn’t know what to do anymore… I had walked a good ten minutes before coming down to the Omega Quarters. I was not even aware I had headed over here before my eyes snapped at the worn-out building that was my home.
I walked in the door and down toward the basement. Luckily no one was there, thanks to the second shift that just had started. Yeah, I still knew the schedule by heart; that happens when you have done the same thing your whole life.
It smelled like shit here, and I nearly choked, not being used to it anymore. The foul stench of the mold that crept in every corner of the damp basement, how I even was alive, was a miracle!?
I crossed my arms, looking around the room, eyebrows raised, this was my home for so long, but now I felt like the prison it really was.
I had been submissive and content for so long with absolutely nothing, but this didn’t do it for me anymore. I needed more… of everything.
I sighed and started walking up the stairs again, unwilling to stay, and walked outside the house. I realized that the Omega quarters looked like Alpha Ricks town did. I mean, I didn’t know more than that he did save me from being raped by his men, but what did I know about him? He clearly didn’t seem to care enough about his town to have some better living standards, unlike Dan…. I closed my eyes, leaning against one of the apple trees in the orchard, fuck I had been close to giving right several times when he looked at me and made that face that I knew he was starring at my lips, oh goddess I had wanted him so bad, more than anything ever… is sighted again, I was still in love with him, I wasn’t that stupid that I didn’t realize it…but could I forgive him and trust that he didn’t hurt me again?
I had to make a choice, and I couldn’t even reject him.
I scoffed, opening my eyes to the stares of the Omega that had started to recognize me but wouldn’t dare approach me, afraid of getting the same punishment as me when they found out I had run off.
I smiled at them. They weren’t bad guys, just submissive and afraid, nothing like me. I don’t even know what the hell I was, if I was being honest.
“Omega!” I whipped my head to the side, some guards were approaching, and I frowned at the two bigger guys approaching me. They weren’t Daniels’s size and weren’t even as big as the Gamma, but they were still huge compared to me.
They had a scowl on their faces walking at a faster pace at me when I realized that they probably thought I had skipped the mandatory secondary shift, great just my luck!
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing, slacking off? Who the hell gave you permission to have a fucking break?!” I shouldn’t have smiled, mocking their aggression, but I couldn’t help it. The surge of power that blasted through my veins from being the Alpha's mate was making me cocky, and let’s face it, this was who I was supposed to be, the real me.
“The alpha, he gave me permission to slack off.” I said it taunting them, stunned them for a few seconds, confusion clear on their faces before growing angrier at me. I should have been prepared for it, but my newfound freedom had made me careless. I touched the spot where the bruise was going to be on my cheek, the taste of iron in my mouth as it had hit me harder than was fucking necessary for someone my size.
“Well, you guys will be in soo much trouble...” I sang the words, not caring that they would probably hurt me more, noting that I wasn’t used to them.
“The only ones in trouble here bitch, are you.” One of them grunted and had a wicked smile on his handsome face. I sneered back at them; see? I was talking about this: higher ranks had power over the defenseless, and they used it on us without mercy. My mate, non the better.
A hard kick to my ribs made me whimper. I rolled over, trying to protect myself when the two badasses that they were just kept kicking me like the dogs they thought I was; it wasn’t until I was coughing blood that I seemed to let out and was panting from giving me everything they had in those fucking kicks!
“What the fuck is going on over here!” a young voice yelled, and both guys snapped their heads at someone. I was trying to see him, but I had blood in my eyes flowing down from the huge gash across my face blinding me from seeing the person coming to my aid.
“Just putting this bitch back in her place Gamma, we caught her trying to sneak off from her shift, and she had the fucking nerve to say that the alpha had let her do it.” One of the fuckers answered, and I was wheezing, trying to breathe before small silent laughter filled me. They really did a good job beating the shit out of me.
“Gamma….” I mumbled the word, my lips bleeding, and my eyelids grew heavier like I was suddenly getting sleepy.
The big youngling outlined in my eyes, only seeing shapes and shadows, bent down, and I swore that I saw him considering letting me die. Just for a brief second, I could feel it before he lashed out against the guards, that was still cursing and spitting at my mangled body.
“She is the Luna.” He just said that like he didn’t believe it either, my heart dropped, and I snapped my eyes open, staring into the wondering hazel eyes, still not giving me anything but coldness on his face.
“What the fuck did you just say?!” one of them started laughing, mocking his words, thinking it was a joke like I couldn't be the Alpha's mate.
“Nah, it's true. I saw it with my own eyes. She is the Alpha's mate; funny how a fragile creature like her can be mated to one of the four big.” I couldn’t fucking believe it. He was selling me out, no matter what he thought of me, I was still the Luna of this pack, and he should be protecting me, not making jokes with the people who assaulted me.
“Oh fuck! Hey man, we didn’t know. She smells like an Omega, being a bitch, and didn’t know when to shut her mouth.” Fear was clinging to the air like a stench when the young Gamma still was squatting beside me with his hands clasped together like he was looking at something that was just trash in his eyes.
“Yeah, she does seem to have that talent, being able to piss just anybody off, even the Alpha.” He started to rise again when a chuckle left the worried guards. They were relieved that maybe I wasn’t as precious to the Alpha as they had thought. Maybe he didn’t care about them beating the crap out of me.
“He should have just fucked that blonde. She was hot, not like this excuse for a wolf.” Anger rose within me, but it wasn’t my anger I was feeling almost making me boil over; it was the Gamma, a young boy with deadly skills and one of the best pack fighters whose eyes were pitch black that rifted to the wind, changing the power in a heartbeat for the two guys in front of us.
Before I had even seen what happened, the two bodies fell with a thump on the ground, leaving it shaking when I saw that the heads were torn off in a matter of seconds, the smell of iron in the air being even more intense.
“This is the only time I’m helping you, Luna, make no mistake, your mate tried to kill mine, and if I wasn’t such a generous soul, I would have turned around when I saw these dogs beating the shit out of you.” I scoffed, but it only made me spit out more blood, generous? Yeah, that was one way of looking at it.
“you’re still breathing, aren’t you?” he mocked my own words when I hissed at the pain from my stomach, I don’t know how many ribs they had broken, but I hurt like a motherfucker.
“you fucker…” I cursed with my hoarse voice, which sounded like I could barely speak, still trying to catch my breath from the blood I was coughing up.
“An eye for an eye Luna.” He said the last cheesy sentence and started to walk away, leaving me to bleed out. I closed my eyes, and I was official.
I hated this pack.
I don’t know how long I was lying in the dirt. People saw me, they did, but nobody was brave enough to go up and help me, like I didn’t exist when they walked past me, heads hanging low of shame or disgust, depending on who they were.
It was getting darker and colder when my body started to shiver. I wished I had died over in the south; a big part of me was pissed from dying in the fucking Omega quarter, like a fucking curse I couldn’t take away. I was ashamed if I was being honest.
I should have let Daniel mark me when this all shit was starting, Sabrina would have found her mate faster, and this war could have been avoided, yeap, all my fault.
I felt sort for myself when I finally had enough strength to crawl back up. I was wobbling a little, but I was standing when I took the first steps back to the mansion, looking up at it being illuminated with lights in the dark; it looked beautiful; too bad that it only had monsters inside it.
I wiped away the one lonely tear that pushed through. I wouldn’t cry, and I never cried, not for myself or anyone else. I was stronger than that.
My legs were hurting with each step I took, and I was nauseous from the strong headache that made me dizzy. The few people outside walked over to the other side, afraid of my horrible appearance. Everything was swollen or bruised, nicely matching the dried blood covering my torn body.
I growled at the guard standing in front of the mansion. I was so sick and tired of this already. I was back for one fucking day, and already my mate’s generals had shown their true colors, that they were monsters, just like him, and felt no mercy for me and my pain.
The Delta must have been one of the few that actually seen me, knew who I was, beard his neck in submission when I ignored him and just opened the front door and walked inside the white mansion that I was sticking out in like a sore thumb, grimy and bloody, a pathetic Omega not knowing her place in the hierarchy.
The dining room was filled with chatter, and I was going straight to my room, but I wanted to see him if he even cared that I had been almost killed. I gritted my teeth as I dragged my sorry ass over to the big dining hall and the chatter that had been relaxed and buzzing; even Daniel was smiling when I appeared, and a look of panic struck me hard, his panic.
“Allison, what the fuck happened to you?!” He sounded almost accusing, like it was my fault that I got attacked. Maybe it was?! I didn’t care anymore, and I would leave this place forever this time.
I didn’t answer because my eyes caught the Gammas. He was clutching the hand of his mate. She looked fantastic, her eyes almost popping out of her socket at the sight of me. Her fear filled me with rage. She felt horror looking at me when her mate was the one who left me to die.
“Nothing happened, noting I’m not used to.” I forced a smile on my face, but I bet every one of them saw through me. My lips trembling from the anger in me, I limb over to one of the chairs, holding me up, and ignored Daniel's rage that was flaming all over the space. He wanted blood, anyone’s blood having his eyes pitch black, already wanting to shift and rip off the heads of the people responsible; too bad they were already dead.
Daniel finally seemed to snap out of his worst anger when he tried to go to me, and I stopped him with my hand holding it up. I didn’t want his comfort or love. He should have felt my pain, he should have felt every damn punch I got, and he did nothing like the monster he was.
He stopped right away, his eyes being emerald green again, staring at me. I hurt like fuck. I snickered inside you and me both, mate.
“I just wanted to say that you are all monsters, and I’m leaving this fucking nightmare place, don’t come after me this time.” I finally stared at my mate, right in his eyes that were defeated, dead, and hurting, like I had sucked every part of his dry, leaving him a husk.
Remember when I said I wasn’t going to cry? This was when I was struggling to keep that promise as I turned around, filled to the brink of endless darkness that made my bottom lips quiver like a small child. I’ve had to be stronger than this. I couldn’t live in this place filled with people who hurt me, hated me, and treated me like shit.
I deserved better.
“Why?” it was just a whisper, but the whole room heard it.
I don’t know why but his simple question triggered everything in me when I turned around, smirking at his stupidity, was he really the Alpha of this pack? Since he was clueless about his closest guys being fucking dicks.
“Why?! What the fuck do you mean with why!?” I was already screaming, and the Beta and Gamma both looked nervous, afraid I was about to rat them out. I growled at them, pathetic.
.
“YES WHY!? WHY ARE YOU FUCKING LEAVING ME AGAIN!?” he was already losing it, unable to handle the pain of me leaving. I knew the second he looked at me I should have just left without telling him.
“YOU TRIED TO KILL ME! ISENT THAT ENOUGH!?” I raised my hand to the big scar on my neck and throat. He thought that if he was just nice enough, that would change? That was never going to happen, ever.
The Gamma got a pang of guilt in his eyes, and Sabrina was covering like a chihuahua under his embrace. Aw, that must be nice, being protected by a toy mate.
I let the last sentence slip into the mind link, the main channel I’ve been able to tap in on since he marked me. I just didn’t give enough shit to use it before.
“Who did this to you!?” Daniel completely ignored what I had said about him trying to kill me, asshole. I just shrugged. I wasn’t going to rat out that piece of shit Gamma that starred down the table, like looking at me suddenly was too hard to do.
“Luna, who did this? If you can’t tell him, tell me.” The betas voice was calm and calculating, I just smirked at him, and here I thought he didn’t care about me?
“No!” I said it out loud. I wasn’t going to cry and beg them to help me; if they hated me before, they could keep doing just that, and I was still going to leave.
Daniel actually roared now, over the whole dam mansion, over the whole damn pack land from the strength of it. I should have been scared, I really should, but my heart was broken, and the last flame inside me of me loving him was nearly going to get snuffed out.
“Goodbye.”
I ignored the burning pain in my chest that wasn’t from my body being beaten to a pulp; it was the mate bond still holding me prisoner to him, not letting me go.
I felt a strong hand that made me stumble. Still, I caught myself in the muscular arms, making me winch in pain, my body betraying me just how much this was breaking my heart again, leaving him.
“Let go of me, Daniel….” My voice was weaker than I had intended when I felt his hard chest rumble from the chuckle. I didn’t like the sound when I finally lifted my eyes and saw that his eyes were full-on black again. Oh shit.
I gulped when his hand gently caressed my swollen face with his fingertips leaving traces of tingles on my skin, making it harder for me to breathe again, but for all the different reasons than before.
“Silly little mate, you thought that I was letting you go?” he cooed to me with that scary voice of his beast, making me purr and being fucking terrified at the same time.
He leaned over me more, whispering in my ear, making goosebumps all over my body.
“you’re not going anywhere.”
